'I solo travelled 5,000 miles across continent without spending a penny'
Courtney Allan hitchhiked from Guangzhou in China to the Russia-Mongolia border - a journey which took 50 days - and has described her method as "such a great way to see the world for free" A young woman has travelled 5,000 miles without spending a penny - by hitchhiking. Courtney Allan grabbed lifts from strangers to get from Guangzhou in China to the Russia-Mongolia border, a journey which took 50 days. Courtney, 26, says she feels "incredibly blessed", having seen some "beautiful countries" for free. 'It's (hitchhiking) becoming more common though, and it's such a great way to see the world for free... I feel incredibly blessed. Hitchhiking was so not normal for so long, it didn't even seem like an option," Courtney said. The Canadian native first experienced hitchhiking in the UK as, in late 2023, she found public transport too expensive to get around during a holiday here. During her three-week visit to the UK, Courtney was able to persuade a driver to give her a lift from Bath, Somerset into Wales. And she since used this method during a trip to Africa - travelling from Morocco to Cape Town - a distance of more than 8,000 miles, and has now completed the 5,000-mile trip - for free - in Asia. Courtney, from Toronto, said she has "not yet felt in danger". She continued: "When I think of who I am now, it's an exponential growth from who I was when I first visited the UK two years ago. "When you're hitchhiking, you're with the people who live in that country. You get a much more intimate experience. It's such a good way to meet local people and get the best things to do in a place. This isn't the stuff you see on TripAdvisor." Courtney, who documents her trips on her Instagram page @hitchhikercourtney, travelled through 16 countries to reach Cape Town on her African adventure. In that time, she said she spent less than $20 (£15) on transport, of which more than half was spent on a single ferry across the Congo River. But she didn't have to pay a penny on transport during her Asian journey, which saw her catch rides through China, north through Mongolia to the border of it and Russia. The journey started in May this year, ending this week. The social media influencer continued: "My budget would have gone up by thousands if I had been paying for transport." She added: "Women are often scared of going out into the world because of the risks. But there is a risk everywhere, every day, no matter what you're doing. You can't let them get the better of you. For me, the benefits of being able to explore the world outweigh those risks."

Check your rare coins for penny design worth eye-watering £200k
There's a possibility your coin stash is worth an absolute fortune – but only if you own this unique penny. One avid collector shared more information on his TikTok Your coin collection is about to make you richer. It's no secret certain rare coins are worth more than others. There's often change which could make you a lot of money, especially if you take it to auction or flog it on eBay. Now did you know there's a penny estimated to be worth £200,000? Over on TikTok, one avid collector revealed the "intriguing" coin which could be lingering in your pocket. The @coincollectingwizard boasts a mega 294,000 followers where he shares the most unique designs to look out for. Just previously, he mentioned the valuable change that could make you rich. And just a few days ago, he shared the £200,000 coin from 1952 which is the "rarest proof penny of the entire series of copper and bronze pennies". In the video, which scooped 500 likes and dozens of comments, he said: "This penny is estimated to sell for £200,000 at auction, do you have one? This is a UK penny from 1952, this intriguing proof coin is the rarest proof penny of the entire series of copper and bronze pennies." He continued: "The existence of this unique 1952 proof penny was not known publicly until its initial appearance at numismatic auction in October of 1997, some 45 years after it was struck. The British numismatic world was astonished to see this coin appear and in proof quality as this was not known to exist. "The 1952 proof penny remains an enigma as the only unique proof striking of a pre-decimal penny of the 20th century. It is perhaps understandable that George VI in 1952 proof penny remains a unique piece as the King died very early that year passing away on the February 6. It will go up for auction and is estimated to reach £200,000 if not more." Since it was posted on social media, it garnered a lot of attention from collectors who claimed to own the same coin. Others described the design as "nice", while others asked for advice on how to flog the coin. According to experts, the 1952 penny is a unique and highly valuable coin. Although no ordinary circulation pennies were struck in that year, a single proof penny was made. But it was not known to the public until 1997, where it appeared at auction. And today, this coin is dubbed the "numismatic unicorn". It's popular among collection due to its unique status and the fact it was struck during a period of royal transition – when King George VI died and Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne. It features a profile of King George VI on one side with the words "GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX FIDEI DEF". Meanwhile, on the reverse the words "ONE PENNY 1952" is written with Britannia seated. Just last year, the same coin turned heads among collectors where it was also worth the same price tag. Think you have one of these coins in your wallet? Leave us a comment below!

Flight attendant uncovers one 'disgusting' thing passengers skip before boarding
A veteran flight attendant has taken to TikTok to voice her biggest pet peeves, including one thing she thinks travellers should "go to prison" for A flight attendant is calling out passengers who break one etiquette rule. Taking to social media to air her frustration, she says passengers should not fly at all if they commit this one faux pas. On her TikTok account, cabin crew member Cher (@cherdallas), says she thinks travellers should 'go to prison' for not showering before getting on a plane. According to Cher, who is a six-year flight attendant, these are the worst kind of travellers. 'There is zero reason that I should be smelling a stranger's body odour Wash yourself. You are going to be shoulder to shoulder with strangers. Show up clean or don't come at all.' In the comments, one user agreed, saying: 'A shower plus clean clothes together will stop the stench. If it's transatlantic with a layover, change into a different clean shirt and use a wet paper towel on your torso in the bathroom stall.' However some users were quick to point out that travel issues like cancelled flights and running through the airport might be the reason some show up less than fresh. One user wrote: 'The body odor thing is absolute. However if they are on this flight [because] another was cancelled or something and they had to sleep at the airport maybe hand out body wipes'. Another chimed in: 'Ever had to run 20 minutes to a connecting flight with luggage in tow? You'll sweat, my dear, and there may be an odour.' To this Cher says there is an easy fix. 'Wear deodorant ?? It's pretty simple, it works in a preventative way,' she wrote in response. But body odour isn't the only thing that Cher thinks should be '100 percent against the law' on planes. She lists a number of pet peeves that passengers are guilty of, including one that's sure to annoy most passengers: playing videos or music out loud from their device. According to Cher: 'It is no one else's problem except yours that you didn't charge you AirPods or you didn't bring headphones. 'Why are you making it everyone else's problem around you?' She continues: 'I don't care if your kid is gonna cry that they can't listen to cocomelon on full blast. That is less annoying than hearing it off of their iPad.' Her other gripe is actually aimed at flight attendants, not passengers. She calls out her fellow colleagues for making 'a bunch of unnecessary announcements'. She said while she understands that the profession draws in extroverted people who like meeting new people, talking can be done in-person instead of over the speaker system. That said, she acknowledges that not all announcements are unnecessary. 'There are basic ones that we are required to make. I simply don't agree with putting on a whole production unless you are on super fun afternoon flight.'
