Former Gator Alijah Martin among college hoops coaches' 2025 NBA draft sleepers

USA Today23-06-2025
The 2025 NBA draft is just a few days away, and while the Gator Nation feels confident that at least one of the members of this season's men's basketball national championship team — guard Walter Clayton Jr. — will be among those selected, there is another who lurks in the shadows who should be selected as well.
Florida's guard Alijah Martin, who transferred to UF from the Florida Atlantic Owls during the previous offseason, is the other former member of the program expected to be picked at the end of this week after Rueben Chinyelu and Alex Condon decided to return to school. There is also fellow backcourt swingman Will Richard who is hoping to hear his name called, but Martin appears to be a better bet.
Well, at least according to a handful of college basketball coaches surveyed by The Athletic's CJ Moore, who suggested that the title-winning Gators guard could go at No. 43 in the draft. However, the overall outlook for Martin is not terribly optimistic.
Florida guard Alijah Martin (No. 43)
"He's going to be a G-League guy. He's a 6-2 small forward, and I just don't think that really translates in the NBA," Moore offers. "The one thing that could be said about him is that he's a winner. He's been to two Final Fours, won a national championship, and so he impacts winning on both ends of the floor."
Alijah Martin's 2024-25 campaign highlights
Martin was a key member of Florida's roster during his lone season in Gainesville, averaging a career-high 14.4 points per game along with 4.5 rebounds, 82 assists and 79 3-point field goals. He started 36 of his 38 appearances with the Orange and Blue, and his 546 points rank 17th in Florida history in a single season and the third-most by a transfer.
His efforts helped him become the first player to start in a Final Four for two different teams.

Boston Celtics sign Ron Harper Jr. to training camp deal

As we edge closer to the start of the 2025-26 NBA season, teams are starting to prepare for training camp and preseason. This is the point in the summer when players begin to sign Exhibit 10 contracts, in the hopes of either earning a spot on a roster or being given a chance in the G League. Ron Harper Jr. is the Boston Celtics' first Exhibit 10 addition this summer. Harper Jr. will be entering his fourth NBA season, having originally signed with the Toronto Raptors as a rookie. He also spent some time with the Maine Celtics this past season, and will now get an opportunity to make an impression on Joe Mazzulla and his coaching staff throughout the summer. In total, Harper Jr. made 27 G League appearances this past season, split between the Motor City Cruise and Maine Celtics, where he averaged 18.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists, shooting 39% from deep on 8.9 attempts per outing. As the Celtics already have their two-way spots filled courtesy of Amari Williams, Max Shulga and RJ Luis, Harper Jr. will either make the main roster as the 15th and final member of the roster, or join the Maine Celtics in the hope of triggering a bonus should he stay with the team for 60 days. Of course, right now, his only focus will be on making a strong impression and working to improve his game. James Harden names himself on all-time teammate starting five

The post James Harden names himself on all-time teammate starting five appeared first on ClutchPoints. Los Angeles Clippers veteran James Harden is all over the place. Recently, Harden received a basketball court in his honor in China. In addition, he will be releasing his Harden Vol. 9 'Flamingo' shoe with Adidas this September. If that wasn't enough, he is now offering his list of his all-time starting five. Interestingly, Harden brazenly put himself amongst his starting five, per NBA Central. The other four names mentioned included Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid The noticeably absent player was Clippers teammate Chris Paul. It is well-known that Harden and Paul have a complicated relationship. Altogether, Harden had played with these guys at some point in his career. From 2009 to 2012, Harden was teammates with Durant and Westbrook. In 2012, the Thunder made it to the NBA Finals before losing to the Miami Heat. The following year, he played with Paul with the Houston Rockets from 2012 to 2021, during which their relationship suffered. Harden reunited with Durant and joined Irving on the Brooklyn Nets from 2021 to 2022. From 2022 to 2023, Harden joined the Philadelphia 76ers with Embiid. In 2023, he joined the Clippers and plays alongside the likes of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. In July, Paul returned to the Clippers after one year with the Clippers. James Harden and his impact on the Clippers Playing with these other guys meant that Harden had to share the spotlight. Yet with the Clippers, he has managed to stand out. Since 2023, Harden has made quite an impression with the Clippers. He's turned the team into an offensive powerhouse, leading the way. Clippers teammates Ivica Zubac and Norman Powell saw an increase in their numbers with the help of Harden. In addition, he has taken on the role of team leader, which he will likely share with Paul. Last year, Harden averaged 22.8 points, 8.7 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game. Brook Lopez sends message to Bucks, excited for Clippers potential

