Formula One presenter Naomi Schiff has predicted that "mind games" will be at play in the McLaren garage as both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri battle closely for the 2025 championship.
McLaren's MCL39 F1 car has been a dominant machine this season thus far, given that Piastri and Norris occupy the top two positions in the Drivers' Standings in the same order. The Papaya outfit experienced a resurgence in the current ground effect era, mid-2024, and surpassed Red Bull to win the constructors' championship.
The Woking-based outfit adopted a radical approach with the MCL39, which is mostly new compared to its predecessor, the MCL38. However, having a dominant car with two strong drivers could lead to a situation where they are constantly compared.
Following Norris' British Grand Prix win last weekend, he closed the gap to Piastri in the championship by a considerable margin. He trails his Australian teammate by just 8 points. Sky Sports' Naomi Schiff has opened up on the probability of mental games affecting both drivers. She said:
Lando Norris of Great Britain and McLaren and Oscar Piastri of Australia and McLaren take part in media duties on the deck of the hospitality suite during previews ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of...
Lando Norris of Great Britain and McLaren and Oscar Piastri of Australia and McLaren take part in media duties on the deck of the hospitality suite during previews ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Spain at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on May 29, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. More"They have proven to be competitive at every circuit and have so much consistency that it doesn't look like anyone is able, yet, to take the fight to them.
"So mind games will 100% come into it.
"Comparison is the killer of joy! Your teammate next to you is constantly being compared. That's what will be hard.
"I am sure [Mark Webber] has been giving [Piastri] help from the sidelines of all the things to think about."
Schiff believes Norris has more homework to do than Piastri, considering he was slower in qualifying at Silverstone. She added:
"There were a few places that Lando dropped the ball this weekend.
"He didn't have the right lap in qualifying. He qualified behind his teammate.
"There were rumours he was saving the inters but he didn't seem to be as quick as Oscar.
"There are things for him to study despite his victory."
Piastri failed to extend his lead in the championship after a safety car infringement at Silverstone, for which he was handed a ten-second penalty. That allowed Norris to take the lead and seal his victory. Expressing his frustration at the penalty, Piastri said after the race:
"Yeah, I'm not gonna say much. I'll get myself in trouble, so well done to Nico. I think that's the highlight of the day, so... yeah, I'll leave it there."
When Jenson Button insisted he spoke about the incident, Piastri added:
"Yeah, I mean, apparently you can't brake behind the safety car anymore. I mean, I did it for five laps before that and... again, I'm not gonna say too much 'cause I'll get myself in trouble. But thanks to the crowd for a great event. Thanks for sticking through the weather. I still like Silverstone even if I don't like it today, so thanks for coming out."

Yankees Hall Of Fame Manager Sends Heartfelt Message To Aaron Boone

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Yankees have one of the better rosters in baseball, led by one of the best players of this generation, Aaron Judge, but it hasn't meant much since the All-Star break. Aaron Boone's team is in a downward spiral right now, and there's no obvious fix. At times, the team can't score runs. Other times, they're running themselves into ridiculous outs on the base paths. Defense has let them down on more than one occasion. The bullpen and some of manager Aaron Boone's decisions have led to losses, too. At the end of the day, most of the blame is being placed on Boone, though he's not the one making the physical mistakes on the field. ATLANTA, GEORGIA - JULY 15: Former manager of the New York Yankees Joe Torre and Aaron Boone #17 of the New York Yankees laugh before the MLB All-Star Game at Truist Park on July 15, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. More Gene Wang - CaptureHall of Fame manager Joe Torre knows what it's like to be the manager of the Yankees. Considering Torre knows the pressure with that job, he recently sent a heartfelt message to Boone amid the team's free fall down the standings. "I feel for Aaron Boone. I've been in that place where you're trying to rearrange the furniture and hopefully it makes a difference," Torre told SNY's Chelsea Sherrod ahead of the team's "Old-Timer's Game" on Saturday afternoon. At the end of the day, Boone makes every decision with the betterment of the team in mind. Devin Williams has lost the team a lot of games recently, but David Bednar can't pitch every night. Luke Weaver can't throw two, three, or four innings out of the bullpen. At some point, Williams is going to be put in a big spot. Boone hasn't been the perfect manager, but it's hard not to feel for him. He has more pressure on him than anybody in the sport. Boone's job might be at risk, but he's not the entire issue with the Yankees. There are more people to push the blame on. More MLB: Yankees Devin Williams Finally Breaks Silence On Brutal Struggles

Why Shedeur Sanders approached Tony Grossi over 'negative' coverage

"You only say negative stuff about me. And I'm like, I ain't do nothing to you."Shedeur Sanders spoke with Cleveland-based sports journalist and Browns analyst Tony Grossi after his Browns debut.(via @WellOffForever, @DeionSandersJr) Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders put on a show in Charlotte on Friday night, but he also had some choice words for longtime Cleveland radio host and journalist Tony Grossi. Sanders approached Grossi, alleging that the Cleveland media personality "only [says] negative stuff about [Sanders]" and that he's never done anything to Grossi in the past. The two did share a brief laugh in the awkward encounter, but Sanders seemed adamant that Grossi hasn't been treating him fairly since he got to Cleveland as a fifth round 2025 NFL Draft selection. "What did I do to you, Tony?" Sanders asked as he walked away from the encounter. Grossi is an established media figure in the area, and we're sure this isn't the first time he's been confronted by a Cleveland player over negative coverage of a long-suffering sports franchise. Sanders performed admirably in his first NFL preseason start, and we're sure Grossi will give him a fair shake with those encouraging reps. However, both participants in this exchange are occupying typical roles in sports and media. Neither is technically in the wrong, even if Sanders took a very direct approach to his frustration. Sanders has a right to be annoyed by Grossi's coverage as much as Grossi has a right to his opinions of Sanders, positive or negative. While most players don't go about it in such a direct way as Sanders did, it can come with the territory of being a vocal sports personality in the media. As Sanders gets older, he may find different avenues to vent his frustration with folks like Grossi. However, how he plays and if he's successful or not will ultimately drive most of the discourse around his career. When will Sanders play again? Cleveland will head to Philadelphia to play the Eagles on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Shedeur Sanders confronts reporter after NFL preseason debut vs. Panthers

Shedeur Sanders had time on Friday night – some of it in the pocket, but maybe more of it after the game. In the wake of Sanders' positive debut vs. the Carolina Panthers, the rookie quarterback caught up with Cleveland-based reporter and radio personality Tony Grossi. Sanders appeared to take issue with Grossi's negative slant towards him. In the tunnels of Bank of America Stadium, Sanders addressed Grossi directly, and called out his coverage. And he did it with a smile on: "Tony, I be hoping you have something positive to say about me," Sanders tells Grossi in the video (via Well Off Media). "You only say negative stuff about me. And I'm like, 'I ain't do nothing to you.'" "Come on, what I do? What'd I do to you, Tony?" Sanders kept a smile on throughout the short-lived conversation and he and the reporter shared a little bit of a laugh before the passer headed into the locker room. It's not the first time that Sanders has confronted a perceived detractor in a public setting. In 2024, the then-Colorado Buffaloes quarterback caught up with Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and refused to shake his hand following a 43-35 Colorado victory. Sanders finished 14-of-23 passing with 138 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns win. He played almost three entire quarters and showcased skill that led some draft analysts to believe he should have been a Day 1 selection. With more performances like he had on Friday night, Sanders may find himself speaking with plenty more critics in the coming weeks, months or years.
