Kavitha demands higher compensation to ryots losing land for Kodangal LIS

HYDERABAD Telangana Jagruthi president and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha has demanded that the State government pay a compensation of at least ₹35 lakh per acre to farmers being displaced by the Kodangal-Narayanpet Lift Irrigation Scheme, as the authorities were offering only ₹14 lakh per acre as against the ₹20 lakh promised by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. In a meeting with the farmers, who are being displaced by the new irrigation scheme at Kanukurthy village in Kodangal constituency on Thursday, she alleged that the Chief Minister had kept the Karivena package of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, whose head works were 95% completed by the BRS Government, in cold storage, though it had planned to irrigate 1.8 lakh acres in Kodangal and Narayanpet constituencies. 'The new lift irrigation scheme taken up at the behest of Mr. Revanth Reddy reduced the irrigation potential to just 1 lakh acres. Instead of drawing water from the Jurala project for the new scheme, government is planning to draw water from the Bhoothpur link of the Bhima Lift Irrigation Scheme, restricting the availability of BLIS water to the Makthal area,' she said. She alleged that the government had escalated the Kogandal-Narayanpet LIS cost to ₹4,500 crore from ₹2,900 crore mentioned in the GO issued for the purpose without even taking up the work. She sought to know whether the increase in cost by ₹1,600 crore was meant for kickbacks. She also faulted the government for giving mobilisation advance of ₹600 crore each to the two successful bidders for the work without even doing a spadeful of work. She asked the government to give a job to one member of each family being displaced by the project and construct a housing colony for them.

"Let Us Live In Peace": Revanth Reddy To Andhra Over Irrigation Projects

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Saturday urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to allow Telangana's crucial irrigation projects to proceed, while simultaneously issuing a stark warning of confrontation if his pleas go unheard. Mr Reddy underscored the vital importance of projects such as the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, along with Dindi, Kalwakurthy, Bheema, Nettempadu, and Koilsagar for Telangana's development. He urged his Andhra counterpart to act responsibly and not obstruct the initiatives. "Let us live in peace," he said. The Telangana Chief Minister warned that if Andhra Pradesh continues to obstruct Telangana's water interests, particularly by not withdrawing the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project, Telangana would be prepared to fight for its rights. He highlighted that the Rayalaseema project, which reportedly diverts 3 TMCs of water daily from the Krishna River, poses a significant threat to Telangana's water availability. Mr Reddy also recalled that many irrigation projects, particularly Bhima and Nettempadu in the undivided Mahabubnagar district, were inaugurated during Mr Naidu's tenure as the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. "How can he justify obstructing the very projects that were initiated during his tenure as Chief Minister and whose works began when he was Leader of the Opposition in undivided Andhra Pradesh?" Mr Reddy questioned, urging the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister to show magnanimity and support the completion of the long-delayed irrigation works. The Telangana Chief Minister also criticised former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), accusing him of neglecting the Palamuru projects during his tenure and spending a large amount of money on the Kaleshwaram project - which he claimed had become defunct. Mr Reddy asserted his commitment to lead the battle for Telangana's water rights and confidently stated his intention to remain Chief Minister until 2034. He also mentioned his government's achievements, including filling 60,000 government jobs in the first year and attracting significant investments through overseas tours.

Resolve Telangana-Andhra Pradesh river water issues: Irrigation Minister Uttam to Centre

HYDERABAD:Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday demanded that the Union government intervene and resolve the pending problems between AP and Telangana in Krishna and Godavari river basins. He also sought funds for Telangana's Icchampally project on par with AP's Polavaram. In a letter to Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil, Uttam said that the Centre should also accord permissions to the pending irrigation projects. The irrigation minister said that Telangana has not received clearances for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme. The Centre should also recommend environmental clearances for these two projects, he demanded. Uttam said that due to the inordinate delay in construction of irrigation projects, the drought-hit farmers could not get the desired results on time. 'If these projects are accorded the required permissions, the state would get Union government grants, financial aid from NABARD and also loans from the financial institutions with lower interest rates,' Uttam explained in his letter. 'Telangana proposed to utilise 45 tmcft water, saved in minor irrigation components, for Palamuru-Rangareddy project,' Uttam said and added that another 45 tmcft was allocated to Palamuru, which Telangana got additionally above Nagarjunasagar, due to the diversion of Godavari waters to Krishna basin by AP. He recalled that the undivided AP received approval for Dindi LIS in 2007 and it also sent a proposal to the Prime Minister's Office, seeking national project status as well as assistance to mitigate the fluorosis problem.

