Box Office: Amid Karate Kid Legends, Jackie Chan says he'll be 100 making Rush Hour 4; revisiting the franchise's theatrical performance
As Jackie Chan gears up for another Karate Kid installment titled Karate Kid: Legends, debuting this Friday, the legendary martial artist is also eyeing a return in another beloved franchise, Rush Hour. The actor, now in his 70s, recently spoke with Screen Rant, where he joked that if things don't move fast, he and his co-star Chris Tucker will be 100 years old by the time Rush Hour 4 gets made.
'I don't know. Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer,' Chan told the publication when asked about the rumored sequel. 'Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We'll be old men doing Rush Hour.'
The last entry in the action-comedy series hit theaters in 2007. However, as far back as 2017, Chan had confirmed that both he and Tucker had agreed on a script for Rush Hour 4. Since then, development has remained a work in progress. Still, the duo's eagerness and enduring chemistry keep hopes alive for longtime fans.
The original Rush Hour, released in 1998, became an instant box office hit, grossing over USD 245 million worldwide on a USD 35 million budget. Its sequel, Rush Hour 2 (2001), proved even more successful, earning a staggering USD 347.4 million against a USD 90 million production cost. The third installment in 2007, though not as strong as its predecessor, still brought in USD 256.6 million worldwide.
Here's a breakdown of the franchise's box office performance:
Rush Hour: Opened with USD 33 million, earning USD 141.2 million domestically and USD 245 million globally.
Rush Hour 2: Debuted to USD 67.4 million, collecting USD 226.2 million in North America and USD 347 million worldwide.
Rush Hour 3: Opened with USD 49.1 million, finishing with USD 140.1 million domestically and USD 256.6 million globally.
In addition to Rush Hour 4, Chan expressed interest in reviving the Shanghai Noon franchise alongside Owen Wilson. Titled Shanghai Dawn, the sequel has reportedly been in development since 2016, with Jared Hess attached to direct.
While Chan continues to build his legacy with projects like Karate Kid: Legends, fans can't help but manifest one more Rush Hour installment with the iconic duo that redefined buddy cop comedies.

Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning Day 15 India Box Office: Franchise's struggles to hit blockbuster mark continues with Rs 70 lakh 2nd Monday
Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning has earned Rs 80.70 crore at the Indian box office by Day 17, a figure that falls short of the high expectations set by the franchise and its massive scale and star power. Speaking about the Tom Cruise starrer's exclusive second Monday haul, it pulled in Rs 70 lakh net, which can be defined as decent at most and well below what industry insiders, makers, and fans must've preferred. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the film is the eighth and final installment in the Mission Impossible series. It welcomes Cruise back as the iconic IMF agent Ethan Hunt, alongside his teammates played by Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett. The story revolves around Hunt and co. trying to stop a rogue AI called The Entity from unleashing global chaos. Though the film boasts a reported production budget of USD 300 to USD 400 million, its reception worldwide has been lukewarm. Industry experts are being cautious when quoting its lifetime figure, as it looks like the entry will have a tough time even breaking even at the box office. The aforementioned production cost, for the record, ballooned after schedule delays caused by the SAG-AFTRA strike and the scale of the endeavor, which required filming across locations like the UK, Malta, South Africa, and Norway. Marketing expenses also make up a large chunk of the cost. In India, it looks like franchise fatigue is keeping viewers from flocking to theaters. Competition from another Hollywood release, Final Destination: Bloodlines, could also be hurting MI8's run in the region. In conclusion, Mission: Impossible 8 remains a decent performer in India but misses the blockbuster mark it would have desired. If the current trajectory holds, The Final Reckoning may end up under Dead Reckoning's Rs 106 crore net in the market.

Karate Kid Legends Day 4 India Box Office: Jackie Chan-Ralph Macchio's martial arts film earns earns DISMAL Rs 50 lakh on 1st Monday
Sony Pictures' Karate Kid: Legends is off to a dim start in India, with the film failing to capitalize on the nostalgia factor or the global star power of Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio. After four days of release, the martial arts drama has just earned Rs 4.05 crore nett in the market, out of which Rs 50 lakh came from today's run. Despite being part of a beloved international franchise and featuring two iconic stars reprising their roles, the film's India run is proving underwhelming. The box office numbers reflected a sharp drop today, on day 4, with just Rs 50 lakh business—a significant fall from Sunday's already modest Rs 1.50 crore. The film's India collections are not very far off from its global performance, given it has only raked in Rs 47 million since its May 30 debut. Looks like the fans were expecting a more action-loaded and emotionally hooking effort. Here's a day-wise collection breakdown of Karate Kid: Legends' India box office: Directed by Jonathan Entwistle and written by Rob Lieber, Karate Kid: Legends serves as a continuation of both the 2010 reboot and the hit Netflix series Cobra Kai. While the film drew some attention for merging two different timelines of the decades-spanning saga, it is failing to appeal to audiences overall, including in India, where it is particularly struggling amid both local and international competition that continues to dominate screens and viewers' attention. The film stars Ben Wang in the lead as a new protege mentored by Mr. Han (Chan) and Daniel LaRusso (Macchio). The supporting cast includes Joshua Jackson, Sdaie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen. Karate Kid: Legends premiered in Mexico City earlier in May and was released globally on the aforementioned date. It has garnered mixed critical reviews, with experts praising the performances and nostalgic callbacks but disapproving of the predictable plot and pacing. With weekday numbers expected to dip further, the India leg of Karate Kid: Legends seems unlikely to recover. The film's performance may force studios to reassess the pull of legacy franchises in overseas markets and keep them running in territories where their runs are comparatively decent.
