Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said that during the same period, 28,687 entrepreneurs and cooperatives were also established through targeted assistance and support programmes.
'In addition, 540 small and medium enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs have been mentored to expand their businesses to global markets,' he said in his speech at a gathering with Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry (KUSKOP) staff and agencies here today.

Over 100,000 foreigners in Sabah registered in digital data system
KOTA KINABALU: A total of 113,282 foreigners employed in Sabah's plantation sector have registered in the centralised digital data system. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the system facilitates real-time monitoring and management of foreign workers. He clarified that the digital data collection is unrelated to citizenship or permanent residency issues. The minister spoke after chairing key meetings on foreigner management and citizenship status in Sabah. The meetings were led by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu. Saifuddin Nasution announced plans to expand data collection to agriculture, manufacturing, and mining sectors. A moratorium on enforcement will allow foreign workers time to register under the digital system. He emphasised the need for accurate data to shape policies on foreign residents in Sabah. The state government will provide a specific period for the moratorium's implementation. The meetings also addressed efforts to relocate the Palauh or Bajau Laut community for land-based employment. Saifuddin Nasution refuted claims that the community is neglected, highlighting government initiatives. Additionally, 1,247 out of 2,000 citizenship applications were approved at the JKKSK meeting. These applications spanned from 2021 to last year and were assessed under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution. Article 15A allows for citizenship grants in special circumstances. World Bank Approves US$10 Mln Emergency Aid For Cape Verde
PRAIA, Cape Verde, Aug 14 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The World Bank has approved US$10 million in emergency assistance to support Cape Verde's response to heavy rains that have left eight people dead and three others missing, Cape Verdean Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva has said, Xinhua reported. In a post on his official social media page Wednesday, Correia e Silva said the aid was activated under a cooperation programme aimed at supporting the government's efforts toward a resilient and equitable economic recovery, with the World Bank authorising an immediate disbursement. He thanked the World Bank Group for its "swift response" to Cape Verde's request and its "strong sense of solidarity" in addressing urgent social and infrastructure needs to protect communities and rebuild with greater resilience.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- Singapore's High Commissioner to Malaysia, Vanu Gopala Menon, has called for the continued strengthening of bilateral ties between Singapore and Malaysia, as both countries celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations this year. Speaking at Singapore's 60th National Day reception on Thursday, Vanu said the milestone was a celebration of the 'shared success and prosperity of both our nations' under the theme 'Bersejahtera Bersama.' 'In Malay, the prefix 'Ber-' conveys a sense of shared action, of doing something together. 'My journey in Malaysia began during my time as a slightly more junior officer many years ago. According to him, both leaders continue to maintain strong ties and revealed that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who has attended the 46th ASEAN Summit hosted by Malaysia as ASEAN Chair, will attend the 47th ASEAN Summit in October.
