Celebrities Sign Letter Opposing Cuts to Medicaid, SNAP: Full List
More than 30 prominent figures from the entertainment industry have signed an open letter urging Congress to reject deep cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid.
The letter, published by nonprofit organization Feeding America on June 25, described the proposals as "unacceptable and wrong" while warning that millions of Americans rely on these programs for basic food security and health care. It includes signatures from the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Matt Damon, and former One Direction star Zayn Malik.
Newsweek reached out to Feeding America for comment via its website outside of regular working hours.
The proposed reductions to SNAP and Medicaid form part of a Republican-led legislative package making its way through Congress, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
If enacted, these cuts could result in millions losing access to food assistance and health care, with an estimated 7.6 million at risk of losing Medicaid coverage and SNAP losing 9.5 billion meals per year.
Led by a diverse array of actors, musicians, and entertainment professionals, the open letter urges lawmakers to protect federal food aid and health care for the most vulnerable.
The letter reads: "Food is a beautiful way humans show care, compassion, and love... It's a fundamental part of the human experience and a basic right we all deserve."

The proposal introduces new work requirements of 80 hours per month for many adult recipients of Medicaid and SNAP, extending to individuals up to age 65. Parents with children over the age of 10 would need to work to remain eligible for food assistance, while those with teenage children would also be subject to the Medicaid work mandate.
It also proposes shifting some of the cost of SNAP benefits to state budgets, which many governors have warned is unaffordable.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the Medicaid changes could cause up to 10.9 million Americans to lose coverage, and new SNAP rules could result in 4 million fewer people having access to food benefits.
The cuts are included as part of a larger effort to offset the costs of making President Donald Trump-era tax cuts permanent.
Congress is expected to vote on the package in the coming weeks, with a deadline set for July 4.
The Senate is expected to revise several parts of the legislation before holding a final vote. If any changes are approved, the bill will be sent back to the House for another vote.

Netflix had initially been unsure of how to proceed with the release of 'Building the Band,' which was filmed shortly before Payne's death last year at age 31. In a press release sent to HuffPost, the streaming network said Payne's family had 'reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion.' Payne died Oct. 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A toxicology report later concluded that the singer had multiple substances in his system at the time of his death, including cocaine, crack cocaine and benzodiazepines. The report also indicated the presence of 'pink cocaine,' which refers to a cocktail of drugs that can include substances like ketamine, MDMA, methamphetamine and sometimes caffeine or opioids. 'Building the Band' will mark an on-screen reunion between Payne and Scherzinger, who is credited alongside record executive and TV personality Simon Cowell with the formation of One Direction in 2010. Scherzinger, who earlier this month nabbed a Tony Award for her performance in Broadway's 'Sunset Boulevard,' had reportedly been exchanging texts with Payne on the morning of his death. Rosie O'Donnell told former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo that she was 'very depressed' and 'overdrinking' following President Donald Trump's first election victory in 2016 on 'The Chris Cuomo Project' podcast on Tuesday. O'Donnell revealed that she left the United States for Ireland out of a sense of 'self-preservation' after Trump's second election victory, considering the difficulties she experienced after his first win in 2016. 'During his first go-round, it was very difficult, and I got myself into some bad places. You know, I was very, very depressed. I was overeating. I was overdrinking … I was so depressed, Chris,' she told the former cable host. She also shared that it hurt her heart to know that Americans 'believed the lies' of Trump and, furthermore, that she worked in a business that 'sells those lies for profit.' MCU Star Asked For Name To Be Removed From 'Thunderbolts' Credits
The Marvel Cinematic Universe delivered a well-received hit with Thunderbolts , an unexpected result given the uncertainty surrounding the title. And, while the movie is enjoying a successful response from viewers, not everyone wanted to be credited. In fact, one MCU star asked for their name to be removed from the credits featured in Thunderbolts . The film features a number of major stars, most of whom appeared in previous MCU projects, including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Pierce, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. As such, it's a film known for its cast, and one would assume everyone would want to be credited alongside these stars. As shared with Interview magazine, however, the actor explained why they asked to have their credits removed. This was revealed when they sat down to speak with cast member David Harbour who previously starred in the previous MCU project Black Widow . The cast member that spoke with Harbour, Scarlett Johansson, shared the following response when Harbour asked if she saw the film, noting that she's 'all over this movie' and responded with the following when she said she hadn't: 'OK. You are an executive producer on it. Congratulations.' Johansson added that she 'asked to have my credit removed,' specifically because of her lack of creative input, noting that 'I wasn't involved.' It's certainly a surprising response from the Black Widow star, especially knowing that she's played her character in numerous MCU projects going back to some of the earliest films in the franchise. Nevertheless, Thunderbolts does make another nice send-off for the character, even if she wasn't creatively involved or mentioned in the credits. Whether or not she'll receive other chances to work on the MCU remains to be seen, though it's unlikely that she'll reprise her role as Black Widow, which she insists in the interview has been completed.
