Where Oregon Ducks' Dante Moore ranks among Josh Pate's top QBs in Big Ten for 2025 season
It hasn't been set in stone quite yet who the Oregon Ducks' starting quarterback will be in Week 1 of the 2025 college football season, as both Dante Moore and Austin Novosad continue to battle it out over the offseason and compete to see who the successor to Dillon Gabriel will end up being.
The national perception, though, is that Moore will take over as the starter, being the player with more experience on the field and a higher profile as a former 5-star recruit coming into the position battle.
Whichever player ends up winning the job will have some big shoes to fill, but there is a lot of confidence that their passer can get the job done and return Oregon to the prominence that they saw a year ago, winning the Big Ten Championship and going into the College Football Playoff as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.
This past week, notable CBS Sports analyst Josh Pate released his power rankings of the top quarterbacks in the Big Ten, and he had Moore near the top of the list.
It comes as no shock to see Allar at the top of the list, and with Sayin and Moore at No. 2 and No. 3, it's hard to argue. Where things get a bit interesting is at the No. 4 position, where Williams is getting a lot of love from Washington, and further down the list, where Michigan's true freshman QB is ranked ahead of the likes of Mendoza and Iamaleava.
As for Moore, there is a lot of hype in Eugene about what he can do this year with the Ducks. A number of players on the team, from former Duck Tez Johnson to current Duck Dakorien Moore, have propped him up as a Heisman Trophy contender in 2025, and there's a hope that he unlocks a level of Oregon's offense under Will Stein that we didn't see with Gabriel under center.
He's got to beat out Novosad for the job before any of this can come to fruition, but should that happen, there's a strong sense of confidence in Eugene.

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore signs with Beats by Dre as part of 2025 'Beats Elite' class
Though Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore has yet to officially be named the starter for this upcoming season, he was recently announced as part of Beats by Dre's 2025 "Beats Elite" class. The honorable NIL deal comprised of nine players in total, including some of the biggest names in college football such as Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams, Ohio State safety Caleb Downs, South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers and others. It's a high honor for Moore to be on this last after spending last season as the Ducks' backup, reflecting the expectations he faces this season as the former five-star recruit attempts to resurrect his college career after disappointing with the UCLA Bruins as a freshman in 2023. During that season, Moore started five games, completing just 53.5% of his passes for 1,610 yards and with an 11:9 touchdown-to-interception ratio. But heading into 2025 at Oregon, the quarterback job is his to lose. Moore's name being mentioned amongst the best in college football is a huge honor, and he'll have a chance to prove he belongs in the upper echelon of stars this fall. Oregon wide receiver Dakorien Moore named 2025 Preseason True Freshman All-American
Oregon Ducks wide receiver Dakorien Moore has high expectations within the program as he enters his true freshman season. Nationally, the expectations continue to grow as well, as he was named to On3's Preseason True Freshman All-American team. It should come as no surprise to see Moore's name on this list, as he was a five-star recruit and the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2025 class, per 247 Sports. He enrolled early and went through spring practices with the Ducks before impressing in the spring game. His commitment to Oregon allows him to compete for reps right away, especially considering the injury to presumed top wideout Evan Stewart, who is expected to miss the entire campaign due to injury. An extremely explosive athlete who plays bigger than his 5'11" frame would suggest, Moore is expected to be among quarterback Dante Moore's top targets this fall. Other true freshman wide receivers on the list include Florida State's Jayvan Boggs and Florida's Dallas Wilson. On3's Charles Power said this about Moore: "If any wide receiver could make an impact similar to what we saw from Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams last fall, it's Dakorien Moore. The former Five-Star Plus+ prospect was the clear top wide receiver prospect in the 2025 cycle, pairing elite speed and playmaking ability with outstanding ball skills. Moore has done nothing to slow down the hype since arriving in Eugene. He made big plays in the Ducks' spring game and should be in line for significant targets this fall." Being compared to Williams and Smith is certainly high praise for Moore, but he has all the talent and will have the opportunities this season to prove he belongs in that conversation. Michigan football lands top overall 2026 target, 5-star RB Savion Hiter
There has been but one prospect in 2026 that Michigan football covets more than all of the rest, one who the Wolverines have gone all in on. And though it looked like a slam dunk that the maize and blue would land him, another school came calling while Michigan was silent. And with that, it was a two-team race. That prospect is 2026 Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter, who the Wolverines have made more than a priority for over a year. His relationship with RB coach Tony Alford, going back to Alford's time with Ohio State, being key, Michigan has been in pole position all along. But Tennessee surged in a big way, and despite it being a four-team race, only two teams have been truly battling it out. On Tuesday, Hiter finally made his decision. As the Wolverines held their breath, it ended up being good news, as the five-star chose to play in Ann Arbor. Hiter is the second five-star to join the class (edge rusher Carter Meadows being the other) and is now the highest-rated commit for Michigan in 2026. He is the 22nd commit in the class and is ranked No. 9 overall, according to the 247Sports Composite. Here is his scouting report: Juiced-up running back with star potential for a College Football Playoff contender given the mix of his burst, power, agility, balance and vision. Has dominated the combine setting (1.52 10-yard split, 4.12 shuttle, 36-inch vertical jump) and is equipped with ready-to-play mass as he's already tipping the scales at 200 pounds. Effective as both an inside and outside runner as he's quick to chart a course and charge forward. Fast feet allow him to side-step trouble as he frequently dances around would-be tacklers in the backfield and turns negative plays into positive plays. Core strength and a lower pad level routinely negate arm tackles while full-speed cuts make it even harder for defenders to get him on the ground, especially when he breaks through the first wave of obstacles. Hasn't caught a ton of passes at the prep level, but has proven to be a tricky cover at offseason camps and looks to have true three-down potential as his physicality will only continue to give him an advantage in pass protection. Overall, should be viewed as a gifted ball carrier that can be a multi-year impact player on Saturdays and provide valuable minutes as early as Year 1. Must avoid setbacks and remain hungry, but profiles as a future NFL Draft pick with his size, testing and feel for the position. And here is the class now with Hiter in the fold: All rankings by the 247Sports Composite Hiter chose the maize and blue over Tennessee, Ohio State, and Georgia. He's the highest-rated running back to come to Ann Arbor -- perhaps ever.
