‘We are ruined, Hinjewadi IT Park moving out of Maharashtra': Ajit Pawar's angry outburst goes viral
A video clip of Pawar expressing frustration over local governance issues has gone viral on social media. While speaking to Ganesh Jambhulkar, a local sarpanch, during an early morning inspection, Pawar warned that the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi was losing ground to Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
'We are finished. The entire Hinjewadi IT Park is relocating, leaving Pune and Maharashtra for Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Is anyone even bothered?' said Pawar, who is also Pune's guardian minister.
The remarks were made during a surprise visit to areas around the IT park, which took place around 6 am, where Pawar reviewed complaints related to waterlogging and other civic problems across several areas in Pimpri Chinchwad.
As Jambhulkar raised concerns in front of the media, Pawar responded curtly, saying, 'Temples get submerged when dams are built. Say what you want — I'll listen — but I will act as I see fit.'
He also expressed frustration at the need for such early morning inspections and said the situation demanded tough decisions. 'Why do I need to come here at six in the morning? This can't continue — strong steps must be taken,' he said, asking media persons to turn off their cameras.
Subsequently, the Deputy CM took to the microblogging site X, sharing footage of his visit from early in the day, writing, 'Change is coming, every problem of Puneites will be solved..!'
This was Pawar's second visit to Hinjewadi within a week, after locals, mostly comprising the IT workforce, had complained about poor infrastructure leading to frequent waterlogging, traffic snarls, and power cuts. Even the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had held a meeting earlier this month, assuring a quick solution to the problems faced by locals.
The Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi, developed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), spans over 2,800 acres. It is home to over 200 firms and contributes over 60 per cent of Maharashtra's IT export.
Pawar's remarks have triggered questions about the state's ability to retain major investments in its tech sector, as opposition has previously claimed that IT companies are leaving Hinjewadi park. Last year in June, Hinjewadi Industries Association (HIA) had claimed that 37 IT companies had moved out of Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park because of a lack of basic infrastructure.

Maharashtra launches ‘Manhole to Machinehole' scheme to end manual scavenging, Rs 504 crore sanctioned
Days after Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister and Finance minister Ajit Pawar announced in the state legislative assembly that the government will implement time bound program to completely stop manual scavenging, the 'Manhole to Machinehole' scheme was announced on Wednesday. Under the scheme, drains, sewer lines, and septic tanks shall be cleaned using mechanised equipment. The scheme includes procurement of cleaning machinery, modern vehicles, and emergency response sanitation units. It is being implemented by the Urban Development Department (UDD) with an approved funding of Rs 504 crore and an additional RS 100 crore was sanctioned in the Monsoon Session of 2024–25 and disbursed to the department by March 31, 2025. Procurement of robotic units, cleaning equipment, and emergency vehicles has also begun. Pawar directed that maintenance of these vehicles for three years and training of sanitation workers for operating them must be ensured by the respective agency. He also directed the UDD to prepare a special proposal for the housing of sanitation workers. Under the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Shram Safalya Awas Yojana, dwelling units are provided free of cost and on ownership basis to the eligible heirs of conservancy workers post their retirement or in the event of death while in service. At present, the benefit is extended only to sanitation workers who have completed 25 years or more of service. Pawar has directed the UDD to prepare a proposal to reduce this service requirement from 25 years to 20 years and present it before the Cabinet. Pawar has also directed all municipal corporations and councils to strictly implement the government resolution (GR) based on the Lad-Page Committee's recommendations. He said that non-compliance will attract action. The committee established in 1972 to address issues related to the employment of sanitation workers. Pawar stated that civic bodies should submit detailed reports on the number of sanitation workers working in their respective jurisdictions to the UDD.