KCR mortgaged TG water interests to AP: Revanth

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday alleged that former chief minister and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao mortgaged the interests of Telangana to Andhra Pradesh when it came to utilising waters from Godavari and Krishna rivers. 'With regard to Krishna water utilization, KCR betrayed Telangana a thousand times more than the injustice done by the rulers in the erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh. The BRS leader should be awarded a punishment of 100 whippings,' the Chief Minister said, adding that BRS leaders were levelling baseless allegations against the Congress to cover up their misdeeds. Revanth Reddy made these comments after participating in a power-point presentation by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Krishna water and Medigadda project taken up by the previous BRS government and its catastrophic consequences to the state irrigation sector in Praja Bhavan here. He invited KCR to come for a debate in the Assembly on projects and Krishna and Godavari water utilization during 10 years of BRS rule and in the Congress government. The CM said that he along with ministers would even hold a mock assembly at KCR's Erravalli farmhouse if the BRS leader can't make it to the Assembly due to poor health. The Chief Minister further said that the government was ready to seek suggestions on irrigation projects from an experienced leader like KCR for the benefit of the state. 'We are also ready to seek opinions from experts and other stakeholders,' the CM said, appealing to KCR to write a letter to the Speaker to convene the Legislative Assembly sessions as the government was ready for a thorough debate. 'Let's discuss the decisions taken during the BRS regime and our tenure. As the leader of the House, I promise, without any confusion, it is my responsibility to ensure that no one's dignity is violated in the house during the debate', he stated. The government's main intention is to explain the facts to the people and be ready to fight for the rights of Telangana on water issues, he added. Further, Revanth Reddy said that it was KCR who reduced allocations from 2 TMC to one TMC per day to Palamuru- Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. The CM also questioned the change in the designs of Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation project which led to removal of 4 lakh acres of ayacut in Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda districts. During the Congress regime, irrigation facilities were provided to 54 lakh acres at the cost of Rs 93,000 per acre while the cost zoomed to Rs 15 lakh per acre during the BRS government, he pointed out.

Rs 100 crore for alternative bridge at Jurala, says Telangana Minister Uttam

HYDERABAD: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday strongly condemned what he described as false propaganda by BRS leaders regarding the condition of old irrigation projects such as Jurala and Manjeera. He asserted that the current issues affecting these projects are the direct result of the BRS government's decade-long negligence, particularly their failure to carry out even routine maintenance — not due to any fault of the present Congress administration. Uttam Kumar Reddy, accompanied by minister Vakiti Srihari, inspected the Jurala project on Saturday and later addressed the media. He said that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has taken a personal interest in the protection of the Jurala project and sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the construction of an alternative bridge. This bridge aims to divert heavy vehicular traffic from the dam surface, thereby preventing long-term structural damage. 'The chief minister is deeply committed to safeguarding Jurala and sanctioned the funds today,' he said. Referring to reports about damage to the gate ropes at Jurala, Uttam Kumar Reddy dismissed the concerns as exaggerated. 'There is no threat to the dam's operations. Engineers and technical experts have confirmed this. The BRS is misleading farmers instead of acknowledging its own failures,' he said. He reiterated that the Congress government is fully committed to the proper maintenance of existing irrigation projects while also taking up the construction of new ones to meet the long-term irrigation needs of Telangana. 'We are systematically restoring every project that was neglected by the previous regime — Jurala, Manjeera, Nagarjunasagar, SRSP, Kalwakurthy, Koilsagar, and Bhima — while giving top priority to the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. Our goal is to make the entire undivided Mahbubnagar district lush green again,' he said.
