Owners of landmark Wexford hotel move to address ‘upsetting false rumours' circulating in recent weeks

Whispers around town for a number of weeks now were that, after more than 60 years, the Whitty family had decided to sell the landmark hotel, with a larger hotel chain rumoured to be in talks around a purchase.
As it turns out, these rumours are wide of the mark and the family was devastated to hear that they had gained any traction in the first place.
"We wish to take time out today to address some of the very upsetting false rumours circulating that Whitford is up for sale and now sold,' a statement said.
"To clarify, this rumour is untrue. Whitford was established in 1964. It has been part of the Wexford community for over 61 years and that is something that we are justly proud of. We look forward to a third generation of the Whitty family running and managing this wonderful family-run hotel and it has been the privilege of our lifetime to be part of your lives and to have shared so many of your special memories. We look forward to sharing many more.'
The statement from the owners went on to thank the 'incredible' staff at the hotel and stated that it's 'business as usual' going forward.
'We look forward to welcoming you in the future,' they concluded. 'Enjoy the Fleadh, what an honour it is to host Fleadh Ceoil na hEireann 2025 in our home County of Wexford, wishing success to all.'

Irish Rail to put on additional services to Wexford during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann

The announcement which is due this week comes amid criticism from South East on Track that no extra services have yet been announced. South East on Track who advocate and campaign for better rail services in the region said: 'Last year, 50 additional services were put in place to bring people to and from Wexford for the week. There were similar additional services put in place for previous Fleadhs in Mullingar and Drogheda. 'Even this far out, many of the Wexford-Dublin services are beginning to book out for the Fleadh week. It's clear that the demand is there for far more services than five per weekday, and three at the weekends.' With estimates that the Fleadh could bring almost 700,000 people to Wexford, the group is calling on Irish Rail to provide more services in an 'environmentally friendly manner'. When contacted Irish Rail's Head of Corporate Communications Barry Kenny said: 'We are working to arrange additional services for the Fleadh, as we did last year, and hope to be in a position to confirm service arrangements as early as possible this week. We had a very successful range of additional services last year and look forward to doing so again this year. 'Throughout the summer, we have sporting events, concerts and festivals week in week out, and provide additional services for these wherever possible.'