Ahead of elections, Maharashtra govt had cleared road works worth Rs 9,300 crore in tribal areas
In months leading to the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Maharashtra's Tribal Development department had approved road works worth Rs 9,300 crore against the approved budget of merely Rs 2,830 crore. As per the data accessed by The Indian Express, the government has dues pending Rs 10,100 crore for the works undertaken in the past three years. The finance minister has directed to avoid taking up the new projects and focus on paying up the dues. Directions have also been given to review the works which were given administrative approval but could not be started for over a year. The Tribal Affairs department of the state government undertake road works in tribal areas (budget head 5054 5117). Since the year 2022-23 to 2024-25, works worth Rs 13,016 crore were approved against the approved budget of just Rs 3,230 crore. As per the data, in December 2023 (leading up to Lok Sabha 2024 polls) woks worth Rs 4,500 crore and in July 2024 (leading up to Assembly 2024 polls) works worth Rs 4,800 crore were approved, which amounts to a total of 70 per cent of the total works in the past three years. Prior to December 2023, the total amount of administrative approval for the year 2023-24 was Rs 2,900 crore only. As per the data, works worth Rs 700 crore were given administrative approval in the year 2022-23 against the budget of Rs 400 crore. On Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar held a review of the financial situation of the department. 'The total pendency of the dues is around Rs 10,000 crore for last three years. The minister has directed us to ensure that dues are paid and there will be no new projects,' said an official who attended the meeting. Pawar has also asked to take the review of the pending road works for more than a year. 'There are works which did not start for more than a year despite administrative approval. Directions have been given that those works will be cancelled,' said the official. The associations of Maharashtra's contractors and engineers have been demanding their dues from the government since last year. In February they wrote a letter to state government's top leadership warning to stop all ongoing infrastructure works as payments worth Rs 89,000 crore from different departments have allegedly not been paid since July 2024. Despite stopping the works in phase-wise manner across the state, the contractors have yet not been paid. Among the alleged Rs 89,000 crore dues of the contractors include Rs 46,000 crore from the Public Works Department (PWD), Rs 18,000 crore from the Jal Jeevan Mission under Water Supply and Sanitation department, Rs 8,600 crore from the rural development department, Rs 19,700 crore from the irrigation department and Rs 1,700 crore from the works done under DPDC, MLA fund and MP fund.

"Fadnavis Act": Sanjay Raut's Big Allegation As Agency Probes Civic Official
Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate's ongoing probe into former Vasai-Virar Municipal Commissioner Anil Pawar has triggered political tremors in Maharashtra, with Sanjay Raut - MP from Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena -- alleging that senior minister Dada Bhuse played a key role in Pawar's controversial appointment, which might bring the Central agency to his door next. This adds Mr Bhuse -- a Shiv Sena Eknath Shinde faction leader -- to the long list of ministers who have been on the Opposition's radar over multiple cases in recent weeks. Mr Raut said the government's increasing focus on the Sena ministers could just be a ploy to keep the ally in check. Mr Raut used the moment to target Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accusing him of double standards. "There's a Fadnavis Act in Maharashtra. When ministers in his government are accused of wrongdoing, they are simply told what went wrong and let off. But when it comes to common citizens, or Opposition leaders, they are dealt with strictly," Mr Raut said. He has also pointed to the larger context, suggesting that the BJP is using agencies like the ED to keep allies like the Shinde Sena in check. "Amit Salunkhe's arrest, ED raids on the relatives of Shinde Sena ministers -- these are not isolated incidents," he said. "They show how the BJP is trying to keep Eknath Shinde's people under pressure." The political row erupted after the ED, on Tuesday, carried out inspections at multiple properties linked to Anil Pawar. A 413-square-metre plot at the foothills of Pandav Leni in Nashik's Pathardi area was among those surveyed. Officials suspect that Pawar may have misused administrative privileges during his tenure to acquire the land. Properties in Satana are also under the ED's scanner, with sources indicating possible irregularities in ownership and acquisition. Mr Raut has alleged that Pawar's selection as Vasai-Virar Commissioner was done by bypassing service rules, allegedly at the behest of Mr Bhuse, who was then the agriculture minister. He claimed Mr Bhuse had issued a formal recommendation in Pawar's favour, which was subsequently acted upon by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. "Dada Bhuse not only recommended Anil Pawar, but ensured he got the post despite violations of protocol. The ED might knock on his door next," Mr Raut warned. Mr Bhuse denied any wrongdoing and dismissed claims that Pawar was a close relative. But he did not categorically deny issuing a recommendation letter. He also turned the tables, saying Raut too had signed similar recommendation letters in the past. The controversy comes amid clear signs of unease within the Mahayuti alliance, especially after several Shinde Sena MLAs stayed away from a dinner hosted by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Mr Raut claimed the internal rift, combined with increasing ED action against Shinde Sena leaders, reflects the BJP's strategy to maintain control over its allies ahead of the crucial civic elections.
