Pedro Neto, Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves were emotional during their respective FIFA Club World Cup matches after the passing of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.
Al-Hilal players Ruben Neves and João Cancelo were inconsolable and broke down during a minute's silence in honour of their Portuguese teammate
Diogo Jota
and his brother Andre Silva who died in a car crash on Thursday.
The minute's silence was held during the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final match against Fluminense FC.
In the day's second quarter-final, Chelsea's Pedro Neto carried a special shirt mentioning the names of Diogo and Andre while walking towards the pitch.
The match marked the trio's first appearance since learning about the tragic incident in Spain involving their longtime teammate from Portugal.
Neves and Cancelo were visibly emotional during the pre-match tributes, with Cancelo needing to pause and kneel on the grass when images of Jota and Andre appeared on the screen.
Jota shared a significant history with both Neves and Cancelo, having played together for over six years in Portugal and celebrating a Nations League triumph. Neves and Jota also played together at Wolves in the Premier League before Jota's transfer to Liverpool in 2020.
Al-Hilal's head coach Simone Inzaghi addressed the emotional impact of the situation on his players, stating: "We all know it's a very sad day because of what happened to Diogo and André.

These things should never happen. We're all aware of the tragedy. We have two Portugal players Rúben Neves and João Cancelo who were friends to them. Today has been a very difficult day for all of us. We tried to work in the same way but the atmosphere was different.
It's a very, very sad tragedy."
Neves shared his feelings through an emotional Instagram post: "Wherever you are, I know you'll read this. We've never been that stupid and maybe now I regret it a little, but you know what you mean to me as much as I know what I mean to you… Life brought us together and now it can't separate us. We've achieved beautiful things together, we still have a lot to achieve, I know we'll make it. Starting today, you'll enter the field with me, and we'll follow our path together, on the stage where we met.
Diogoal, you are my favorite lemonade!!"
The match concluded with Al-Hilal losing 2-1 to Fluminense, eliminating them from the Club World Cup competition.

Kyle Shanahan's epic rooftop football throw into a pizza oven goes viral again

Shanahan's viral spiral hits the mark again (Image via AP) San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan may be heading into a crucial training camp, but fans are once again buzzing about a throw made far from any football field. A video clip from 2021 resurfaced this week, showing Shanahan casually launching a football into a pizza oven at a rooftop party—sparking fresh buzz across social media. The perfectly placed throw, captured during the offseason, continues to impress fans and players with its unreal precision. A holiday throw that's still earning praise The viral video features Shanahan standing beside former 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley, a longtime team veteran, during an Independence Day celebration. While most coaches unwind with barbecue or fireworks, Shanahan took aim at a new target: a backyard pizza oven. The moment has now become an unexpected fan-favorite—part athletic feat, part party trick. As the clip recirculated this week, it reminded fans of the coach's surprising accuracy off the field. In a press conference held later that summer, Shanahan gave reporters the full story behind the throw. 'Well, since you asked, I'll describe it all. We were just messing around. It was the Fourth of July, and we were up there. We were on my buddy's rooftop, and we had a football, and I just felt like I could throw at the time.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top Public Speaking Course for Children Planet Spark Book Now Undo 'I was asking everyone where they wanted me to throw it, and they said, 'That pizza oven right over there.' And I go, 'I'm going to hit this. Film this.' And they go, 'Yeah, right.' But I hit it somehow. My best athletic moment of my life." A coach's unexpected precision beyond the playbook spotlight For Shanahan, the offseason moment may have been pure fun, but fans see it as another testament to his cool under pressure—and surprising arm strength. Though he's known for his sharp play-calling and offensive mind, this off-script highlight reel is earning him points for precision beyond the Xs and Os. I actually said to Brooky at the time, 'Is it a hat-trick ball?' I didn't even know he'd got out first ball," Smith told Sky Sports before day four's play. Smith explained his batting approach during his impressive innings, highlighting the favorable batting conditions he had observed while keeping wickets. Harry Brook press conference: On Yashasvi Jaiswal DRS controversy, India bowling, getting out on 99 "I knew it was a good wicket having stood behind the stumps for 150 overs and it was about putting India under pressure. In that situation you can prod and poke a bit and get bowled out for 200 but I didn't think that was the way to go about things." "It was about putting my foot down and showing we can push back from any situation. You have those days, very few in a season, where everything seems to hit the middle of the bat. Your inside edges weren't going on to the stumps, your outside edges went into gaps. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nhà tiền chế 2025: Lựa chọn nhà ở giá cả phải chăng (Xem ngay) Nomad's Notebook Nhấp vào đây Undo You have to ride that and keep things simple." Poll Do you believe this Test match will have a lasting impact on Jamie Smith's career? Yes, it will boost his confidence No, it's just one game It depends on future performances Despite the strong partnership between Smith and Brook, India maintained control of the match, securing a 180-run lead before reaching 64/1 in 13 overs at stumps on day three, extending their lead to 244 runs. Smith reflected on the unusual nature of the Test match and the playing conditions. "It's been a strange Test, some big scores and some low scores. The majority of wickets have been taken by the new ball and then the pitch gets nice to bat on. India got a bit away from us last night but we were hunting for wickets – we don't want to let the game drift."
