Ford Performance Celebrates Podium Finish and Thrilling Moments at the 2025 Dakar Rally - Middle East Business News and Information
Mattias Ekström and Emil Bergkvist claimed third place overall, capping their rally with a decisive Stage 11 victory in the Empty Quarter. The duo set a strong pace before the race even started, securing a P2 finish in the Prologue with just a second separating the leader and a P3 finish in Stage 5. This year's format was one of the most challenging in the event's history, as the 48h Chrono and Marathon stages marked the first half of the race, and the Empty Quarter, a no-man's land of desert and dunes, met competitors in the final stages. It was also marked by incredible feats from Carlos Sainz Sr., Mitch Guthrie Jr., and Nani Roma. Sainz delivered one of the rally's most epic moments during the 48-hour chrono stage. After an early roll, he and co-driver Lucas Cruz refused to give up, and with crucial assistance from teammate Mitch Guthrie Jr., the legendary driver fought back to finish the stage—an extraordinary demonstration of grit and teamwork, and exemplifying the Built Ford Tough team mantra.
Nani Roma added a commanding comeback win in Stage 10, navigating treacherous dunes to outpace the competition. Roma's win marked his first stage win (and the first stage win for the Ford M-Sport team) in a decade and underscored the breadth of talent within Team Ford M-Sport and the Raptor T1+'s ability to excel under extreme conditions.
Mitch Guthrie Jr., in his first Dakar Rally in the Ultimate class and one of few Americans competing, ran an impressive, clean – and fast – race with co-driver Kellon Walch, landing fifth overall in the rally.

The 2025 Dakar Rally also highlighted the cutting-edge engineering behind the Ford Raptor T1+, a vehicle designed to push boundaries and dominate the toughest off-road environments. The Raptor T1+ features advanced FOX shocks only found on the four Ford race vehicles in the Dakar race, and an unmistakable Coyote-based 5.0 V8 that roared through the desert over the 12 days of competition.
'We have had some real highs and some real lows during this incredible race,' said Matthew Wilson, Team Principal, Team Ford M-Sport. 'Losing Carlos so early on in the race and the bitter disappointment for Nani with his issues, was tough for the team but we rallied around Matthias and Mitch and ultimately delivered a podium and two cars in the top five which, in our first full outing with the Ford Raptor T1+, is a great start to the whole program. It's been a hell of an experience – the team has been incredible over the last three weeks but now we focus on the rest of the Rally Raid season ahead with renewed enthusiasm and confidence.'

'It was one of the toughest decisions I ever made. So I hope the goodbye is always also in a good timing you know. But I think it's the right time to make this decision.' Son was asked in Korean on his future playing plans, and he replied: 'I don't think I have an answer yet.' He also confirmed in Korean that he would play for South Korea at the World Cup next year in North America. In May, Son finally won his first title in Europe as Tottenham defeated Manchester United in the Europa League final. 'I felt the pressure. I wanted it so badly,' Son said after that match. 'The last seven days, I was dreaming about this game every single day. It finally happened, and I can sleep easy now.' Football players' union hits back at 'autocratic' FIFA, Infantino in fallout from CWC - World
The global football players' union hit back at FIFA and its president Gianni Infantino on Friday, saying their autocratic style of leadership was harming the rights of its members. 'Football needs responsible leadership, not emperors,' the FIFPRO network said after a meeting of 58 national player unions responded to FIFA pursuing its agenda with unofficial player representatives. 'It needs fewer autocratic monologues and more genuine, inclusive and transparent dialogue,' the union added. FIFA announced two weeks ago it reached a consensus on key issues after Infantino hosted a group of mostly non-recognized officials in New York ahead of the Club World Cup final. The latest rift between football's governing body and its players' unions flared while the European Commission in Brussels is considering a formal complaint against FIFA. It was filed by FIFPRO's European division and national leagues in Europe against FIFA's style of governance and decision-making. FIFPRO said FIFA's core agenda included an overloaded global match calendar with too many games for elite players, lack of physical and mental recovery periods and extreme playing conditions. Players at the month-long Club World Cup in the United States reported feeling dizzy and unwell in the heat of daytime games played to appeal to worldwide TV audiences. The 63-game tournament backed by Saudi Arabian money was lucrative for clubs, especially in Europe, though FIFA added it to the schedule without formally consulting players. The tournament, FIFPRO said, was 'celebrated by President Infantino despite being held under conditions that were extreme and inappropriate for any human being, demonstrating a troubling insensitivity to human rights, even when it concerns elite athletes. 'FIFPRO reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of men and women players — rights which are being seriously undermined by commercial policies imposed by its autocratic system of governance,' the Netherlands-based union said of FIFA. 'This is a model that puts the health of players at risk and sidelines those at the heart of the game,' FIFPRO said, adding it was 'unacceptable for an organization that claims global leadership to turn a blind eye to the basic needs of the players.' FIFA was approached for comment. FIFPRO has not had a formal working agreement with FIFA since the previous one expired in 2023. Brentford signs former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson
Brentford signed England international Jordan Henderson on a two-year deal on Tuesday and described the midfielder as 'one of the most influential leaders' in the Premier League. Former Liverpool captain Henderson was a free agent after having his contract terminated by Ajax last week. 'When we became aware of Jordan's availability, it was a pretty simple decision,' said Brentford coach Keith Andrews. 'He will drive standards and be a brilliant addition to the squad.'
