Timothy A. Thomas, 17, was arrested Sunday in connection with online threats to shoot up Seminole County Highschool, according to Sanford Police Department.
The investigation began on Saturday when Sanford PD received an anonymous tip regarding a video of an unknown male threatening to shoot students at Seminole High School, the police department said.
The video, taken from a video chat website that pairs random strangers called Uhmegle, pictured the subject, later identified as Thomas, with multiple guns, vests and other items of concern. In the video, the subject said he planned to die by suicide by cop and said he would carry out the mass shooting during lunch 'when there is a big group of people in between classes', according to the arrest report.
The male stated in the video that he had three magazines for his AK-47, two magazines for his SVD rifle and an extended magazine for his Glock 19, with one magazine for his M4 rifle, the report said.
In the video, the subject said he was affiliated with gangs such as Isis, members of the Bloods street gang and has affiliation with the military.
Investigators brought a clip of the video to Elevation High School Principal Donald Taunton who positively identified the subject as Thomas and said he had 'numerous personal contacts with him', according to the report.
On Sunday Thomas was identified as the subject in the video and was arrested at his home in Sanford without incident. He was arrested on charges of intimidation written/electronic threat of mass shooting/terrorism act, Sanford PD said.
Thomas was enrolled at Elevation High School but said Seminole High School was only eight minutes from his home.
During the search of Thomas's room, police located and seized numerous airsoft weapons, an airsoft vest, a laptop, an iPhone, a knife and a notebook, the arrest report said. These items matched those seen in the video that Thomas posted but no actual firearms were located, the report said.
In an interview with police, Thomas admitted he made the threats, according to the arrest report.
'I am so thankful for the collaborative work and relentless dedication of all the agencies involved in bringing this incident to a conclusion,' said Serita Beamon, Seminole County public school superintendent, in a statement. 'The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority, and we will continue to take any potential threat seriously, and act quickly.'
Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith said the quick identification and arrest of Thomas was made possible by the collaboration of multiple agencies.
'This fast action and team work most likely prevented a tragedy and saved multiple lives,' Sanford PD Chief Cecil Smith said in a statement. 'We are thankful for the assistance of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office Gang and Habitual Offender Suppression Team (GHOST) and Crime Analyst Unit, Homeland Security Investigations, Lee County Sheriff's Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Seminole County Public Schools.'
Investigators are asking anyone with additional information about this incident to please contact the Sanford Police Department or Crimeline at 800 423-TIPS (8477) or visit www.crimeline.org.

5 Rockford residents under suspicion after AK-47, other weapons found in Freeport rental house

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Freeport Police found an AK-47 and multiple other firearms after a disturbance at a rental property, and charges are pending against five people from Rockford. Officials said officers were called to a home in the 1800 block of Indian Springs Court around 10:51 p.m. after guests in the basement area of the home were violating terms of the rental agreement. Officers said a loaded pistol with an extended magazine was in plain view on a living room table when they moved in to clear the individuals gathered within. Once police saw the gun, they detained five individuals, who were identified as residents of Rockford. The owner of the property gave police permission to search the space, and police said they found AK-47 rifle and seven semi-automatics equipped with high capacity magazines, three of which were outfitted with illegal 'switch' devices to make the guns fully automatic. Police sent the weapons to the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services, and said charges were pending the result of those findings. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Wander Franco charged with gun possession as Rays shortstop stands trial in sexual-abuse case

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was charged with illegal possession of a firearm Sunday as he continues to stand trial on charges of sexual abuse, according to multiple reports. The gun possession charge stems from a November altercation that resulted in Franco's arrest. The 24-year-old Franco was arrested after an altercation with another man. Two guns were seized by police following that altercation, one of which was found in Franco's vehicle. Advertisement That gun — a semiautomatic Glock 19 — is reportedly registered in Franco's uncle's name. Franco's lawyer, Antonio Garcia Lorenzo, argued that since the gun is licensed, "there's nothing illegal about it," per reports. Franco is currently on trial in the Dominican Republic on charges of sexual and commercial exploitation of a minor. Franco is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl. Franco allegedly paid the girl's mother thousands of dollars to engage in the relationship. The girl's mother was also charged with sexual abuse of a minor and money laundering. Once considered the top overall prospect in the minor leagues, Franco was in the midst of a breakout season when allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a minor emerged during the 2023 MLB season. Franco was placed on the restricted list by the Rays that August as MLB investigated the situation. Shorty after that story broke, MLB placed Franco on administrative leave under the league's joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy. He has not appeared in an MLB game since Aug. 2023. MLB's investigation into Franco remains ongoing as he stands trial in the Dominican Republic. Franco — who signed an 11-year, $182 million contract with the Rays in 2021 — faces up to 30 years in prison if he's convicted.
