'Badlapur 2' in works? Here's what Prime Video's deal with Maddock Films reveals

A sequel of the Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer Badlapur (2015) may be in the works. On August 21, Prime Video India announced a multi-year post-theatrical licensing deal with Maddock Films, securing worldwide exclusive streaming rights to upcoming titles from the Indian production house. The list features Badlapur 2. It's unclear whether the film will feature a new cast or if Dhawan and Siddiqui will reprise their roles. "The slate also includes the highly anticipated Sidharth Malhotra, Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Param Sundari that premieres in theatres on 29th August 2025, as well as Shiddat 2 and Badlapur 2, expansions of two highly successful franchises," according to a statement. The broader licensing collaboration also includes the Sriram Raghavan-directed Ikkis starring Agastya Nanda, in addition to several other films to be announced soon. "We've always believed in telling stories that surprise, entertain, and resonate--and in working with partners who share that belief," Dinesh Vijan, CEO & founder, Maddock Films, said. Manish Menghani, director & head of content licensing of Prime Video India, also opened up about the "strategic collaboration". "This multi-film slate not only builds on the unique and wildly popular horror-comedy universe and franchise sequels but also brings in a distinctive blend of creative originality and fresh storytelling that is synonymous with Maddock. We look forward to entertaining our customers with the post-theatrical premieres of some of India's most eagerly awaited films," he said. Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Thama will also be out on Prime Video after its theatrical release later this year. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the movie is billed as the first love story in Maddock's horror comedy universe.

Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan makes his Bollywood debut - here's what to know

Indian superstar Shah Rukh Khan, 59, has formally introduced his son Aryan Khan to Bollywood. The actor got emotional at a glitzy event he hosted in Mumbai on Wednesday night to unveil Aryan's directorial debut – Netflix series The Ba***ds of Bollywood. "I am genuinely very thankful to the city of Mumbai and all of India, which allowed me to try and entertain you for 30 years. And today is a special day as my son is starting his journey in this very city," Khan told the gathering. Wearing a cast from a injury sustained on the set of his coming movie, King, Khan showered praise on his son, saying he was a "hard working" man and asked for blessings and prayers. "There's no guarantee of box office success and there's no guarantee that critics will give positive reviews, but when you work hard, there's a full guarantee," he said. What is The Ba***ds of Bollywood about? An action comedy, The Ba***ds of Bollywood is directed and co-written by Aryan. A satirical take on the very industry he was born into, the show is meant to be "a playful roast and toast to Bollywood" and an underdog story about how far someone will go for their dreams. "The series blends self-aware humour with a high-stakes narrative and promises a host of unforgettable cameos, blockbuster thrills and an adventurous ride into the world of Indian cinema," says Netflix. Actor Lakshya, who made waves with the 2024 action film Kill, stars in the lead alongside Sahher Bambba and Bollywood veteran Bobby Deol. Several major stars appear in the first teaser, including Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh and Karan Johar. "With The Ba***ds of Bollywood, I wanted to build a world that feels alive, a mix of glitz and grit, where ambition shines, egos clash and nothing is ever as it seems,' Aryan said. His father added: "It's a proud moment to see Aryan carve out his vision with such clarity and edge. This is storytelling that's sharp, self-aware, and unapologetically bold, and I think audiences on Netflix will connect to the heart of it as much as its style." Shah Rukh and his wife Gauri Khan are producing the show through their Red Chillies Entertainment, marking their company's sixth collaboration with Netflix. Who is Aryan Khan? Now 27, Aryan, is the eldest of Khan and Gauri's three children. Aryan's sister, Suhana Khan, made her acting debut in the 2023 series, The Archies while AbRam, the youngest, is 12 years old. Aryan's entry into the entertainment industry has been years in the making, its momentum stalled by the fallout from his cruise ship drug bust arrest in 2021. Aryan, along with several other children of high-profile celebrities, was detained for 25 days in Mumbai Central Prison as authorities investigated an alleged international drugs racket. He denied any involvement, saying he neither possessed nor consumed drugs, and that he had been invited on the cruise ship by one of the accused. He was cleared of all charges in May 2022. Later that year, he announced that he had finished writing his first TV series and launched a luxury lifestyle brand called D'yavol. On Wednesday, he told attendees at the preview that his show took four years to make. "The idea is only to provide a lot of entertainment to a lot of people," he said. "This show took thousands of takes and retakes, and I want to thank all those people who helped me create it."

Aryan Khan's honest speech at 'The Ba***ds of Bollywood' preview steals spotlight

Bollywood royalty welcomed its next-generation storyteller on Wednesday night, as Shah Rukh Khan introduced his son Aryan Khan to the world — not as an actor, but as a filmmaker. The occasion was the grand preview of Aryan's debut Netflix series, The Ba **ds of Bollywood, held at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai. The event, packed with the industry's biggest names, saw Shah Rukh take on the role of host, his trademark humour and charm lighting up the evening. But beyond the laughs, it was the emotional introduction of Aryan as a director that proved to be the night's defining moment. Shah Rukh spoke with raw vulnerability about watching his son step into the world of cinema. 'I'm deeply grateful to the sacred land of Mumbai, to this country, which has given me 30 years to try and entertain you. Today is a very special day, because on this very same land, my son is now taking his first step. He's a very good boy, as all fathers believe about their sons, and he's hardworking… Giving your 100% through hard work, that's the one guarantee you can control. So today, when he stands before you, please clap for him. But along with those claps, send him a small prayer too.' The superstar ended with a heartfelt wish that Aryan might receive even a fraction of the love and support audiences have showered on him throughout his career. Aryan Khan steps into the spotlight For Aryan, the evening marked his first-ever media interaction. Nervous but witty, the 27-year-old director admitted to rehearsing his speech for days, armed with both a teleprompter and a hard copy of his notes — 'just in case there's a power outage.' He added: "And if I still mess up, my dad is here. And if even after all that I make a mistake, please forgive me, this is my first time.' His candour, as seen in SRK himself, drew laughter, but his words soon shifted to the heart of his project: 'With this show, the only intention was to entertain people all across the world. After four years of hard work, endless discussions, and thousands of takes, the show is finally ready.' The Ba ***ds of Bollywood is pitched as an irreverent, self-aware look at the chaos and contradictions of India's film industry. The preview showcased cameo appearances by Salman Khan, Karan Johar, and Ranveer Singh, each adding to the show's playful skewering of Bollywood's excesses. In a bold move, Aryan even referenced his own past controversies — including his jail time — folding real-life headlines into the show's satirical narrative. The series features an eclectic cast including Lakshya, Bobby Deol, Raghav Juyal, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Gautami Kapoor, Mona Singh, and Rajat Bedi. Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, the project is a collaboration between Aryan Khan, Bilal Siddiqi, and Manav Chauhan, who serve as co-creators, directors, and writers. The Ba ***ds of Bollywood premieres globally on Netflix on September 18, marking Aryan Khan's official arrival as a filmmaker in one of the world's most-watched entertainment industries.
