Kavitha demands higher compensation to ryots losing land for Kodangal LIS

Telangana Jagruthi president and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha has demanded that the State government pay a compensation of at least ₹35 lakh per acre to farmers being displaced by the Kodangal-Narayanpet Lift Irrigation Scheme, as the authorities were offering only ₹14 lakh per acre as against the ₹20 lakh promised by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
In a meeting with the farmers, who are being displaced by the new irrigation scheme at Kanukurthy village in Kodangal constituency on Thursday, she alleged that the Chief Minister had kept the Karivena package of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, whose head works were 95% completed by the BRS Government, in cold storage, though it had planned to irrigate 1.8 lakh acres in Kodangal and Narayanpet constituencies.
'The new lift irrigation scheme taken up at the behest of Mr. Revanth Reddy reduced the irrigation potential to just 1 lakh acres. Instead of drawing water from the Jurala project for the new scheme, government is planning to draw water from the Bhoothpur link of the Bhima Lift Irrigation Scheme, restricting the availability of BLIS water to the Makthal area,' she said.
She alleged that the government had escalated the Kogandal-Narayanpet LIS cost to ₹4,500 crore from ₹2,900 crore mentioned in the GO issued for the purpose without even taking up the work. She sought to know whether the increase in cost by ₹1,600 crore was meant for kickbacks. She also faulted the government for giving mobilisation advance of ₹600 crore each to the two successful bidders for the work without even doing a spadeful of work.
She asked the government to give a job to one member of each family being displaced by the project and construct a housing colony for them.

Revanth serves 3 bosses: KTR; Revanth made 50 trips to Delhi, got ‘0' addl funding: KTR

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has accused chief minister A Revanth Reddy of making over 50 trips to Delhi since assuming office, without securing any tangible benefit for the state. "In just 20 months of Congress rule, Revanth Reddy made 50 visits to Delhi. What has Telangana gained from these trips? Not a single paisa. Not a single new project. Not a single rupee of additional central funding. If he achieved anything, let him publish a white paper," KTR said in a post on 'X' on Saturday. He alleged that the CM was running the state not through administrative decisions and policy files, but through frequent flight bookings. "Revanth Reddy will go down in history not as a chief minister, but as a tourist CM who kept shuttling between Hyderabad and Delhi with empty hands," he said. He stated that Revanth was appeasing Rahul Gandhi to retain his post, surrendering Telangana's economic autonomy to corporates close to Modi to escape corruption cases, and gifting away Telangana's water resources to Chandrababu Naidu by remaining silent on the Banakacharla project, which threatens Telangana's agriculture. Court takes cognisance of BRS leader KT Rama Rao's defamation case against Telangana minister Konda Surekha

Hyderabad: Nearly 10 months after BRS working president KT Rama Rao filed a criminal defamation petition against minister Konda Surekha over her alleged objectionable remarks linking him to the split of a Tollywood couple, the Nampally court on Thursday took cognisance of the complaint. Following this development, the court has directed Surekha to appear before it on Aug 21. KTR had filed a private complaint last year, seeking the court's intervention to prosecute Surekha for allegedly defaming him through statements made to the media. In her remarks, she reportedly made serious accusations against KTR, which he claimed were defamatory. As per procedure, the statements of witnesses concerned will now be recorded. Based on the evidence, the court will later decide whether to frame charges against the accused. The matter is still in its early stages,' said Surekha's legal team. Prominent actor Nagarjuna had also filed a separate criminal defamation petition against Surekha, which the court had already taken cognisance of earlier. Court directs police to file criminal case against Konda Surekha in KTR's defamation case

A Nampally court on Saturday directed the police to register a criminal case against Minister for Endowments and Forests Konda Surekha in connection with a defamation complaint filed by BRS working president and former minister MLA K.T. Rama Rao. After reviewing preliminary evidence submitted by the complainant, the court of the Special Judicial Magistrate of First Class observed that there is prima facie material to proceed under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and corresponding procedural provisions under the BNS Sections 222 read with 223. The court instructed that a criminal case (CC) be registered and a notice be served to the accused on or before August 21, 2025. The court concurred with the arguments of Mr. KT Rama Rao's counsel, Advocate Siddharth Pogula, who stated that Minister Konda Surekha made baseless and defamatory allegations against Mr. Rama Rao in public all without any factual basis. Responding to objections raised by Ms. Konda Surekha's legal team, the court firmly rejected their contentions that the complaint was speculative or outside jurisdiction. The bench ruled that the court had proper authority to admit the complaint, citing a previous High Court direction. The court also rejected the defence's arguments concerning the admissibility of a pen drive submitted as evidence, stating that the requirement of a Section 65-B certificate under the Indian Evidence Act was premature at this stage, and that it could be addressed during the trial phase.
