U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff Makes Unannounced Visit to Israel for Talks on Hostage Recovery, Gaza Aid

Ahmed Emam
Steve Witkoff, a senior figure in the U.S. administration, has made an unannounced visit to Israel to discuss alternative plans for the recovery of hostages held by Hamas and to explore expanded humanitarian aid routes to Gaza, according to Alqahera News.
The visit, which was not disclosed in advance, comes at a critical time in U.S.-Israeli relations, particularly in the context of stalled ceasefire negotiations and the ongoing hostage crisis. Gaber noted that Witkoff is expected to meet with several senior Israeli officials, possibly including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to discuss backup strategies recently referenced by President Donald Trump following the failure of recent proposals to Hamas.
The trip, Gaber explained, comprises two key parts. The first phase in Israel focuses on coordinating humanitarian assistance to Gaza via the 'Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,' an initiative supported by the U.S.
The second phase may involve a direct visit by Witkoff to Gaza, where he is expected to inspect aid distribution centers and evaluate relief operations on the ground — part of Trump's efforts to obtain a firsthand understanding of the humanitarian situation in the Strip.
The U.S. State Department, through spokesperson Tammy Bruce, announced Tuesday that President Trump intends to significantly increase humanitarian aid to Gaza. Full details of the plan are expected following Witkoff's assessment and subsequent report.
It's worth mentioning that Witkoff's agenda includes a planned meeting with Netanyahu and a possible visit to Gaza during the current trip.

Israel intercepts Houthi missile fired from Yemen - Region

Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for firing a missile at Israel's main airport on Tuesday, as the Israeli army said it intercepted it. The rebels targeted Ben Gurion airport "using a 'Palestine 2' hypersonic ballistic missile" in support of Palestinians in Gaza, their military spokesman Yahya Saree said in a video statement. The Israeli military posted on X that "a missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Israeli air force". Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, the Houthis have repeatedly fired missiles and drones at Israel. Most of them have been intercepted, but they have prompted Israeli air strikes on rebel targets in Yemen. The rebels have also attacked commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden linked to Israel, prompting several rounds of US-led air strikes. Rwanda to Accept up to 250 Deported Migrants Under US Deal

Israa Farhan Rwanda has agreed to accept up to 250 migrants deported from the United States, according to Rwandan government officials, marking a significant step in Washington's tougher immigration strategy under President Donald Trump. A Rwandan official confirmed to Reuters that the agreement was signed in Kigali in June, with the US already submitting an initial list of 10 individuals for review. Rwandan government spokesperson Yolande Makolo said the agreement reflects the country's long-standing values of reintegration and rehabilitation, noting that nearly every Rwandan family has experienced displacement. Under the deal, Rwanda reserves the right to accept or reject each individual proposed for resettlement. Those approved will receive workforce training, healthcare, and housing support to begin a new life in one of Africa's fastest-growing economies. While the US State Department and White House have not issued public comments, the Department of Homeland Security referred inquiries to the State Department. The Trump administration has intensified efforts to deport undocumented migrants and expand third-country relocation programs. In recent years, Washington has also deported individuals to countries such as South Sudan and Eswatini. According to Rwandan officials, the US will provide financial support in the form of a grant, though the exact amount has not been disclosed. The agreement also allows for future expansion beyond the initial 250 individuals, pending mutual consent. Those deported to Rwanda will not be required to stay and may leave at any time. The deal excludes individuals currently serving prison sentences or those facing criminal charges in the United States. Notably, no one convicted of sexual crimes against children will be accepted. Earlier this year, the US deported over 200 Venezuelans accused of gang involvement to El Salvador, where they were imprisoned and later released in a prisoner exchange. In June, the US Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to proceed with deportations to third countries without requiring a risk assessment. However, this policy is currently being challenged in a federal lawsuit filed in Boston. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

OPEN// Sisi reiterates Egypt's unwavering support for Lebanon's sovereignty

CAIRO, Aug 4 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reiterated Egypt's firm support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Lebanon, and its categorical rejection of any violations that infringe on Lebanese sovereignty. During a phone call on Monday with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's support for Lebanon's national institutions and their efforts to maintain security and stability. Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El Shinawy said the call addressed ways to strengthen bilateral ties, with both leaders stressing their mutual keenness to enhance cooperation across various sectors, particularly in economic, trade, and investment fields, to meet the aspirations of the Egyptian and Lebanese peoples. Sisi underlined Egypt's readiness to assist the Lebanese government in reconstruction efforts. The call also reviewed regional developments and the importance of de-escalation across the region. The two leaders also discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip. They jointly stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, the cessation of Israeli aggression, the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid, the release of hostages and detainees, and the swift launch of reconstruction efforts in Gaza. Both presidents reaffirmed the shared stance of Egypt and Lebanon in supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to establish an independent state while rejecting any forced displacement of Palestinians from their land.
