Acaciavale Primary School would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the local SAPS for visiting the school to speak to their learners about extremely important topics that affect us all.
The discussions – on bullying, the importance of attending school, and assault – were enlightening and thought-provoking; and the school appreciates the time the officers took to engage with the learners.
'It's heartening to see our community come together to support the well-being and education of our young people. We recognise that these issues are not just school problems, but societal ones that require a collective effort to address. As a school, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all our learners, and we are grateful for the police service's contribution to this effort. We also acknowledge that there is always room for growth and improvement, and we will continue to work together with our community to ensure that our learners feel safe, supported and empowered to succeed.

Wedela SAPS educates learners on child safety during National Child Protection Week
In commemoration of National Child Protection Week, observed from May 29 to June 5, members of the Wedela SAPS extended their support and educational efforts to local schoolchildren. The initiative was led by Sergeant Zikhona Sifuba, Social Crime Prevention Officer, who was accompanied by Sergeant Matsietsi from the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. The team visited Wedela Primary School, where they engaged with learners from Grades 1 to 3, delivering vital information on child safety and abuse prevention. They were joined by dedicated staff from Wedela's Victim Friendly Room (VFR): Hazel Nyembezi, Dimpho Lehoko, Thato Mogole, Athandile Sihlwayi, Tsogo Seleke, and Lubabalo Peyi. 'The purpose of the visit was to talk to the learners about child abuse and how they should protect themselves,' said Sgt. Sifuba. 'Most importantly, they must know they can report such cases, even if it's their uncle, father, brother, or neighbour who is touching them in a way they don't like.' The outreach impacted 244 learners, with the team encouraging them to speak to their teachers or ask for help in contacting the police if they felt unsafe or experienced any form of abuse. The session empowered children with the knowledge that their voices matter and that help is always available. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote awareness and ensure the safety and well-being of all children in the community. Mpumalanga Police launch manhunt after on-duty cop gunned down
Mpumalanga police launched a manhunt for suspects following the fatal shooting of an on-duty police officer in Phakane, Pienaar, on Friday. Const Donald Mathebula, 34, was found inside his private vehicle in uniform when police arrived at the scene. He was rushed to the hospital, and he was declared dead on arrival. Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lt-Col Jabu Ndubane said preliminary investigations suggested the deceased stopped at a tuckshop when three suspects armed with firearms and wearing balaclavas approached and shot him. 'The member drove his vehicle in an attempt to flee. He was shot, the vehicle lost control, hit a tree, and the car came to a standstill, and nothing was taken. 'The vehicle had bullet holes on the rear side and the right side of the window. The three suspects fled the scene,' said Ndubane. She said the deceased was identified as Constable Donald Mathebula, who was stationed at Pienaar police station, serving under the visible policing unit. He had served the South African Police Service for ten years. 'It is believed Mathebula was ambushed and fatally shot by the suspects while visiting the area. The motive of the attack is not known yet, and police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing' . Acting provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Maj-Gen Zeph Mkhwanazi, has mobilised a 72-hour activation plan to ensure that all necessary resources are deployed to trace and arrest the perpetrators Police have asked anyone with information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects to contact the nearest police station. Tip-offs can also be reported anonymously via crime stop number on 08600 10111 or through the MYSAPS App. Meanwhile, Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security, and liaison, Jackie Macie, called members of the public who have any clues on the suspects' whereabouts to come forward and report to the police. Macie said police should spare no effort in ensuring that the suspects are swiftly brought to book. 'In honouring the memory of the deceased and many other members who have lost their lives to criminals, the police must urgently arrest the suspects. Members must remain relentless in their efforts to serve and protect communities. 'They should not be deterred by attacks on their colleagues. Those who attack law enforcement officers, whether on or off duty, are attacking the state and therefore such individuals must be harshly punished,' said Macie.

Limpopo police bust R3m cross-border smuggling ring bound for Malawi
Limpopo police have dismantled a sophisticated cross-border smuggling syndicate operating between South Africa and Malawi, recovering stolen goods worth more than R3m. Polokwane Review reports that the breakthrough came in the early hours of Thursday morning when the Limpopo Anti-Smuggling Task Team, assisted by Tshimollo Security and Investigation and Shadow Secure Technology, intercepted a Scania truck pulling superlink trailers near the Polokwane weighbridge. The vehicle was travelling from Cape Town to Malawi via the Beitbridge Border Post. Following an 18-hour joint operation, officers recovered: Chopped parts of a Ford Ranger reported stolen in Nyanga, including the engine, dashboard, radiator, differential and steering wheel 60 disassembled motorcycles concealed in drums and containers, reported stolen at various Western Cape police stations, including Bellville, Mfuleni, Muizenberg, Nyanga, Milnerton, Sea Point and Athlone Stolen electronics, including plasma TVs, sound systems, solar tower batteries and cellphones Scania truck and trailers used in the smuggling operation. Four men, all foreign nationals aged between 37 and 50, were arrested and are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of possession of suspected stolen goods. Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the arrests. 'This breakthrough represents a major victory against sophisticated criminal networks exploiting our borders. The collaboration between our task team and private partners shows the power of co-ordinated enforcement. We will continue to target these syndicates until they are dismantled completely.'
