The Big Dance is almost here. Will any of Philly's Big 5 be in it?
Why it matters: It's looking like a long shot any Philly-area teams make the NCAA Tournament this year.
We know, we know. Officially, we gotta wait for Selection Sunday. But here's the rundown for Philly's Big 5:
Villanova
It's double-bubble toil and trouble for 'Nova's men's team. The Wildcats lost to the Huskies 73-56 in Thursday's Big East Tournament quarterfinals.
The Wildcats are projected as one of the final eight teams (the double-bubble, as they say) out of this year's tourney, per ESPN. It'd mark their third year in a row missing the Big Dance.
The Villanova women's (18-14 overall) lost to powerhouse UConn in the semifinals of the Big East Tournament.
😢 The Wildcats aren't on ESPN's radar.
Temple
The Owls' chances of making the tourney are looking grim after they lost to Tulsa on Thursday in the American Athletic Conference tourney.
Temple hasn't been to the Big Dance since since 2019.
Temple women's team lost to Rice for the second straight year in the AAC semifinals.
The Owls were 20-11 overall, but they're not a bubble team, per ESPN.
The bottom line: Lookin' like another fowl season for Hooter and co.
Drexel
Drexel's men are done after they were bounced in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association tourney.
Meanwhile, Drexel women are still alive, squaring off against Monmouth Friday at 2:30pm.
They were our only hope last year. Will history repeat itself?
University of Pennsylvania
Here's all you need to know about the men's team: Their head coach was handed walking papers after nine seasons following his team's season-ending loss to Princeton.
The Quakers won only eight games and missed the Ivy League tourney for the second year.
The women's team faces top-seeded Columbia in the semifinals of the Ivy League tourney at 4:30pm Friday.
Columbia won both regular-season matchups.
St. Joseph's University
Sixth-seeded St. Joe's men's team hasn't won the Atlantic 10 tourney since 2016, it's looking to change that after defeating La Salle 75-70 on Thursday. Up next: Dayton on Friday at 7:30pm.
No. 6 seeds have fared well in the A-10, winning three of the last five tourneys.
The women lost out on an automatic bid after dropping the A-10 title game to George Mason.
La Salle University
As for the La Salle men: After that loss to the Hawks, cue Steph Curry's "night, night."
Ditto for the women after losing last week to Dayton.

Northwestern OT Caleb Tiernan moving up NFL Draft boards
It's back to school season, and that means back to football. As a new season dawns, we look at another player that is about to break out and enter the top tier of draft prospects. Northwestern is coming off a 4-8 season, and they're projected to not really be much better this season. However, they have a top talent on both sides of the line. It's hard to find a college football practice field with a more scenic backdrop, as the Wildcats work out everyday at the same place they temporarily play their home games- Northwestern Medicine Field. On the picturesque shores of beautiful Lake Michigan, there might be a ferocious individual battle going on between stellar offensive tackle Caleb Tiernan and elite edge rusher Anto Saka. Tiernan, a 6-7, 329 pound senior OT, and Detroit Country Day School graduate with stratospheric potential, is #30 on CBS's big board. At NFL Mock Draft Database, he's listed at #60. As a former four star recruit, the Livonia, MI native chose NU over the Big Ten's big three from the former East division: Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. We'll see how the season, and then later the draft exploration process shapes out, but as of right now, Tiernan and Saka would likely go very high. The bar has been set for Northwestern performances at the the NFL Draft. That came in 2021, when they had not just one, but two first round picks, for the first time in school history: offensive lineman Rashawn Slater went 13th overall to the Los Angeles Chargers while cornerback Greg Newsome II was taken 26th overall by the Cleveland Browns.

Report: New York Giants' Malik Nabers dealing with back issue
New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers has been sidelined since August 6 with an injury that was only recently revealed to be unrelated to his toe or shoulder. During the latest Breaking Big Blue podcast, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported that Nabers' injury was minor, but there is a concern with the number of issues piling up. "I heard from a source that it's not a toe injury. It's a different injury than the toe and the shoulder," Raanan said. "It's a very minor thing, and he'll be good. "It definitely doesn't seem like it's bad, but it's another minor injury for Malik Nabers. Maybe it's not serious now, but it's certainly something when all these little knocks keep piling up -- it does seem to be something we have to keep an eye on moving forward." Raanan now reports that Nabers is dealing with a minor back issue and should be good to go come Week 1 against the Washington Commanders. New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers hasn't practiced in 11 days while dealing with what multiple sources told ESPN was a minor back problem. One source characterized it as "normal camp tightness." Nabers suited up for the team's final practice last week but did not participate. It's unlikely he will play on Thursday night in the preseason finale against the New England Patriots and will then have just over two weeks to prepare for Week 1. The Giants are simply being overly cautious with their top talent, ensuring that he will be able to play without restriction when the regular season starts.
