Drug trafficking: Undocumented man charged

Kota Kinabalu: A 28-year-old undocumented man was tentatively charged at the Magistrate's Court here with trafficking 120.25gm of syabu. No plea was recorded from Azri Wahab when the charge was read before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin. Patmawati was charged under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, which provides for a fine of up to RM100 or a jail term of up to three months or both on conviction. The facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that the complainant was lured through a Telegram group promoting investment packages and, after being convinced by someone named Eien, transferred money, including into Patmawati's bank account, in hopes of getting profits. However, no returns were received, and the complainant was later asked to make more payments, realising he had been cheated. Man suspected of burying baby in Cameron Highlands arrested
KUANTAN: Police have arrested a young man on suspicion of concealing the birth and death of a baby boy in a hilly area in Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan in Brinchang, Cameron Highlands, on Thursday (July 17). Cameron Highlands police chief Supt Azri Ramli said police received information from the suspect's father, who found the baby's body at 10am. "The suspect's father saw a patch of soil that had been dug up when he was going to the water tank located behind their house in the hilly location. He then stumbled on a white cloth bundle containing the dead baby and called police," he said on Friday. Supt Azri said the 19-year-old suspect, who works as a cleaner at a homestay, admitted to burying the remains of the two-day-old baby born to his 21-year-old stepsister. "Following that, police arrested the man at 5.30pm at his home in Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan on Thursday and seized tools such as hoes and shovels used to dig the ground to bury the baby," he said. The man has been remanded for four days from Friday to assist in investigations under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing the birth and death of a baby. - Bernama

59 cops sacked over misconduct between January and May
MARAN: A total of 59 police officers and rank-and-file personnel were dismissed between January and May this year over misconduct, including narcotics-related offences. Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) director Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said 492 police personnel faced disciplinary action in the same period. "Integrity-related offences topped the list of disciplinary cases at 333 cases, followed by governance offences at 45 cases, narcotics offences at 42 cases, criminal activity at 38 cases, syariah offences at 19 cases and bribery at 15 cases. "Of the personnel involved in disciplinary proceedings, 59 were dismissed, while others faced other actions, including suspension from duties," he said after opening the Maran police headquarters here today. Azri said the department received 2,637 complaints and reports of misconduct in the same period, of which 1,892 were officially lodged and 745 were submitted by members of the public. "A total of 776 disciplinary investigation papers and 584 enquiry papers involving 2,076 personnel were opened for misconduct cases in the first five months of 2025." He said to boost transparency and improve information channels, police launched the Aduan JIPS PDRM application on June 4 to provide a more accessible and user-friendly complaints platform. "The application has received 23 complaints. We hope more members of the public will come forward to share information." At the event, Azri was honoured ahead of his retirement on June 26 after 37 years of service. Present were Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman and Maran police chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai.

Police probe viral video of officer allegedly inviting woman to hotel
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating the viral video of a police officer allegedly inviting a woman to check into a hotel with him while on duty. Bukit Aman Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance director Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said his department will not hesitate to take strict action against the officer and supervising officer if the complaint has basis. "The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. "Bukit Aman is also conducting a parallel investigation on the low-rank police officer, including from a supervisory aspect," he said in a statement today. Azri said the incident was believed to have occurred in Ampang Jaya, Selangor, and an probe was launched after Pandan Indah police station chief lodged a report.
