Jose Riveiro reveals the real reason he left Orlando Pirates?

Earlier this year, Jose Riveiro dropped a bombshell when he announced that he would not extend his stay when his contract at Orlando Pirates expired.
At the time he made the announcement, the Buccaneers were well poised to win at least two trophies, but poor form saw the team finish with just the MTN8, which they won at the beginning of the season.
After losing the Nedbank Cup final on 10 May, Jose Riveiro asked the Pirates management to release him early as he had already signed with a new club. At the time, the Sea Robbers had nothing to play for with the league already out of reach.
The Spaniard won five trophies in three seasons and while most coaches would want to continue winning, Riveiro chose to leave. He did make a hint last year when he mentioned how far he was away from his family.
Having joined Al Ahly, the 49-year-old has revealed that his wife's dream is to live in Egypt as she adores the culture.
'I am married and have a 6-year-old daughter, and I'm very happy that she's part of my life,' he told Al Ahly TV.
'[I am] thrilled that she'll have the opportunity to come live in Egypt.
'My wife loves Egypt and adores Egyptian culture, and her father used to work in Egypt,' Riveiro concluded.
Jose Riveiro might have had success at Pirates, but time away from his family took a toll on him. Given Egypt is much closer to Spain, it makes sense why he decided to relocate and coach in North Africa. His wife's love for Egypt made his decision to leave Pirates muach easier.

Bafana B side overcome Zimbabwe to keep hope for semifinals of Cosafa Cup alive

Bafana Bafana 'B' team defeated their neighbours Zimbabwe 2-0 to register their first win of the 2025 Cosafa Cup under way in Bloemfontein. South Africa scored a goal in each half during the Group A's match at Free State Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Orlando Pirates star Kabelo Dlamini scored a penalty five minutes before the halftime break while SuperSport United's young defender Ime Okon found the back of the net through an impressive header on 78 minutes. Bafana needed to win the match to place themselves in a better position to proceed to the next round of the tournament. The Vela Khumalo-coached outfit started their participation this year with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Mozambique, who are top of the pool by four points after their second outing ended in a draw with Mauritius. Khumalo's men displayed a good performance and created tons of opportunities, which were either not used or well defended by their opponents. There were excellent performances from players such as Boitumelo Radiopane, Masindi Nemtajela, who is heavily linked with a move to Pirates, Man of the Match Kamogelo Sebelebele, Siphesihle Mkhize and Gape Moralo. Nemtajela won the penalty that saw the hosts score their first goal of the competition this year. The Marumo Gallants forward gave the Zimbabweans defenders a tough time and combined well with Radiopane. Okon's goal came from a well-taken free kick by Moralo. Bafana will hope to give another solid display when they face Mauritius in the last match of the group stages at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium in Bloemfontein at 3pm on Tuesday. Only the winners of the group will proceed to the semifinals.

Confirmed: Orlando Pirates to announce new player

Orlando Pirates fans have a new right-back to call their own. Tshepho Mashiloane is coming to Soweto. This will spell new competition for Deano Van Rooyen and Bandile Shandu. As reported in previous weeks, the Sea Robbers signed the 23-year-old Baroka FC star for the 2025/26 Betway Premiership and CAF Champions League. While the Orlando Pirates have yet to announce the news, Baroka FC's chairman, Khurishi Mphahlele, has confirmed that the deal has been completed. 'We still got to pay Mashiloane until the end of June, but Orlando Pirates have purchased Mashiloane for the coming season, not this season,' Mphahlele told iDiski Times . Image: IOL 'But if Pirates want Mashiloane earlier there's no problem we've got an agreement with Pirates. We can always make provision for that, but we are going to pay Mashiloane at the end of June because his contract ends at the end of June and the Pirates contract begins on the first of July. Sundowns star gives back to boys at his former school 'From the first of July he is an Orlando Pirates player, until then he's still our player and we pay him.' Another Orlando Pirates player to Kaizer Chiefs?

News coming out of Johannesburg says Kaizer Chiefs are in advanced talks to sign Paseko Mako. The 31-year-old left-back left Orlando Pirates just 24 hours ago. Reports from previous months confirmed that coach Nasreddine Nabi and Amakhosi were set to prioritise the left-back position this winter, with Stellenbosch FC's Fawaaz Basadien the dream target. According to the breaking news, Kaizer Chiefs are moments away from signing Mako on a free deal. Images: @orlandopirates/X Rulani sends honest message to Orlando Pirates boss Yesterday, we discovered that Orlando Pirates' former defender Thabiso Monyane has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs. Today's report has just revealed that Mako may also be wearing gold and black next season. 'SABC Sport can exclusively reveal that former Orlando Pirates defender Paseka Mako could be heading to Naturena as talks with Kaizer Chiefs have progressed to an advanced stage,' Mazola Molefe reported. 'According to information gathered by the public broadcaster, the 31-year-old has entered into talks with their Soweto rivals over a potential move to The Glamour Boys ahead of the upcoming season. Mako, who was born in Zebediela, Limpopo, endured an injury-ravaged season with Orlando Pirates last term. He only made 17 appearances, mainly as a substitute, while the 34-year-old Deon Hotto was a regular starter. The Buccaneers also used the newly promoted Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Yanga Madiba in that left-back role. 'Mako now presents a viable option and will arrive as a free agent, should the finer details be ironed out and all parties involved are satisfied,' Molefe added. Mako, whose football career started at Mamelodi Sundowns' development setup, made his professional debut in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with the defunct Cape Town All Stars, before moving to Chippa United and eventually Orlando Pirates.