The post Brook Lopez sends message to Bucks, excited for Clippers potential appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Clippers made some big splashes this offseason, none bigger than the guy nicknamed 'Splash Mountain' himself in Brook Lopez. The former NBA champion left the Milwaukee Bucks in free agency and headed West to Los Angeles. Now that he's back home, Lopez is hoping to have another chance at an NBA Championship with his new-look squad. Brook Lopez sends message to Bucks after free agency decision Brook Lopez made the difficult decision to leave the Bucks this summer after spending seven seasons alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee. The big man joined the Bucks in free agency back in the summer of 2018 and was a significant contributor to multiple playoff runs for Milwaukee, including one that culminated with the NBA Championship back in July 2021. In his introductory press conference with a contingent of media members from Los Angeles, Lopez took time to reflect on his time with the Milwaukee Bucks and ending a 50-year NBA Championship drought. 'I'm obviously proud of winning the championship,' Brook Lopez said in Las Vegas. 'But I'm thankful to all the players I played with, the coaches and staff, physical therapists, strength and conditioning people, all the people that helped put me in the position to be successful. Those guys took care of me, and we have such a special bond beyond the basketball court. That's never going to go away, and I'm just very thankful for them.' Lopez will be entering his 18th year in the NBA next season, but has still been a very impactful player at the age of 37. The motivation for the new Clippers big man: winning. 'The money is nice,' Lopez joked. 'But that's not what it's about for me. I love playing, I love hooping, and I've loved it since I was a little kid. I watched my older brothers play, I just always been around it. And I love winning just as much. I just want to keep winning. I got got a great taste for it in Milwaukee, and these guys are all about that here and I'm all about it, so it's a perfect fit.' Brook Lopez grew up in North Hollywood, California, smack dab in the middle of the San Fernando Valley. So not many have had a chance to see how far the Clippers have come, from being an afterthought in the NBA to a highly-respected organization league-wide. 'It's crazy to see, but it's very cool. Seeing the climb, the ascent. I'm a Cali boy, so I grew up in the Valley in North Hollywood. Obviously, things were very different back then and to see where the Clippers have come now, it's just astonishing, it's beautiful, I'm glad to be a part of it, and hopefully I can help take him even further up. 'Free agency came, everything happened pretty fast, but looking at my options, I was just thrilled the Clippers reached out and were one of them. They've been a great team for quite a while now. They have a ton of great players, obviously Hall of Famers, All-Stars, some great young players. My guy Zuby. There's just a great chance to win a championship here.' In seven seasons with the Bucks, Brook Lopez averaged 13 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three. Lopez's career arc looks even more extraordinary when you take into account the sharpshooting big man attempted only 31 three-pointers in his first eight seasons in the NBA combined. Since then, Lopez has attempted an average of 336 three-pointers a season and 401 threes per 82-games played. NBA writer Justin Russo took a deep dive into Brook Lopez's effectiveness and impact on his team's success, which includes the drastic change he took going from a paint-to-mid-range presence to floor spacer shooting efficiently multiple feet behind the three-point line. Lopez is still a capable starter in the NBA, but will begin the year as the backup big man behind Ivica Zubac. Alongside Zubac and John Collins, the Clippers potentially have some of the best frontcourt depth in the entire NBA.
