Ancient ruins in Al-Ardiyat tell timeless tales
These include ibex carvings and inscriptions continuing into later centuries, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Abdullah Al-Ruzqi, a researcher of archaeology and history in the governorate, said the inscriptions in Al-Ardiyat fall into three categories: ibex drawings; Nabataean and Thamudic writings; and funerary inscriptions from the first Hijri century, such as the tombstone of Maryam bint Qays.
He also noted several other known and unknown inscriptions and etchings, calling for attention to and protection of these sites.
Al-Ruzqi pointed out that Al-Ardiyat is a testament to history, with numerous inscriptions adorning its mountains, the SPA reported.
He added that the governorate is known for the Thumaidah mine, a 50-meter-long tunnel in rocky mountains containing antimony kohl and lead deposits.
This mine is in a mountainous area stretching from Abyan to Mount Tharban along the western slopes reaching Qanuna Valley, and the eastern slopes extending to Yabah Valley.

Saudi students compete in tough nuclear science Olympiad round 2
RIYADH: A team of Saudi Arabia students have completed the challenging second round of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The students conducted theoretical and practical tests, each over five hours, the Saudi Press Agency reported recently. The event began on July 30 and ends on Aug. 6. These included an applied simulation which tested the analytical and creative skills of the students in the field of nuclear science, the SPA added. The team of four students are awaiting the results of their tests, which pitted them against 52 students from 13 countries. The Saudi students were selected for the competition after intensive training and qualification stages organized by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity. The selection was completed in partnership with the Ministry of Education, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy. This year's team are: Hassan Ali Al-Awad from Al-Ahsa, Azzam Khaled Al-Omari from Jeddah, Al-Baraa Saeed Awaji from Madinah, and Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al-Othman from Jubail. This is their second Olympiad, having won one silver and three bronze medals at the inaugural event last year. The International Nuclear Science Olympiad, which was set up by the International Atomic Energy Agency in 2024, is a global scientific platform. The event aims to promote the peaceful and safe use of nuclear technologies, and motivate young people to specialize and innovate in the field.

Saudi Arabia Secures 3 Awards at International Olympiad in Informatics 2025
The Saudi informatics team has secured a bronze medal and two certificates of appreciation at the 37th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2025), according to the Saudi Press Agency. Held in Sucre, Bolivia, from July 27 to August 3, the IOI 2025 brought together 334 students from 86 countries around the world. The Saudi team consisted of three students who previously obtained required training and supervision from the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. The Kingdom has been taking part in the International Olympiad in Informatics since 2019, earning a total of 11 awards, including seven bronze medals as well as four certificates of appreciation. This reflects the Kingdom's growing excellence in computer science and programming.
