Laia Aleixandri returns to Barcelona
The Spanish defender initially came through the Barça academy before making her breakthrough with Atlético de Madrid.

Manchester City signed Aleixandri in the summer of 2022 with the player going on to feature 87 times for the Citizens, scoring three times (including in the 2-2 Manchester derby draw at Old Trafford towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign) and assisting five.
Barcelona have now confirmed the arrival of the player who signs a contract until 2029. The Catalan side once again dominated domestically last season but ultimately lost the Champions League final to Arsenal back in May.
Aleixandri was one of City's better performers in what was overall a disappointing season. No other player in the WSL made as many touches of the ball as the 24-year-old (1,777) while she also ranked second for progressive passes (156).

Aston Villa targets young Spanish fullback from Barcelona
Aston Villa targets young Spanish fullback from Barcelona originally appeared on The Sporting News During Barcelona's summer pre-season tour of Asia, manager Hansi Flick has shifted his lineup to comply with La Liga's registration limits, which may leave a couple players, such as 19-year old fullback Hector Fort, searching for playing time elsewhere. When FCB starting centerback Pau Cubarsi went down with an injury in the waning minutes of the club's friendly against Deagu FC, Fort was chosen to fill his spot in the lineup, though he's usually deployed as a proper fullback. In all, Fort accumulated just over 45 minutes of action during the pre-season, and he's at a crucial age where gaining on-field experience is of paramount importance. This has led to the possibility of Fort leaving Barcelona on loan, and several major clubs have shown interest. As of late, however, Aston Villa of the English Premier League has extended overtures to the young Spanish defender in hopes of securing his transfer on a permanent deal. According to Barcelona reporter Lucia Font, Villa have placed a 15 million Euro evaluation on the steady-passing fullback and will be progressing towards a transfer in the coming days. With Barcelona's affinity for injecting youth into its lineup, Fort featured in 17 matches last season with five starts to his credit. During that time, Fort ranked as one of the most accurate defenders in all of La Liga, checking in at the 98th percentile for passes completed and passing accuracy per 90 minutes. After Barcelona's 5-0 rout of Daegu FC on Aug. 4, Flick offered an encouraging message about Fort's development, though he did not indicate what the fullback's future would hold. 'I'm happy with what I saw from Hector Fort,' Flick told Football Espana. 'He trained well and played well the other day. Asia has been a very important part of the preseason for me, and there are ten more days left before we play against Mallorca.' Tottenham Hotspur Set Their Sights On This Barcelona Midfielder: Should Frank Bring Him On Board?
In a recent report, AS revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado this summer. It has been stated that Spurs could move in for the Spanish talent if the Catalan club makes him available in this transfer window. The 21-year-old was a good squad player for Barca last season when he produced a string of impressive displays for them in La Liga. Casado scored once and picked up six assists in 36 matches for the Catalan outfit in the previous campaign across all fronts. The Spanish sensation anchored the midfield well as he made 44 tackles, 20 blocks and 22 interceptions in La Liga. He was careful when distributing the ball from midfield after making 89.3% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top flight (stats via His current contract at the Nou Camp will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, it won't be easy for Tottenham to sign him on the cheap this off-season. MADRID, SPAIN – OCTOBER 26: Marc Casado of FC Barcelona passes the ball whilst under pressure from Federico Valverde of Real Madrid during the LaLiga match between Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on October 26, 2024 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by) Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank Bring Casado On Board? Casado is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn't mind putting his foot through the ball when required and is an accurate passer from midfield. The Spanish talent can chip in by picking up his fair share of assists. However, he needs to add more goals to his game if he wants to be a consistent performer at the highest level. Casado is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. However, there are some question marks over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League. Still, we can expect him to inject more quality into Tottenham boss Thomas Frank's midfield. At 21, Casado has the potential to be a future star in the Premier League. Hence, it makes sense for the North London club to try everything they can to bring him on board in this summer transfer period.

Barcelona summer signing set to miss 8-10 weeks with injury
La Liga giants Barcelona have on Tuesday announced an early fitness setback for a member of the club's summer recruitment list. The player in question? Roger Martínez. Youngster Martínez was for his part snapped up by Barcelona last month, after the expiration of his contract terms with Catalan rivals Espanyol. The midfielder, in turn, went on to make his debut in Blaugrana colours over the weekend, in Barca Atlètic's friendly meeting with L'Escala. Early on, however, disaster struck for Martínez. After going to ground clutching his shoulder, it quickly became clear that the 21-year-old was in no fit state to continue. Martínez was in turn hauled off, before being put through a round of medical scans and tests. And as alluded to above, on Tuesday, the results of as much have been revealed. In an early blow for Barca Atlètic ahead of the new campaign, it has been confirmed that: 'The tests conducted have shown that Barça Atlètic player Roger Martínez has a glenohumeral dislocation of the left shoulder. He will undergo conservative treatment, with an expected recovery time of between 8 and 10 weeks.' Conor Laird – GSFN
