Coimbatore- based jewellery shop owner robbed of gold worth 1.3crore, luxury car

oimbatore: A five-member unidentified gang robbed a Kerala-based jewellery shop owner of gold bars worth 1.32 crore and his luxury car near KG Chavadi here on Saturday morning.
Police have formed five special teams to nab the gang.
According to the KG Chavadi police, the incident occurred when Jaison Jacob, 55, of Thrissur in Kerala, and his employee Vishnu, 20, of the same locality, were returning to their hometown with 1.25 kilograms of gold bars that they bought from Chennai.
A police officer said Jacob was running a jewellery store and gold ornament making unit in Thrissur. "He regularly travels to Chennai to purchase gold bars from various jewellery shops.
After one such visit to Chennai, Jacob and his employee reached Coimbatore by train on Saturday. From the city railway station, the duo left for Thrissur via Palakkad Road in a luxury car. When they neared a petrol bunk at Ettimadai around 7am, a truck suddenly blocked their path.
A five-member gang then broke the car window and threatened Jaison with weapons, demanding gold."
Jaison, the officer said, told them that gold bars were kept under the car seat.

"The assailants took the gold bars and drove away the car. On the way, they forced Jaison and Vishnu out of the car."
Jaison and Vishnu reported the incident to the KG Chavadi police, who rushed to the spot and began an investigation.
"The gang members spoke Malayalam and are believed to be from Thrissur. It appears that the gang was aware that Jaison was transporting gold. They used the truck to block the road and had a clear plan to steal the gold and the car," the officer said.
District superintendent of police Karthikeyan said they had collected CCTV footage and formed five special teams to nab the five-member gang.

Ahmedabad plane crash: Identities of 31 victims ascertained through DNA tests
AHMEDABAD: Authorities have so far identified 31 victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad through DNA testing and 12 families have claimed the mortal remains so far, an official said on Sunday. The process of DNA matching of former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani was also underway, Dr Rajnish Patel, professor of surgery at the government-run B J Medical College here said. As many as 230 teams were formed to coordinate with the victims' families, officials earlier said. The victims included 241 of the 242 passengers and crew members on board the London-bound flight.
