Crews rushed to the derelict building around 3.07am after the alarm was raised.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched six engines and one height appliance.
Fortunately, no one has been hurt by the blaze.
But the SFRS has warned residents about the dangers of smoke inhilation.
Locals have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
The hotel on Queensferry Road has been abandoned for more than 20 years.
The dilapidated building has previously been a target of anti-social behaviour.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: 'We were alerted at 3.07am on Wednesday, 13 August, to reports of a building on fire at Queensferry Road, Dunfermline.
'Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances, one height vehicle and specialist resources to the scene where firefighters are working to extinguish a fire affecting a derelict building.
'There are no reported casualties at this time and crews remain at the scene.'
Moment Scots park goes up in flames as cops hunt for four suspects
Last month, Lib Dems councillor for Dunfermline South, James Calder, voiced concerns over the hotel site.
Today, he said: 'A fire at the former King Malcolm Hotel is the last thing the local community here in Pitcorthie needs, but sadly I am not surprised.
"Over the past few years I have been inundated with calls about antisocial behaviour at the site, and it is not acceptable that local residents have to deal with this type of atrocious behaviour.
"I have been in regular contact with Police Scotland about these issues and while they have been engaging with the site owners, it remains a challenge.
"I would like to thank the emergency services for their prompt action today and will wait to see what they say about the cause of this latest incident."

First pic of Putin's youngest son Vladimir Jr, 6, emerges as it's revealed his private tutors are paid £320k a year EACH
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) VLADIMIR Putin's youngest son has been pictured for the first time ever as a snap of the six-year-old has finally emerged. Born in Moscow in 2019, Vladimir Junior is said to have private tutors who rake in more than £320,000 a year each. While Swiss-born Ivan has been pictured multiple times, this is the first glimpse of 72-year-old Putin's second son – named after his father. It comes as Russian anti-corruption campaigner Maria Pevchikh revealed the 'princes' are schooled inside Putin's hidden palaces by personal tutors on staggering salaries. Leaked data shows the teachers are secretly paid by a company linked to Putin's billionaire crony Gennady Timchenko, 72, who also supports Kabaeva and boasts a £16billion fortune. Details of the boys' German language tutors were exposed – Sofia Bozic, 33, from Bosnia, and Irene Ens, 36, from Germany. Pevchikh, a long-time ally of Kremlin foe Alexei Navalny, who was 'murdered' last year in his hellhole Arctic jail, said: 'Both Irene and Sofia are the personal tutors of Putin and Alina Kabaeva's sons – Vladimir Jr and Ivan. 'They are now six and ten years old. Sofia Bozic and Irene Enns regularly travel by train to Uglovka and Akulovka stations. 'These are the nearest railway stations to Putin's residence in Valdai, where he is believed to spend most of his time with his children and Alina Kabaeva.' The forest palace is guarded by at least a dozen state-of-the-art air defence systems to fend off Ukrainian drones and missiles. 'Since summer 2024, the personal tutors of Putin's sons have been paid by Gennady Timchenko's company Ena-Invest,' Pevchikh claimed. Trump says Putin showdown will be like 'chess' & admits '25% chance of failure'… but plans under way for SECOND meeting 'And paid generously. If primary school teachers from the regions — even from Moscow — are watching me now, I apologise in advance, brace yourselves. 'The tutors of Putin's children receive 2,900,000 rubles a month [£26,775].' That's more than £320,000 a year – seven years' pay for a German teacher in the Russian provinces. Pevchikh added: 'And they're not paid by the pupils' father — after all, Putin's official salary is three times less than that of the foreign tutor. '[The money comes from] Gennady Timchenko, who holds Putin's cashbox. 'That's the essence of the corruption system built by Vladimir Putin. 'From the very start of his first presidential term [in 2000] it was designed this way….and it continues to develop at a furious pace.' 7 Vladimir Putin's secluded lakeside estate in Valdai, hidden in a national park and accessible only by guarded road or rail Credit: East2West 7 Sofia Bozic, 33, a Bosnian citizen and a teacher of German Credit: East2West 7 Irene Ens, 36, a German citizen and a teacher of German Credit: East2West According to Pevchikh's investigation 'Putin's Common Fund: Who Pays for Putin and Kabaeva's Luxurious Life?', Timchenko also splashed £4.6million into Kabaeva's foundation. 'Putin's beloved woman needs half a billion for a hobby,' she said sarcastically. 'Well, Putin can't just transfer it to her from his own salary card. 'And that's when dear comrade Timchenko comes to the rescue, transferring it from the place where the common money is kept.' Another £4.2million went to a clinic linked to Putin's eldest daughter Maria Vorontsova, 40. Putin's critics have long claimed he is one of the richest men in the world, with his wealth stashed away by friendly oligarchs – but until now there's been little proof of such 'cashbox' operations. Officially, the Russian leader earns around £94,000 a year. Earlier this year, Ivan was pictured at a gymnastics event in Valdai – the same high-security compound served by its own railway line and Putin's personal armoured train. The exclusion zone around the sprawling estate is bigger than Malta, and even boasts a karting track and a massive children's playground hidden deep in the woods – painted in the yellow and blue of Ukraine.

