Shura Council committee holds discussion on Oman's business environment

Muscat: The Economic and Financial Committee of the Shura Council hosted HH Dr Adham Turki Al Said, Chairman of the Economic Committee at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), and a number of specialists from the Chamber.
The meeting was part of the Committee's ongoing study of a proposal concerning the competitiveness and attractiveness of Oman's business environment, aimed at supporting economic development efforts and enhancing the investment climate in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.
The meeting took place during the Committee's 13th session of the second annual convening (2024–2025) of the Council's tenth term, chaired by Ahmed Said Al Sharqi, head of the Committee, with the attendance of other committee members.
Discussions were held on the readiness of Oman's business and investment environment, and the key factors affecting its competitiveness and attractiveness.
The Committee also reviewed OCCI's views on the Foreign Capital Investment Law (50/2019) post its -implementation, as well as the adequacy of current incentives and facilities provided to overcome obstacles facing investors.
The meeting explored the role of the Chamber in assessing Oman's business climate, highlighting recent studies and their findings on the competitiveness and appeal of Oman as an investment destination.
Key challenges were addressed, along with potential solutions and recommendations aimed at enhancing Oman's global business standing.
The members stressed the importance of improving the innovation and entrepreneurship environment by supporting start-ups and facilitating their expansion into international markets.
They also emphasized the need for effective international promotion of Oman's investment opportunities through organized marketing campaigns, and underlined the strategic importance of economic diversification, particularly by empowering sectors such as tourism and the digital economy.

Oman's address also outlined key achievements in the care and empowerment of persons with disabilities, including the draft law on the rights of persons with disabilities, which was formulated in accordance with the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Other milestones include the development of a comprehensive national guide for engineering standards and specifications for inclusive urban environments and accessible transportation, as well as the organization of the first National Forum for Persons with Disabilities in 2023, whose outcomes laid the groundwork for a dedicated lab to enhance services and programs for persons with disabilities. The Sultanate of Oman's emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about the rights of persons with disabilities as a shared responsibility, with active participation from persons with disabilities themselves. It also called for unified visions among all member states to achieve an accessible, barrier-free environment that fulfills their aspirations.

Tashkent - President Dr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan, received Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, in Tashkent today. Al Yousef conveyed to the Uzbek President the greetings and best wishes of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. He stressed the depth of fraternal relations binding the peoples of Oman and Uzbekistan. Al Yousef also congratulated the Uzbek President on the historic sporting accomplishment made by the Uzbekistan national football team that qualified to the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time. He described this achievement a source of pride, not only for Uzbekistan, but also for the whole Central Asian region. The minister pointed out that the Uzbek government's decision to grant Omani citizens a 30-day visa exemption constitutes a step forward in promoting tourism and enhancing cultural and commercial relations between the two countries. He pointed out that Oman Air intends to operate direct flights to Tashkent in a bid to consolidate direct communication between the two countries in the near future. At the conclusion of the meeting, Al Yousef affirmed the Sultanate of Oman's full commitment to boosting bilateral relations and developing partnership between Oman and Uzbekistan on the basis of mutual respect, shared prosperity and a unified future vision. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 5th session of the Omani-Uzbek Joint Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation, roundtable meetings with the Uzbek side and the 4th Tashkent International Investment Forum. The visit is aimed to enhance bilateral cooperation and explore joint investment opportunities in a number of vital sectors. The meeting was attended by Assayida Wafa Jabr Al Busaidi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Uzbekistan, and a number of officials from the two countries.
