WATCH: Hundreds of Oasis fans sing Don't Look Back in Anger outside Croke Park
Hundreds of Oasis fans who were unable to secure the highly coveted tickets to the band's two Croke Park reunion shows gathered outside the stadium in a mass sing-along on Saturday night. Several videos have been uploaded to social media documenting the crowds in Dublin 3, standing within earshot of the rapturous atmosphere within the venue. One such clip, posted by Robbie Kane of Dublin Live on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows a crowd bursting into the chorus of Don't Look Back in Anger, a song which writer Noel Gallagher has admitted has transcended the band itself. "It's a song that's still growing," Oasis' elder Gallagher brother said during an interview with Virgin Radio, adding: "it's insane." In another interview with the BBC, Noel spoke about how the song had become a rally cry for the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing, which killed 22 people during an Ariana Grande concert in 2017. Oasis fans at Croke Park In the subsequent vigils held after the attack, hundreds began to sing Don't Look Back in Anger as an ode to the victims and the city of Manchester, where Liam and Noel were born. "I was watching it happen on the news," Noel admitted. "I was speechless. It's such a tragic event, it really brought it home to me that, in times like took a song to bring people together. "I can't even think of the words to express what it is; it's just the power of music. It's a thing that brings people together." In the near-minute-long video Robbie uploaded, dozens can be seen smiling and looking around as even more sing along to Noel from outside the ground. Oasis will perform the second of their two Croke Park gigs on Sunday (August 17) before moving on to the North American leg of their world tour. So far, they have played to around 1.5million fans across Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and now Dublin, with shows in Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Pasadena and Mexico City lined up. After this stretch of the historic reunion, the brothers will return to London's Wembley Stadium for two more concerts before setting off once more for South Korea. Liam Gallagher makes alcohol confession during Oasis Dublin show
Liam Gallagher certainly enjoyed himself as he and older brother Noel performed the first of two sold-out shows at Dublin's Croke Park as part of their record-breaking Oasis reunion tour. In what was the first Oasis concert on Irish soil since 2009, more than 80,000 soaked up the biblical atmosphere in GAA HQ, with the Gallaghers appearing to be closer than ever. Once more walking out hand in hand, Liam and Noel even shared a peck on the cheek halfway through the two-hour setlist, with signs pointing to this reunion tour feeling different to the standard cash-grabs some legacy acts have carried out in recent years. Liam even dedicated the band's Stand By Me anthem to his mother Peggy, of Co Mayo, who was in attendance to watch two of her boys, while the frontman also cracked jokes with the crowd throughout. 'I think I'm a Croke Park virgin," the 52-year-old rocker confessed to the 80,000-strong audience. Oasis had previously performed at Slane Castle, Páirc Uí Chaoimh and Landsdowne Road, to name just a few of their previous Irish venues. Oasis performed in Ireland for the first time since 2009. Reports earlier this year suggested that the youngest Gallagher brother would completely ditch boozing as he focused on keeping his voice in tip-top condition for the then-upcoming concerts, and it seems he has stuck to this personal pledge. The Cigarettes and Alcohol star has impressed with his vocals during the UK and Ireland stretch of the band's world tour, with many saying Liam has not sounded as good since the '90s, during the band's heyday. After attending Saturday's concert, a visiting Belfast councillor posted to social media in agreement, stating he had experienced the best gig of his life at Croke Park. "Oasis are the greatest band of all time. Croke Park tonight was tune after tune after tune. Utterly relentless," Brian Smyth posted to X, formerly known as Twitter. "Took my 10-year-old son to his first gig, he was spellbound by it." Oasis will wow crowds once more on Sunday (August 27) before moving on to the North American leg of the tour, performing at Toronto's Rogers Stadium on August 24 and 25. Further dates in the USA and Mexico will take them up to the end of September, when they return to England to perform two more dates at London's Wembley Stadium, on September 27 and 28.
