This summer, the debate of Jalen Hurts' standing within the NFL has reached new heights.
It's not just fans on social media getting into heated back-and-forth debates with each other. It's famous content creators as well.
Eagles superfan, Gillie Da King, and former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton traded shots recently over comments regarding Jalen Hurts.
Newton, a known critic of Hurts, explained why he believed Hurts should not be considered a Top 10 quarterback in the NFL. The opinion was a controversial one, which generated plenty of responses from notable figures connected to the NFL.
To no surprise, Gillie dished his thoughts on the matter, but took a rather aggressive approach in his response to Newton. Personal shots were thrown—and Newton recently fired back.
"There will not be no playing with my name," Newton said on '4th&1 With Cam Newton.' "There will not be no playing with my career. This is all entertainment here. You did it—now it is time for me to do it."
Cam Newton pulled up some statistics from Gillie's music career. The numbers and the lack of accolades gave Newton some fuel in the argument. Then, he went viral for throwing his most powerful jab at the Eagles' superfan.
"We've known you to do a lot of things, but one thing I ain't never known you to be or do, Gillie, you ain't never been great at nothing. But he has, though. The only great thing that Gillie does and has done, he's a great mascot. ... Mascot! Glorified mascot!" Newton said.

It's unclear how much of it Gillie saw, but it's apparent he wanted to make his final statement on the matter this week, at his birthday celebration.
In a recent video that surfaced on social media, Gillie was able to celebrate with the Lombardi trophy that the Eagles won back in February.
"Cam ain't never had one of these!" Gillie yelled in front of cameras. "I ain't going back and forth with you. Thank you, Jalen! Appreciate you, Jalen!"
Gillie's statement was factual, as Newton's NFC title run in 2015 didn't end with the Panthers taking down the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50. Still, the former quarterback had a career worth celebrating.
Newton holds many accolades from his playing days. He was an Offensive Rookie of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Most Valuable Player, All-Pro, and three-time Pro Bowler.
He might not have the Lombardi, along with a Super Bowl MVP like Hurts, but Newton's opinion should still hold value as a former player, with many accomplishments in the league.

Vikings training camp Day 12 medical updates: Veterans rest before preseason opener

The Vikings roster has reported to Eagan, and as a result, they have started their journey into the 2025 season. It starts at home in Minnesota, but they hope it ends on the road in Santa Clara, where they have a chance to raise the Lombardi Trophy for the first time. The worst part of football, especially during training camp, is waiting for injury updates as they occur or as players attempt to return from injuries sustained the previous season. In the case of the Vikings, they had to battle the injury bug more than they did any divisional opponent. It will make monitoring injuries throughout camp a big part of our coverage here on Vikings Wire over the next couple of weeks. After the 12th day of camp, it was a quiet day on the injury front, outside of some veterans getting to sit out. Kevin O'Connell spoke to the media before practice and declared that J Hockenson, Ryan Kelly, and Josh Metellus are all dealing with 'normal training camp bumps and bruises.' None of them practiced, but none of them are expected to miss extended time either. Justin Jefferson remains out as well, mostly as a sign of caution, but he will be back when the time is right. When we say the time is right we mean expect to see him Week 1.

Ex-Giants running back LeShon Johnson found guilty in largest federal dog-fighting case ever

Ex-NFLer LeShon Johnson was convicted of six felony counts related to his role in a federal dog-fighting bust earlier this year. A federal jury in Oklahoma found the former Giants running back guilty last week of violating the federal Animal Welfare Act's prohibitions against possessing, selling, transporting, and delivering animals to be used in fighting ventures, the Department of Justice announced on Monday. Johnson will be sentenced at a later date and faces a maximum penalty of five years behind bars and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count. New York Post/Mike Norcia Authorities seized 190 dogs and Johnson has surrendered them to the government, which is pursuing forfeiture of the animals. 'This criminal profited off of the misery of innocent animals and he will face severe consequences for his vile crimes,' Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement. 'This case underscores the Department of Justice's commitment to protecting animals from abuse — 190 dogs are now safe thanks to outstanding collaborative work by our attorneys and law enforcement components.' Advertisement Johnson had been charged in March in what federal law enforcement dubbed the largest seizure of dogs ever in a federal case and had said that he had nearly 200 'pit bull-type dogs,' which were used in an 'animal fighting venture.' During the multi-day trial in Oklahoma, prosecutors presented evidence that Johnson had bred and trafficked dogs for his operation, called 'Mal Kant Kennels,' in order to fight them. 3 LeShon Johnson scoring a touchdown in 1999. Johnson spent five years in the NFL and was drafted by the Packers in the 1994 draft before playing from 1995-97 with the Cardinals and playing the 1999 season with the Giants.
