'In an increasingly challenging global landscape, international stability and peace form the basis of economic prosperity and cross-border synergy, which the business community must fully leverage,' he said in a post on X yesterday.
Anwar also highlighted the strong confidence of Italian industry players in Malaysia's economic openness, governance efficiency, and competitiveness as a leading investment destination.
The prime minister said active participation by leading companies from both nations underscored the vast potential for high-impact bilateral cooperation driven by innovation, value creation, and mutual interest.
'This opens wide prospects in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, carbon capture and storage technology, defence, digital economy, aerospace, and high-tech industries — key pillars of Malaysia's economic reform agenda,' he added. — Bernama

US lifts chip software, ethane curbs as trade truce with China holds
NEW YORK, July 3 — The United States has lifted restrictions on exports to China for chip design software developers and ethane producers, a further sign of de-escalating US-Sino trade tensions including concessions from Beijing over rare earths. Synopsys, Cadence Design Systems and Siemens, three of the world's largest electronic design automation (EDA) software developers, said on Wednesday they are restoring access to their software and technology for customers in China. Earlier in the day, the US also sent letters to ethane producers to rescind a restrictive licensing requirement on exports to China imposed in late May and June. The restrictions on EDA software developers and ethane producers were just some of many countermeasures imposed by US President Donald Trump's administration in response to China's export suspension of rare earths and related magnets in April. Beijing's move on rare earths, part of retaliation against Trump's earlier tariffs this year, has upended supply chains central to automakers, aerospace manufacturers, semiconductor companies and military contractors. The issue threatened to scupper a bilateral trade deal. On Friday, China's commerce ministry said that following talks with the US, the two sides have confirmed a framework under which China will review export applications for controlled items while the US will cancel corresponding restrictive measures. 'The US have escalated to de-escalate. They put restrictions on many more items in order to get the Chinese to back off on rare earths,' according to a source familiar with discussions inside the US government. 'As the US and China continue to hold to this framework agreement, we're gonna see a lot of these restrictions go away. Going back to a status quo, where we were at in Feb/March,' said the source who was not authorised to speak to media and declined to be identified. EDA relief Siemens said in a statement that it has resumed sales and support for Chinese customers after it was recently notified by the US Department of Commerce that export control restrictions for customers in China were no longer in place. Synopsys expects to complete system updates to restore access and support to Chinese customers within three business days, according to a company letter to staff seen by Reuters. The US Department of Commerce did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. Long-term restrictions on Chinese access to EDA software would have significantly hampered China's chip design industry. Synopsys, Cadence and Siemens command more than 70 per cent of China's EDA market, Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported in April. It was not immediately clear if other countermeasures imposed by the US have been lifted. These include the suspension of licenses for GE Aerospace to ship jet engines for the C919 aircraft of Chinese airplane maker COMAC and for nuclear equipment suppliers to sell to Chinese power plants. — Reuters

Anwar wraps up Italy visit with meeting with PM Giorgia Meloni
ROME: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will wrap up his three-day working visit to Italy with a bilateral meeting with his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, at Palazzo Chigi here today. During the meeting, both leaders are expected to reaffirm their countries' commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through more comprehensive cooperation. Both sides will also discuss a range of issues encompassing bilateral cooperation in economic sectors such as trade and investment, as well as collaboration in defence, renewable energy and the environment, agro-commodities, and the digital sector. The discussions will also cover people-to-people cooperation, including education, cultural exchanges, the tourism sector, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern, such as the situation in the Middle East. At the bilateral meeting, the premier will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz. Malaysia's Ambassador to Italy, Datuk Zahid Rastam, will also be present. Anwar arrived in the capital on Tuesday as part of his visits to Italy, France and Brazil, which form part of Malaysia's ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and promote economic cooperation at the global level. In 2024, total trade between Malaysia and Italy recorded a two per cent increase, reaching RM14.61 billion (USD3.18 billion), compared with 2023. Between January and May 2025, total trade grew by 3.3 per cent year-on-year to RM6.5 billion (US$1.48 billion). Italy remained Malaysia's fifth-largest trading partner and the third-largest importer of Malaysian palm oil among European Union member states in 2024. Anwar will then depart for Paris, where he is scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron during his two-day stay there. Subsequently, Anwar will attend the 17th BRICS Leaders' Summit in Rio de Janeiro at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
