Malaysia continues to strengthen role as global halal hub
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the abattoir is the region's only halal-accredited facility and is renowned for producing halal Kobe beef.
'This visit offers us a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insights into the best practices of the Japanese halal meat industry, covering processing methods, hygiene standards, traceability systems, and the use of modern technology that complies with food safety requirements,' he said in a Facebook post today.
He also expressed his appreciation to the management of Sanda Shokuniku Kosha for their strong commitment to upholding international halal standards and enhancing the regional halal ecosystem.
He added that such strategic collaborations are vital in Malaysia's efforts to reinforce its position as a global halal hub.
In addition, Mohamad said that his ministry will continue to focus on empowering the ruminant industry this year, aligned with the Malaysia MADANI approach, which emphasises sustainability, prosperity, and creativity.
'We aim to increase local participation in this sector, leveraging modern technology and halal assurance as key foundations for success. Our goal is for Malaysians to be not only consumers but also leaders within the global halal value chain,' he said.

Malaysia to blacklist love scammers from entering country
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will blacklist love scammers, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He said this is in response to cases of scammers entering the country to defraud Malaysians. "If investigations uncover elements of fraud, for example, entering on social passes, ending in marriage and then engaging in criminal activities, which we can establish through legal and regulatory evidence, will we issue blacklists? Absolutely. "If there are specific cases, they can be escalated to us for further action," he said during his winding-up speech on the 13th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat. He was responding to Siti Mastura Muhammad (PN-Kepala Batas), who asked whether Malaysia would blacklist individuals reported to be involved in love scams. She noted that some complaints involved love scams that even led to marriage and upon investigation, these were not first or second marriages but sometimes, third or fourth. She added that most of the scammers involved were from Thailand, Indonesia and other countries. Saifuddin said as of July, 527 cases of love scam have been reported with losses totaling RM22.9 million. "Victims are lured with the pretext that someone is interested in forming a relationship, and unknowingly, they are asked to transfer money. "Victims are intelligent and educated. They are not lacking in knowledge or access to communication technology. "I urge everyone to remember that the simplest precaution is that if communication on social media ends with a request to share account numbers or transfer money, stop immediately," he said.

StashAway Malaysia introduces syriah-compliant investment portfolios
KUALA LUMPUR: StashAway Malaysia, a digital wealth management platform, is targeting RM80 million in investments within the next 12 months through its newly launched syariah global portfolios designed to offer Malaysians globally diversified syariah-compliant investment solutions. Its country manager, Wai Ken Wong, said the company decided to venture into syariah-compliant investing and introduce it to the Malaysian market, given the significance of the segment. 'As you can see, the syariah fund management industry accounts for about 20% to 25% of the overall market, valued at RM263 billion. Thus, we have to be part of this demand,' he said at a media briefing in conjunction with the product launch today. Wai noted that syariah global portfolios are also being introduced in Singapore and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to Malaysia, saying that while the take-up rate is still small, it is growing quickly. He added that as a digital fund manager operating under the Securities Commission Malaysia's digital investment manager licence, the regulator has been highly supportive of all its product offerings. Thus, he said the syariah global portfolios are intended to be mainstream rather than cutting-edge, building on the firm's existing multi-asset global portfolios to provide a yesterday -compliant alternative for investors. In a statement, the company said these syariah-compliant diversified portfolios have delivered back-tested returns of up to 14.4% annually over the past five years. 'The portfolios have demonstrated strong five-year annualised historical returns ranging from 7.3% to 14%, positioning the company competitively against conventional investment options,' it said. Built with low-cost syariah-compliant exchange-traded funds, which have ample liquidity and low tracking errors, clients benefit from efficient execution.