Second parent shares 'strangling' fears at Scots primary school
The mum, who spoke anonymously to protect her daughter's identity, revealed a series of troubling incidents. A second parent has come forward to claim her daughter fell victim of an 'attempted strangling' at a Scots primary school. The mum, who spoke anonymously to protect her daughter's identity revealed a serious of troubling incidents which saw her daughter, allegedly strangled, choked, threatened with a knife an a abused by a fellow pupil. She said her child had to be regularly taken out of her P4 class due to the violence she faced. And she feared for her daughter who has 'anxiety' about returning to school to start P5, Edinburgh Live reports. 'I feel physically sick at her lack of safety,' the mum said. 'She is terrified, she walks to school and comes home in tears. 'Each day I'm waiting by the phone to hear she has been hurt again. I feel like her education is being failed and they are not interested in taking on my complaint. 'The child who is doing this to her needs proper support. He should not be in a mainstream setting. 'I keep getting told this child is entitled to a state education. So is my child and she currently isn't getting that. They are failing my child.' The latest incident of strangling apparently took place shortly after her daughter had suffered from a broken collar bone which left her in serious pain. Another incident of choking is said to have taken place at the school. 'My daughter has been strangled and choked on two occasions now,' the mum added. 'She was also attacked with Lego. 'The boy threatened her by saying he was going to the canteen to get a knife for her. The way the school handles it also makes her a target for this boy. 'Their classroom is being evacuated all the time due to the boy throwing tables and chairs. He even attacked the teacher and smashed up thousands of pounds worth of equipment. 'He also swears and uses vile language towards my daughter and others. I'm at the stage where I'm considering going to the police as the council and school are doing nothing. 'Her anxiety is through the roof about going back to school. We are speaking to a GP this week for help and advice in regards to what we can do. 'I am an NHS worker and have had to take a long period of time off work to support my child with her needs with the ongoing issues.' Our sister title Edinburgh Live previously reported on violence at the same school. They told how a boy had targeted another girl over the course of the 2024/25 academic year. The mother, who we chose not to name to protect her daughter's identity, has said her nine-year-old has been observed to have PTSD symptoms and suffer from anxiety as well as incontinence as a result of the multiple alleged attacks. On three occasions the attempt to strangle her daughter took place in school with another two taking place at the after school club which the parent has since removed her daughter from. An image shared at the time of reporting showed red marks on the young girl's neck. She also raised concerns about the young boy being found to have snapped cutlery items which were sharpened to points in his school tray at the end of the school year. 'There have been three instances of her being strangled at school and two at the after school club by the same boy,' she claimed. 'After the first incident we were told preventative steps were put in place but it keeps happening. 'On the second occasion I got a call from the deputy head telling me another boy had pinned her down while the same boy strangled her. I was then assured they would be separated and I was confident something would be done as staff seemed understanding. That was until it happened again.' A Midlothian council spokesman said: 'As we would always advise, families should work with the school. We do not comment on individual cases.'

The attack comes after a significant rise in sexual assaults in swimming pools reported in Germany PARK HORROR Lost girl, 6, sexually assaulted at major waterpark after stranger 'offered to help her before dragging her into woods' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SIX-year-old girl was sexually assaulted after getting separated from her parents at a water park - with the depraved perpetrator still on the run. The horrifying ordeal took place when the suspect approached the child offering to help - but then dragged her to the woods before sexually abusing her. The facility, run by Europa-park, is located in Rust, Baden-Württemberg, near the French border. German police said the sick attack took place on Saturday, August 9, L'Alsace reported. After sexually abusing her, the suspect reportedly left her alone in the woods. She was then found by a local passerby around 10pm the same day. The area she was discovered in was about 5km from the water park, and she was only wearing a swimsuit. The suspect is reportedly a 31-year-old Romanian national. He was living in the local region at the time of the attack, reports say. Cops are desperately continuing their manhunt for the suspect. And they put out an appeal for any information that may lead to his arrest. I was sexually assaulted hundreds of feet in air while on paraglide ride during Tunisia holiday… I felt violated and dirty Police said: "Anyone present in Rulantica or in the wooded area north of the park on Saturday between 8:20 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. who may have noticed the presence of the man and the girl should contact the German authorities." The beloved Rulantica water park can hold a maximum of 6,000 visitors per day. It comes after there were reportedly hundreds of reports of sexual assaults in public swimming pools in Germany - in what has been called an epidemic. In one of the worst hit regions, 74 alleged attacks have been recorded recently with several involving children - including eight young girls in one day. The issue started to raise questions across Germany after a concerning number of reports were made in June. Cops arrested four Syrian suspects, aged 18 to 28, the next month and accused them of sexually assaulting up to eight girls in a public swimming pool in Hesse. The victims were aged between 11 to 16 and had all been at the Barbarossabad pool on the same day. Criminal charges were filed against all of the suspects, who were also been banned from the pool following the harrowing incident.
