Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey help introduce Nike Giannis Freak 7 in commercial
Harper and Bailey helped promote the release of the Freak 7, the latest signature shoe created for the two-time NBA MVP with a new 'ANTETOKOUNMPO' traction pattern. The installment is expected to be available globally online and in select retail locations on July 29.
The two players signed name, image and likeness deals with Nike last year at Rutgers. They are among several first-round picks who have signed with a brand, joining Cooper Flagg (New Balance), VJ Edgecombe (Adidas) and Kon Knueppel (Jordan Brand), among others.
Harper debuted with the Spurs in the NBA Summer League, averaging 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal on 35.7% shooting from the field. The No. 2 pick dealt with a minor groin injury and was shut down by the team after two appearances.
Bailey, the fifth pick, posted averages of 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists with the Jazz in the Salt Lake City Summer League. Like Harper, he was limited to two appearances because of a hip injury and didn't suit up for the team in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After strong freshman campaigns with the Scarlet Knights, Harper and Bailey established themselves as top-five picks this year. They enter the upcoming season with tremendous hype and will do so, having appeared in a new commercial for Nike.

'I came in-house in 1998,' Manfred said. 'We haven't had a work stoppage that affected a season since that time. Three of those deals, I was the chief negotiator. Two of them, I was the commissioner. That's a pretty good record. And, you know, I think we can do it again.' Harper is in the middle of a 13-year, $330 million contract, a massive investment that helped revitalize the Philadelphia franchise. It is also the kind of long-term megadeal that would be even harder for a star player to secure under a salary cap. One of the game's most recognizable players getting in the face of its commissioner is, at the very least, unusual. 'It was an individual picking a particular way to express himself,' Manfred said. 'And I don't think you need to make more out of that than that.'

Cooper Flagg is paying homage with Mavericks jersey number selection
After joining the Dallas Mavericks on June 25, No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg opted to return to his original jersey number worn up until last season at Duke. Flagg wore No. 32 at Nokomis Regional High School in Maine and the Montverde Academy in Central Florida. He was forced to change it to No. 2 when he began his freshman campaign in Durham, since it is retired to honor two-time NCAA champion Christian Laettner. The 18-year-old chose to don No. 2 with the Blue Devils to honor a friend who died from brain cancer in November 2022 at 19 years old. He made the switch back to No. 32 because his mother, Kelly, wore it while playing in high school. "My mom wore 32 when she was in high school, and that was always her number," Flagg said in a video posted by the Mavericks on X. "She had teammates in college that wore it, so she didn't wear it in college. She wore it in high school, so that's really why." Flagg was the AP national college player of the year after leading Duke to the Final Four, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks on 38.5% shooting from 3-point range. He became the 22nd player in program history to be a consensus first-team All-American. The 6-foot-8 Maine native debuted with the Mavericks in the NBA Summer League, averaging 20.5 points, five rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals on 35.7% shooting from the field. He produced 31 points in his second and final appearance on July 12. Flagg paid great homage to his high school friend at Duke with No. 2, and will now be playing in front of his mother, wearing her number again, beginning next season with the Mavericks.
