Andre Fili vs. Christian Rodriguez UFC on ESPN 72 preview
Fili (24-12 MMA, 12-11 UFC) has traded wins and losses over his past seven appearances, and comes into this one after a first-round submission loss to Melquizael Costa in February. Prior to that, "Touchy" won a close split nod over Cub Swanson last June at UFC 303, which took Fight of the Night honors. ... Rodriguez (12-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) also fell victim to Costa this year, losing a unanimous decision in March. Before that, Rodriguez was on the right side of the judges' cards in a unanimous nod over Austin Bashi in January.
Andre Fili vs. Christian Rodriguez UFC on ESPN 72 expert pick, prediction
Filling out the main card is a solid featherweight fight between Andre Fili and Christian Rodriguez.
I'm a big fan of both fighters, so picking this one was difficult.
On one hand, it's nice to see Rodriguez getting some love from the oddsmakers and public alike after coming in as some unassuming talent that most wrote off. That said, it seems like Rodriguez is built to beat a specific kind of fighter, all while struggling against similar archetypes to Fili.
I know Fili's last loss was not a good look, but it's usually only dynamic athletes and finishers who have blown the 35-year-old out of the water – and I don't know if Rodriguez fits that bill.
Add in Fili's ability to make fights close with his criminally underrated skill set, and I can't help but take a shot on him in this spot.
The pick is Fili to edge out the scorecards in what should be a competitive fight from start to finish.
Andre Fili vs. Christian Rodriguez UFC on ESPN 72 odds
The oddsmakers and the public favor the younger fighter, listing Rodriguez -245 and Fili +194 via FanDuel.

Michigan football aims for CFP despite ESPN's No. 5 Big Ten ranking

Expectations for Michigan football aren't incredibly high on a national level, but you would never know it if you were inside Schembechler Hall. Yes, the Wolverines went 8-5 last year and are likely to start a freshman quarterback in Bryce Underwood this year. But even so, they are notably improved across the board. Despite losing some key players to the NFL, the depth is there, and even with a freshman quarterback, the passing game should be much improved. Still, ESPN is bearish on Michigan's chances within the Big Ten, as the outlet ranked the Wolverines fifth in its preseason power ranking. 5. All eyes will be on five-star freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood, who has already been turning heads in Ann Arbor with his work ethic and dual-threat abilities. The Wolverines have the running game and figure to be stout defensively once again. If Underwood can supercharge the passing attack, the Wolverines could be back in contention for a playoff spot. This isn't to say that ESPN doesn't believe that the maize and blue will be out of the playoff hunt. In fact, the outlet says that the Wolverines are 'in the running' but not as likely to be in as Penn State, Ohio State, and Oregon. Michigan hopes to rejoin the CFP mix after its strong finish to last season, leaning on a talented defensive front and possibly incoming freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood, the nation's No. 1 recruit. With the schedule that the Wolverines have, the toughest games, besides OSU, are on the road. But Oklahoma was 6-7 last year, while Nebraska and USC were 7-6 -- far from being a murderer's row. If Michigan can, at the very least, play to expectations, it could be a sprint to the 12th game of the season against the Buckeyes. Reds rumors: Hunter Greene injury return is ‘imminent' for final playoff push

The post Reds rumors: Hunter Greene injury return is 'imminent' for final playoff push appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Cincinnati Reds are the first team out of the National League Wild Card race. With new manager Terry Francona running the show, they have raised their ceiling and could chase down a playoff spot. They've kept the train on the tracks without their ace for most of the season and now, he is coming back. The Reds are preparing for Hunter Greene to return from injury soon, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. 'It has been a long, slow climb back for Greene and the right groin strain he suffered, for a second time, on June 3,' Gonzalez reported. 'The right-hander seemed to be approaching a return in July, but he experienced lingering pain and had to shut it down once more. Now, though, his return seems imminent. Greene navigated a third rehab start on Sunday, during which he struck out seven batters in 3 ⅓ innings, and is scheduled to ramp up to 80 pitches on Friday.' The Reds are still getting great pitching from their starting rotation. Andrew Abbott was an All-Star, Nick Lodolo has been excellent, and Brady Singer has been great in his first season with Cincinnati. Greene was sensational before going on the IL, with a 2.72 ERA in 11 starts. While the Reds are in contention this year, they have a bright future to consider as well. They should not push Greene this year and risk further injury, but considering his health through rehab starts, that should not be a big concern. If he continues his dominant form, the Reds can get hot down the stretch. Greene was solid in his first two years as a starter, with a 4.62 ERA in 46 starts. In 2024, he turned it up to another level. From July 1 to the end of last year, he posted a 1.02 ERA in nine starts. When he returns, it will be a massive boost to Cincinnati's rotation. Geoff Neal on Carlos Prates: 'There is no reason this fight should go past Round 1'

Don't blink when Geoff Neal and Carlos Prates throw down at UFC 319. Neal (16-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and Prates (21-7 MMA, 4-1 UFC) square off in a three-round welterweight matchup on Aug. 16 at United Center in Chicago (ESPN+, ESPN, pay-per-view). With both fighters boasting a high knockout percentage, "Handz of Steel" is predicting a quick finish of Prates. "Whoever can keep from getting hit is going to win," Neal said in an interview with Home of Fight. "I really feel like it's going to be a one-round fight. That's my goal. Granted, I'm training for three rounds, but I'm really training for a one-round fight. There is no reason this fight should go past Round 1." The pair were scheduled to fight at UFC 314 in April, but the bout was scrapped when Neal withdrew for undisclosed reasons. Prates ended up competing two weeks later in the UFC on ESPN 66 headliner against Ian Machado Garry, but suffered his first octagon loss. Neal plans on putting the pressure on Prates right off the bat. "I see me knocking him out in the first round," Neal said. "(It's) probably not going to happen in the beginning, but it's going to be probably in the last couple of minutes, maybe three minutes. That's the goal: Get in there, wear him out, put volume on him and then put him down."
