Neeraj's schedule begins with the Doha Diamond League on May 16 and will also include the first-ever Neeraj Chopra Classic event in Bengaluru on May 24, which will cause him to miss out. In his absence, Sachin Yadav and Yashvir Singh will be representing the tricolour in the men's javelin throw.

Already assured of DL Final slot, Neeraj Chopra to skip last meeting in Brussels on August 22
Through to the high-profile Diamond League Finals, star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will skip the last leg of the prestigious series in Brussels, Belgium on Friday (August 22, 2025). Out of the 14 DL meetings, four have men's javelin throw on their roster. Chopra competed in only two, but qualified for the DL Final to be held in Zurich, Switzerland on August 28. He had also skipped the Silesia leg on August 16. The 27-year-old reigning world champion went past the coveted 90m mark at the Doha DL in May with a throw of 90.23m but finished second behind German Julian Weber. He then won the Paris DL with a throw of 88.16m in June. The top six after the Brussels leg will make it to the DL Finals in Zurich. Chopra's last competitive outing was at the NC Classic on July 5 in Bengaluru where he threw 86.18m to win the title at the event he hosted. In all, he has competed in six events so far this season, winning four times and finishing second twice. Chopra will defend the title at the World Championships to be held in Tokyo from September 13-21. Diamond League is an elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on August 27 and 28. The DL Final is a winner-takes-all competition and the championing each of the 32 events is crowned Diamond League champion. Each champion is awarded the iconic Diamond Trophy and a wild card for the World Athletics Championships. Men's javelin event will be held on August 28. Winner of each event will get a trophy and $30,000 as prize money. The second place finisher will pocket $12,000 and third place-finisher $7,000. But this year, winners of eight events out of the 32 will get enhanced prize money. The eight events are 100m men, 1500m men, 400m hurdles men, pole vault men, 100m women, 100m hurdles women, 3000m women and long jump women. In these eight events, the winner will pocket $50,000, while the second and third-place finishers will get $20,000 and $10,000 respectively.

76 killed in major highway crash in Afghanistan, 17 children among victims
Herat [Afghanistan], August 21 (ANI): At least 76 people, including 17 children, lost their lives in a devastating traffic accident in Herat province, making it one of the deadliest road tragedies in Afghanistan in recent years, Khaama Press reported. The incident took place on the Herat ring road in Guzara district when a passenger vehicle carrying Afghan migrants returning from Iran collided with a cargo truck and a motorcycle, officials confirmed. The crash triggered a massive fire that quickly engulfed the passenger Press, citing Taliban-controlled Radio Television Afghanistan, reported that three people were injured in the accident. Local authorities stated that seventeen children were among those who perished in the flames. Eyewitnesses recounted that the fire consumed the vehicle within minutes, severely hampering rescue operations. Efforts to recover bodies were hindered as the flames spread rapidly, Khaama Press reported. Officials noted that the majority of the victims were migrants who had recently crossed back into Afghanistan from Iran in hopes of restarting their tragedy adds to a series of deadly road incidents in Afghanistan. Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday pushed for reducing the minimum age to contest assembly elections from 25 to 21 years. He argued that younger leaders must be given space in lawmaking to drive India's future. Paying floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his 81st birth anniversary at the late PM's statue opposite the secretariat, the CM said the move would carry forward Rajiv's vision of empowering youth. "It was Rajiv who gave voting right to every Indian above 18. Today, inspired by the same spirit, we want to give every 21-year-old the opportunity to shape lawmaking in legislative assemblies," Revanth said.
