
Central Railway to run 44 extra special trains for Ganpati festival
The train services will be operated from the third week of August and will last till the second week of September.
Ganpati Special trains include eight bi-weekly special services between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and Sawantwadi Road, and 36 unreserved MEMU special services between Diva and Khed. Besides, the Diva–Chiplun–Diva MEMU Daily Unreserved Special trains have been extended by two more services, bringing the total number of services on that route to 40, the Central Railway said.
LTT–Sawantwadi Road Bi-weekly Special (Train No. 01131/01132)
Starting August 28, the LTT–Sawantwadi Road special (Train No. 01131) will run every Thursday and Sunday. It will depart from LTT at 8.45 am and reach Sawantwadi Road at 10.20 pm the same day. The return service (Train No. 01132) will start from Sawantwadi station at 11:20 pm on the same days and reach LTT at 12.30 am the next day.
These trains will halt at major Konkan stations, including Thane, Panvel, Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Kudal, and others. The train composition includes 2 AC 3-Tier coaches, 12 Sleeper Class coaches, 6 General Second Class coaches, and 2 Second Seating cum Guard's brake vans.
Diva–Khed MEMU Unreserved Daily Specials (Train No. 01133/01134)
Thirty-six MEMU services will operate between Diva and Khed from August 22 to September 9. The Diva–Khed train (01133) will depart daily at 1.40 pm and arrive at Khed by 10 pm. The return Khed–Diva train (01134) will run from August 23 to September 9, departing at 8 am and reaching Diva at 1 pm. These unreserved services are designed to serve short-distance passengers and will halt at 24 intermediate stations, including Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, and Veer.
Extension of Diva–Chiplun MEMU Services
Previously scheduled to run till September 8, the Diva–Chiplun–Diva MEMU Specials (Train No. 01155/01156) will now operate till September 10, with two additional services. These MEMU services have been in high demand and cater largely to daily commuters and festival travellers along the Konkan route.

Mumbai: Harbour Line night services to be disrupted from Aug 5 to 9 for signal work
Commuters on Mumbai's Harbour Line should brace for disruptions this week as Central Railway will conduct night traffic blocks on the Harbour Line from midnight of August 5 to 9 to commission a new Electronic Interlocking (EI) system at Vashi station. The blocks will be enforced every night from 10.45 pm to 3.45 am, affecting both UP and DOWN suburban services on critical stretches such as CSMT–Vashi–Belapur–Panvel and CSMT–Bandra. As per a press release issued Monday, several suburban trains will be short-terminated, short-originated, or cancelled during these hours. Belapur–CSMT locals departing at 8.54 pm will terminate at Vashi. The 9.16 pm Belapur–CSMT and 10 pm Bandra–CSMT locals will be short-terminated at Vadala Road, while Panvel–Vashi services at 10.50 pm and 11.32 pm will end at Nerul. During the early morning hours, Panvel-bound trains typically departing CSMT at 4.52 am and 5.30 am, as well as from Vadala Road at 5.06 am and 5.52 am, will originate from Nerul instead. The Goregaon-bound local at 5.10 am will begin from Vadala Road. From August 7/8 and 8/9, only the 5.10 am Goregaon local from CSMT will short-originate from Vadala Road. Several UP trains departing Vashi at 4.03 am, 4.15 am, 4.25 am, 4.37 am, 4.50 am, and 5.04 am will be cancelled on August 5, 6, and 7. On August 8 and 9, only the 4.03 am and 4.25 am services will be cancelled. DOWN locals for Vashi departing CSMT at 9.50 pm, 10.14 pm, and 10.30 pm are cancelled on all four block nights. 'These infrastructure blocks are being carried out for the commissioning of Electronic Interlocking at Vashi,' Central Railway said in its official release, urging commuters to check updated train schedules and plan their journeys.

Railway board chief inspects stations to assess preparedness
Nashik: Satish Kumar, the chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, inspected Nashik Road, Devlali, Odha, Kherwadi, and Kasbe Sukene railway stations to assess preparedness for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, focusing on cleanliness, passenger amenities, track fitness, infrastructural upgrades, and overall station readiness. He was accompanied by Dharam Veer Meena, the general manager of Central Railway, Punit Agarwal, the divisional railway manager of Bhusawal, and other senior officers from Central Railway headquarters and Bhusawal division. Following the inspection, a high-level meeting was held with officers from state govt to discuss planning and coordination for the mega event. The discussions emphasised inter-agency cooperation and the timely execution of infrastructure works. Topics covered included crowd management strategies, transport integration, and execution timelines. Joint action plans were proposed to ensure the smooth and safe handling of the expected massive footfall during the Kumbh Mela. Meanwhile, members of the Monthly Pass Holders and Passenger Welfare Association in Nashik requested Kumar to introduce a new train from Nashik Road to Pune via Kalyan, with a 5.30am departure time from Nashik Road. They also sought the extension of the Manmad-Kachheguda Ajantha Express up to Nashik Road to directly connect two religious places. New waiting halls & lounges to enhance passenger comfort at Nagpur station
Nagpur: As part of the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Central Railway's Nagpur Division is rapidly advancing the redevelopment of Nagpur Railway Station, with a special focus on enhancing passenger comfort through state-of-the-art waiting halls and lounges. On the east side, a modern and spacious waiting hall is under development with upgraded flooring, stylish wall cladding, improved ventilation, and energy-efficient lighting. False ceiling and louver installation works are in progress, aiming to offer a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment for travellers. The west side will soon feature an elegant lounge area designed for long-distance passengers. This space is being refurbished with premium seating arrangements, Divyangjan-friendly amenities, and enhanced sanitation facilities to ensure inclusivity and hygiene. At the concourse level, a grand common waiting area is taking shape between Line 18/19. The foundation and slab work are already completed. This space will serve as a central hub for transit passengers, providing integrated amenities such as digital displays, drinking water stations, and accessible pathways.
