Man suspected of burying baby in Cameron Highlands arrested
Cameron Highlands police chief Supt Azri Ramli said police received information from the suspect's father, who found the baby's body at 10am.
"The suspect's father saw a patch of soil that had been dug up when he was going to the water tank located behind their house in the hilly location. He then stumbled on a white cloth bundle containing the dead baby and called police," he said on Friday.
Supt Azri said the 19-year-old suspect, who works as a cleaner at a homestay, admitted to burying the remains of the two-day-old baby born to his 21-year-old stepsister.
"Following that, police arrested the man at 5.30pm at his home in Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan on Thursday and seized tools such as hoes and shovels used to dig the ground to bury the baby," he said.
The man has been remanded for four days from Friday to assist in investigations under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing the birth and death of a baby. - Bernama

Police arrest 81 illegal immigrants in palm oil theft crackdown
TELUK INTAN: A total of 81 illegal immigrants were detained by police in Operation Helang Hilir Phase 2, conducted early this morning, on suspicion of being involved in stealing oil palm fruits in the district. Hilir Perak district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin, said all those arrested were Indonesian men aged between 20 and 56, caught during raids on 19 premises, including plantations and workers' quarters at oil palm estates. "This operation is a continuation of integrated actions aimed at curbing economic losses due to agricultural product theft in this district. "It is intended to combat the increasingly rampant theft of oil palm fruits involving foreign nationals," he said in a statement today. He added that 56 of the illegal immigrants had no valid identification documents, while the remaining 25 held permits or visitor passes that had already expired. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft which carries which carries a penalty of up to seven years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Johor cop dies on way to work in Skudai after driver runs red light
JOHOR BAHRU, July 29 — A policewoman died following a two-vehicle collision at Kilometer 28 on Jalan Gelang Patah-Pendas near here, earlier today. Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP M Kumarasan said the accident occurred around 7.15 am when the victim, driving a grey Proton Saga, was on her way from Gelang Patah to Skudai for her shift at the Taman Universiti Police Station. 'Upon reaching the location, a grey Proton Waja coming from the opposite direction suddenly turned left at the intersection and failed to stop at the red light, leading to the collision,' he said in a statement. Both victims were rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for treatment. However, the policewoman, aged 37, succumbed to severe head and body injuries while receiving care. The second victim, a 41-year-old woman, sustained head and chest injuries and remains unconscious in the hospital. The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death due to reckless and dangerous driving. Dramatic river chase in Kuantan as three suspects arrested in drug raid
KUANTAN: Three men suspected of drug abuse attempted a daring escape by jumping into Sungai Belat during a raid under Ops Guardian today. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Pahang, led by Deputy Director of Operations Maritime Captain Mohd Marmizi Md Nor, conducted the joint operation with seven other enforcement agencies. The dramatic chase unfolded around 10 am when authorities inspected fishing boats and targeted hotspots, including a jetty in Sungai Kuantan. 'Two men hid under the jetty while another swam away, but all three were eventually arrested,' said Mohd Marmizi. The suspects, aged between 40 and 50, were detained on suspicion of drug-related offences.
