Man slashed in the face during fight on Queens subway: NYPD
The suspect allegedly attacked the subway rider on an F train at the 179th Street station near 88th Avenue just after 4 a.m. on Aug. 9, according to the NYPD.

The suspect allegedly pulled a sharp object and slashed the victim on the face after the two argued on the train, police said. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The suspect then ran off. There have been no arrests.
The day after this incident, a man was slashed in the neck on a Bronx train, according to the NYPD.
Diana Perez, 39, was arrested for allegedly attacking the 33-year-old man on a southbound No. 2 train on Aug. 10, police said.

Tracy Hurtado, 17, was out jogging near her home in Newberry Springs, Calif., on the morning of July 17, when more than 10 dogs attacked her, according to an alert from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department (SBCSD). The SBCSD said the bites the young woman received from the canines "caused large lacerations, abrasions and removed flesh.' 'I thought she was gonna be fine, because she walks to her bus stop. So I never would have thought that anything would happen to her,' Hurtado's mother, Maria Azpeitia, said, recalling the terrifying incident to ABC 7. Azpeitia said that when she arrived on the scene after learning that her daughter had been attacked, Hurtado was unrecognizable. 'I didn't know who she was. She was so dirty — covered in dirt. So I didn't recognize my daughter,' the mother explained. 'I recognized her bra. That's what I recognized.' Azpeitia said her daughter then asked her a heartbreaking question. 'I got close to her, and she [was] like, 'Mom, am I still pretty?' ' Maria recalled to ABC 7. 'I told her, 'Yes, of course, you're beautiful,' " she added to the outlet. Hurtado's stepfather, Carlos Ramirez, told ABC 7 that the teen ultimately required over 500 stitches after the attack. 'They bit every part of her body you could think of, except for her ankles," he said. Craig Arthur Simmons was later arrested on Aug. 13 in relation to the mauling, according to an update to the initial announcement from the SBCSD. Simmons, 61, is allegedly the owner of the dogs. He was charged with Penal Code 399(B), which is 'owner of animal causing serious bodily injury or death.' PEOPLE reached out to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department for comment on Sunday, Aug. 17, but did not receive an immediate response. A GoFundMe established to help support the teenager's family states that she was getting ready to begin her senior year of high school, but she now must stay home due to 'doctors appointment and rehab.' Driver arrested after deadly hit-and-run crash in Denver near Quebec Street, police say
A man has been arrested and faces charges of vehicular homicide after Denver police say he struck a pedestrian, killing them, and driving away. The crash was reported around 11 p.m. Saturday in the 3600 block of North Quebec Street. Sunday morning, Denver police say 49-year-old Calisto Ortega-Uribe was arrested. Investigators are now working to determine if he was under the influence when he allegedly struck the pedestrian. That pedestrian has not yet been identified and police say the crash is still under investigation. Court records were not immediately available for Ortega-Uribe on Sunday afternoon.

Maryland pastor returns home a month after being detained by ICE agents
A Maryland pastor returned home almost a month after he was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents who said he overstayed his visa by 25 years. Daniel Fuentes Espinal, 54, was granted bond and released from an ICE detention center in Louisiana, according to family friend Len Foxwell. "Pastor Fuentes Espinal and his family are together again for the first time since that terrible morning of July 21, when a pastor and father of three said goodbye to his wife and children, left for work, and never came home," Foxwell said in a social media post on Thursday. The Easton, Maryland, community rallied in support of Fuentes Espinal after he was detained in July while he was on his way to work. Fuentes Espinal is a pastor at Iglesia Del Nazareno Jesus Te Ama and a construction worker. He has lived in the U.S. since 2001 and does not have a criminal record, according to Foxwell. According to ICE, Fuentes Espinal, a Honduran national, "entered the United States on a 6-month visa and never left in 24 years." "It is a federal crime to overstay the authorized period of time granted under a visitor's visa," an ICE spokesperson said. After he was arrested, Fuentes Espinal was taken to a detention center in Salisbury before he was transferred to a facility in Baltimore, then to the Winn Correctional Facility in Louisiana. "He spent three days at a detention center in Baltimore, sleeping on a cold bench with barely enough food to eat," Foxwell said. Foxwell said Fuentes Espinal had little contact with his family while he was detained. "They actually charge $50 for a phone call for a family that's already lost their primary breadwinner. That's a huge financial hit," he said. Shortly after his arrest, activists in Baltimore rallied in support of Fuentes Espinal. "People are leading into that hate, but we can't be doing that anymore. It is too late at this point in the game to hate, and I am imploring everybody to come out here and love instead," said Annalese Estepp, who attended the march that ended near Baltimore ICE's detention center in the George H. Fallon federal building. U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen also offered support, saying his team was working with the Fuentes Espinal family.
