Telangana Distributes 5.61 Lakh New Ration Cards to Expand Food Security

Hans India15-07-2025
The Telangana government has officially started distributing 5.61 lakh new ration cards. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy launched the initiative during a public meeting held in Tungaturthi, Suryapet district, on July 14, 2025. This is part of the government's efforts to expand the Public Distribution System (PDS) and ensure food security for more low-income families.
The Chief Minister said that 26 lakh families were recently allowed to apply for new ration cards. With this move, the total number of families holding ration cards in Telangana has grown from 2.8 crore to 3.1 crore. These cards help eligible families get subsidized rice, grains, and other essentials through fair price shops across the state.
Officials said the distribution process will be transparent and fair, and that the government wants to make sure no deserving family is left out. People who receive these new ration cards will get access to better-quality rice and more consistent support under the updated food security program. The government is also working to improve the delivery system and reduce waste.

Kavitha demands higher compensation to ryots losing land for Kodangal LIS

HYDERABAD Telangana Jagruthi president and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha has demanded that the State government pay a compensation of at least ₹35 lakh per acre to farmers being displaced by the Kodangal-Narayanpet Lift Irrigation Scheme, as the authorities were offering only ₹14 lakh per acre as against the ₹20 lakh promised by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. In a meeting with the farmers, who are being displaced by the new irrigation scheme at Kanukurthy village in Kodangal constituency on Thursday, she alleged that the Chief Minister had kept the Karivena package of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, whose head works were 95% completed by the BRS Government, in cold storage, though it had planned to irrigate 1.8 lakh acres in Kodangal and Narayanpet constituencies. 'The new lift irrigation scheme taken up at the behest of Mr. Revanth Reddy reduced the irrigation potential to just 1 lakh acres. Instead of drawing water from the Jurala project for the new scheme, government is planning to draw water from the Bhoothpur link of the Bhima Lift Irrigation Scheme, restricting the availability of BLIS water to the Makthal area,' she said. She alleged that the government had escalated the Kogandal-Narayanpet LIS cost to ₹4,500 crore from ₹2,900 crore mentioned in the GO issued for the purpose without even taking up the work. She sought to know whether the increase in cost by ₹1,600 crore was meant for kickbacks. She also faulted the government for giving mobilisation advance of ₹600 crore each to the two successful bidders for the work without even doing a spadeful of work. She asked the government to give a job to one member of each family being displaced by the project and construct a housing colony for them.

CM for supply of solar energy to Secretariat

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy instructed the Energy department officials to take steps to meet the power requirements of the State Secretariat, the seat of State administration, through solar energy. He directed the officials concerned to coordinate with the Roads & Buildings department for making arrangements in this direction. The Chief Minister gave the directions during a review meeting on the Energy department on Wednesday. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka was also present. Mr. Revanth Reddy reminded the difficulties faced by vehicle owners for parking their vehicles in the Secretariat under the hot sun in summer. Steps should be taken to set up solar rooftop sheds which could serve the twin purposes of harnessing energy and providing shade to vehicles. Solar fencing should also be set up around the Secretariat. He wanted the officials to take steps to provide power supply to all tribal habitations under Indira Solar Giri Vikasam scheme on a war footing. Officials should ensure that the scheme covered 2.1 lakh tribal farmers in three years providing solar powered pumpsets required for cultivation in six lakh acres.

CM facing opposition from his own party on 10% Muslims quota, claims BJP

Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao claimed that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is facing opposition from his own party's BC leaders for providing 10% quota to Muslims in the proposed 42% reservation for the Backward Classes (BCs) on Wednesday. Talking to the media at Yellandu in Bhadradri Kothagudem district during his ongoing tour, Mr. Rao said the ruling party leaders belonging to BCs are against the 'conspiracy' by the Chief Minister in depriving BCs of their rights to gain political mileage by providing 10% quota to Muslims. The BJP has always opposed religion-based reservations and castigated the Congress government for trying to blame the Centre for its inability to implement BC reservations. With regard to the pending irrigation projects in the region, the BJP leader demanded the government to complete the pending Sitarama lift irrigation and Devadula project to provide water to the farmers. The party MLAs would seek clarity on this matter from the government in the Assembly, he promised. At Bhadrachalam, after praying at the Sri Seetharamchandra Swamy temple, he alleged that recent attacks on Hindu temples and organizations was a clear indication of the 'vote bank politics' and 'inaction' of the ruling party. He also wanted the government to take back all the temple lands given to other religious organisations. He reminded that Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, during his tenure as Culture Minister, had allotted ₹98 crore for the development of Bhadrachalam town with ₹48 crore already released. The remaining amount would be released after the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is submitted but wanted the State government to extend cooperation for the development of this temple town. Later, addressing the Kothagudem Bar Association meeting, he called for an 'Advocate Protection Act' because attacks on them have been increasing day by day similar to the one in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. A memorandum too was submitted to the Governor in this regard, he said.
