Get ready for a bit of an unsettled week ahead in the Philadelphia area. Each day will be humid with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees and a chance of showers or thunderstorms.
So, consider this your official "Umbrella Alert" for next week. Monday's rain differs from the rest of the week because it will be the remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal.
CBS News Philadelphia
A few showers and storms will start to fire up midday on Monday. But it's really later this afternoon and evening that storms will become a bit more widespread and heavier, especially off to the south.
This moves across Delaware later tonight with heavy rain downpours triggered even further north up toward the city.
A flood watch is in effect through 10 p.m. for flash flooding concerns with any of those storms that fire up.
A cold front sweeping eastward across the region will guide Chantal's remnants across Philadelphia on Monday. Scattered thunderstorms and showers are possible, mainly in the afternoon and evening, and will bring the threat for heavy rainfall along with some gusty winds.
CBS News Philadelphia
Tuesday through Friday, a series of disturbances will move across the region, bringing daily scattered showers and storms.

Denver, Aurora activate cooling centers during extreme, prolonged heat wave

Parts of Colorado are experiencing an extreme and prolonged heat wave this week. The heat has prompted CBS Colorado's First Alert Meteorologists to issue a First Alert Weather Day for Thursday, as hot, dry, and windy conditions grip much of the state. A Heat Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. through Thursday evening across parts of Colorado. The Denver Department of Public Health and Environment is urging people to take care of themselves during periods of extreme heat. They advise people at risk to stay inside in air-conditioned buildings as much as possible, drink more water than usual and don't wait until you are thirsty to drink, and avoid using the stove to cook. "If you do have to be outside, because we do acknowledge that a lot of people have jobs where they have to be outside, make sure that you are doing everything you can, reapply sunscreen as much as possible, pace yourself and rest often, pay attention- if you get any muscle cramping that can be an early sign of heat-related illness and then wear light and loose-fitting clothing," said Amber Campbell with DDPHE. Denver Parks and Recreation has opened the rec centers across the city as cooling centers during normal business hours on Thursday to everyone looking for a space to cool off. Those designated areas will be staffed and the public will have access to drinking water, restrooms and a place to sit. Denver Public Library locations are available to the public as an indoor reprieve from the heat. For information about library hours visit: Residents can also call 720-865-5444 to learn the status of cooling centers. Health experts also advise Colorado residents to check in on those most vulnerable, including pets, older adults and children. The City of Aurora has also opened some cooling locations to the public on Thursday.

Heat wave continues in parts of Southern California as triple-digit heat impacts Inland Empire, valleys

Parts of the Inland Empire and the valleys are expected to have triple-digit temperatures as the heat wave continues in Southern California on Thursday. A KCAL News Next Weather Alert goes into effect and will remain until Friday for all inland communities. The alert was issued Monday to warn residents that an upcoming weather event might impact their daily and precautions should be taken. KCAL Meteorologist Amber Lee says peak temperatures will be on Thursday and will linger into Friday. A National Weather Service heat advisory is also in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for San Bernardino and Riverside County valleys and the Inland Empire. Weather officials say temperatures could reach up to 106 degrees in the advisory areas. A high-pressure system slightly to the east is pushing the hot air into the region. A shallow marine layer will keep the heat away from the coast. The NWS HeatRisk map categorizes areas like Fontana, Highland, Loma Linda, San Bernardino, Riverside and Perris as areas with "major" heat risk, which means conditions could be harmful to anyone "without cooling/hydration, as well as health systems and industries." Once the heat wave passes, there will be slight cooling through the weekend.

Pittsburgh area looking at its 10th straight day with no measurable rain

I am going to tell you a you ready? There is no such thing as "perfect" weather. All weather plays a role in how we survive. Just like you can't have rainy days every day without paying the cost, you also can't just have sunny and pleasant weather all the time. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos Today will be the 10th day in a row that we haven't seen any measurable rain in Pittsburgh. It's the longest stretch of the year so far and the longest stretch since the first week of November last year. We still have a couple of days to go before our next decent chance for rain. I have us staying dry Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. That will bring us up to 13 days in a row with no measurable rain. That would put us in the top 100 of the longest dry stretches ever recorded in Pittsburgh. A stretch of 13 days is fairly rare in Pittsburgh. If we go through Sunday with no rain, it would be only the sixth time we would have gone that long in Pittsburgh over the last decade. Today is obviously expected to be dry, with highs back in the mid to low 80s. I have Pittsburgh hitting 84° for our high temperature. Morning temperatures dipped to near 60 degrees in most communities. I have noon temperatures today in the upper 70s. Winds will be light and out of the east at 5-10mph. Today should see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. Looking at your weekend, Friday highs will still be in the mid-80s for most places. Saturday and Sunday highs will be in the upper 80s. There is a chance for highs hitting the 90s on Sunday. I have a number of days next week where I am forecasting highs hitting the 90s as well. When it comes to rain, scattered storms will be back next week, beginning on Monday. Downpour chances can't be ruled out, but at least as we are starting the week, humidity levels and our precipitable water values won't be in the extreme range. This means the chance for locally heavy downpours and flash flooding won't be extremely high. I'll take it. Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!
