Shedeur Sanders confronts reporter after NFL preseason debut vs. Panthers
In the wake of Sanders' positive debut vs. the Carolina Panthers, the rookie quarterback caught up with Cleveland-based reporter and radio personality Tony Grossi. Sanders appeared to take issue with Grossi's negative slant towards him.
In the tunnels of Bank of America Stadium, Sanders addressed Grossi directly, and called out his coverage. And he did it with a smile on:
"Tony, I be hoping you have something positive to say about me," Sanders tells Grossi in the video (via Well Off Media). "You only say negative stuff about me. And I'm like, 'I ain't do nothing to you.'"
"Come on, what I do? What'd I do to you, Tony?"
Sanders kept a smile on throughout the short-lived conversation and he and the reporter shared a little bit of a laugh before the passer headed into the locker room.
It's not the first time that Sanders has confronted a perceived detractor in a public setting. In 2024, the then-Colorado Buffaloes quarterback caught up with Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and refused to shake his hand following a 43-35 Colorado victory.
Sanders finished 14-of-23 passing with 138 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns win. He played almost three entire quarters and showcased skill that led some draft analysts to believe he should have been a Day 1 selection.
With more performances like he had on Friday night, Sanders may find himself speaking with plenty more critics in the coming weeks, months or years.

The Colorado product completed 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards with two touchdowns. Following the Browns' 30-10 win over the Panthers, Shedeur confronted Tony Grossi of 850 ESPN Cleveland. Apparently, the longtime Browns analyst was critical of Sanders leading up to the preseason opener. "You always say negative stuff about me," Sanders told Grossi. "I didn't do nothing to you. I've never seen you say anything positive about me." Sanders didn't sound angry when he confronted Grossi. He genuinely wanted to know why he was being painted in such a negative light. A few hours after this interaction between Sanders and Grossi occurred, the latter went on social media to share his thoughts on the rookie quarterback. "My bottom line on Shedeur Sanders' impressive debut: He put the pressure on QB2 Kenny Pickett and QB3 Dillon Gabriel to get healthy and perform next week," Grossi wrote. NFL fans are convinced this was Grossi's official response to being called out by Sanders, albeit he didn't exactly address the elephant in the room. "Look at Tony being positive," one fan wrote. "That was a cool moment between you two." "The fact that we now know why he tweeted this is hilarious," another fan replied. Next up for the Browns is a showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles. We'd have to imagine Sanders will get a few first-or-second-team reps leading up to that preseason game. "The situations were invaluable for Shedeur and all of our offense," Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said, via Scott Procter of DNVR Buffs. "We got a third-and-1 where he had a quarterback sneak. I mean, there's just a lot of football and that's by design with him getting a ton of reps in this game, and he'll get a ton of reps next week as well. That's all part of our development of our young players." If Gabriel and Pickett aren't cleared in time for next Saturday's game, Sanders will probably get the chance to play at least an entire half of football. But after last night's performance, Browns legend Joe Thomas believes that people need to stop with the "nonsense." Taking to X this morning, Thomas responded to allegations that the Browns are "setting Sanders up to fail." He called that notion nonsense and shared an excerpt from a piece by Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot explaining what's going on. Thomas asserted that the staff is "clearly invested in his development" and believes that the people accusing the team fo sabotage are "closing your eyes to facts." "For everyone pushing the 'Browns are setting @ShedeurSanders up to fail' nonsense — read @MaryKayCabot," Thomas urged. He's learning a brand-new offense, mastering NFL pre-snap reads, and the staff is clearly invested in his development. Sometimes 'sabotage' is just you closing your eyes to facts because the truth doesn't fit your desired narrative." The article by Cabot asserts that Sanders isn't being set up to fail, but is instead being given a crash course on all of the NFL ins-and-outs to best prepare himself for everything. To that end, Sanders has worked directly with head coach Kevin Stefanski, even when he hasn't been getting reps with the first-team offense. Browns fans in the comments couldn't help but concede that it looks like Sanders is being set up for success, not failure: "This certainly reads like he's being setup to succeed. Then last night was a test to see how much he's picked up and he passed it with flying colors," one user replied. Kayfus hits 1st major league homer, Guardians beat White Sox 3-1 for 5th straight win
CJ Kayfus hit his first major league home run and scored twice to help the Cleveland Guardians beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1 on Saturday night for their fifth straight victory. Kayfus, promoted to the majors Aug. 2, homered in the sixth for a 3-1 lead. He walked and scored the tiebreaking run on Brayan Rocchio's double in the fourth. Kayfus, who had a three-run double in a 9-5 victory Friday night, has seven hits in his first 23 at-bats, four for extra bases. Steven Kwan led off the game with a double and scored on Kyle Manzardo's single for Cleveland's other run. Joey Cantillo (3-2) went 5 2/3 innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks while striking out three. Cade Smith got his fifth save with a perfect ninth. Chicago's Michael A. Taylor hit eighth homer this season and third in the last four games to tie it in second. He had two of Chicago's four hits. Sean Burke (4-9) started and pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on five hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Kafus' first homer made him first Cleveland player with four extra-base hits, including a home run, in his first seven MLB games since current teammate Carlos Santana in 2010. The Guardians are six games over .500 (61-55) for the first time since June 4 (33-27). The three-game series concludes Sunday with Cleveland RHP Slade Cecconi (5-4, 3.72) facing Davis Martin (3-9, 4.11).
