Carnival Cruise bans several passengers after onboard brawl: Here's what went down

Hindustan Times12-06-2025
As the summer cruise season ramps up, Carnival Cruise Line is reinforcing its commitment to safety and order on board. With a renewed focus on its 'zero tolerance' policy for disruptive behavior, the cruise line is now placing a letter in every stateroom outlining its 'Have Fun, Be Safe' guidelines, reminding guests of the code of conduct from the moment they board. The renewed safety message was quickly put to the test when a brawl erupted on the Lido deck of a Bahamas cruise, forcing the ship's security team to step in.

On Tuesday, June 10, Doug Parker revealed during Cruise News Today how quick thinking of a Royal Caribbean crew member saved the lives of several passengers amid another brawl that broke out. During a weekend sailing from Half Moon Cay aboard the Carnival Sunrise, a violent altercation broke out on the Lido Deck near the aft pizzeria, drawing immediate attention from both passengers and crew.
The incident quickly escalated as multiple guests began throwing fists and launching chairs, creating a dangerous and chaotic scene. Carnival's security team responded within moments, moving in to de-escalate the situation and restore order.
A potentially dangerous incident was narrowly avoided when a large tempered glass window in the Coastal Kitchen unexpectedly shattered. Thousands of tiny glass shards rained down onto the pool deck below, but thanks to the quick response of a crew member, guests were safely cleared from the area, preventing any serious injuries.
In keeping with the company's zero tolerance policy for disruptive behavior, Carnival later confirmed that all individuals involved in the fight have been permanently banned from sailing with the cruise line. This comes after the letters were distributed to the crew and passengers as they onboarded the cruise.
The letter emphasized, 'Any guest who violates these policies or whose conduct affects the comfort, enjoyment, safety, or well-being of other guests and crew will be fined, disembarked at their own expense, and banned from sailing on Carnival in the future,' as reported by The Street.

As reported by Parker, no passengers were injured amid the brawl as a sharp-eyed waiter made a run to warn those below just minutes before the glass shattered into the pool. The waiter, Nitin Kumar, prevented a serious accident, and later, other crew members cordoned off the area, drained the pool, and removed all the glass pieces before the cruise continued from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas.
Parker added that a guest aboard Symphony of the Seas told Cruise News Today that the glass shattered while the ship was maneuvering at Port Canaveral. According to the crew, the break was likely caused by pressure and vibration. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all guests in the area were safely evacuated.

2 US Carnival Cruise Passengers Drown Hours Apart At Newly Opened Luxury Resort

Two American cruise passengers, a 79-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman, drowned in separate incidents at Carnival Cruise Line's newly opened Celebration Key resort on Grand Bahama Island on August 15. The incidents occurred just hours apart at the $600 million resort, which opened on July 19. According to the New York Post, the man became unresponsive while snorkelling at the beach around noon. Lifeguards quickly responded and pulled him ashore, where CPR was administered. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, the man was pronounced dead by a medical doctor shortly after. Later that day, around 2:30 PM, a second incident occurred on a separate cruise ship, where a 74-year-old woman was found unresponsive in one of the resort's freshwater lagoons and could not be revived despite CPR efforts. "The initial report suggests that the female became unresponsive while swimming in a pool," police said in a release shared on Facebook. The two victims were passengers on separate Carnival cruise ships: the Mardi Gras, which departed from Port Canaveral, Florida, and the Carnival Elation, which sailed from Jacksonville, Florida. The Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating, with autopsies pending to determine the exact causes of death. Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement obtained by People, "Our lifeguards and medical team responded to two separate water emergency incidents at Celebration Key on Friday — one in the lagoon and one at the beach. Sadly, both guests have passed away. One guest was sailing with family on Mardi Gras, and one guest was sailing with family on Carnival Elation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the guests and their families, and our Care Team is providing assistance." Celebration Key is a luxurious private resort that features the world's largest freshwater lagoon, Starfish Lagoon, and an impressive 11,000-square-foot infinity pool at the Pearl Cove Beach Club. The resort also offers a range of activities, including paddleboarding, as well as various dining options to suit every taste.

Amy Bradley is missing: Family sees hope after ‘verifiable' 2016 sighting surfaces; thousands of new tips received after Netflix doc

In March 1998, 23-year-old Amy Bradley, along with her family, went on a Caribbean cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Rhapsody of the Seas. She was accompanied by her parents, Ron and Iva, and her younger brother, Brad. The family was on vacation; however, during the trip, Amy mysteriously disappeared from the cruise one night, without a trace. Since then, multiple investigations have been launched, but Amy was nowhere to be found. Netflix recently released a true-crime documentary that addresses theories around the case, including claims that Amy was spotted multiple times since her disappearance. Since its release, the Bradley family says they've received thousands of new tips, some from viewers who claim to have seen Amy. Also read: 'They made a deal with the devil': Idaho Killer Bryan Kohberger sentenced, families outraged over lack of motive On March 23, the day Amy disappeared, the ship had docked in Curaçao. Nearly 2,400 passengers spent the day exploring the island. For years, theories have circulated that she might have accidentally fallen into the sea after being intoxicated, or claims that she could have been trafficked off the ship. Despite multiple searches conducted on the ship, there was no sign of Amy. The fact that passengers had already left made it possible for her to blend into the crowd or be taken away unnoticed. Brad Bradley, Amy's sibling, recently told SWNS that a former Curaçao police officer, Herman Goilo, contacted the investigators on the case with a new lead. Goilo claims he saw Amy as recently as 2016, which is the most recent sighting since she was last seen in 2005. Goilo told the investigators that he knows the people behind the disappearance. In November 2024, two investigators travelled to Curaçao to speak with him. According to Brad, Goilo gave 'verifiable truths mixed with verifiable lies.' While he believes that this new information may give the family a new direction to explore, he admits that the family has been misled before. 'We do think she's still alive,' he said. 'My parents and I have always shared this gut feeling that she's still alive. And I know that to a lot of people, they can't relate to that feeling, but we're not going to stop feeling that way unless we're given a reason to.' Brad confirmed that the FBI is now searching for Amy and that his family is 'working closely with a private investigator to find out what happened to their beloved daughter and sister.' Netflix brought the case to a whole new audience, with viewers now having different theories surrounding it. A retired US Navy man, Bill Hefner, claimed that in January 1999, nearly 10 months after Amy vanished, he saw her in a Curaçao bar, in a concerning condition. This led to theories that she was abducted and forced into sex trafficking. Some were convinced by that Amy may have willingly left the ship and started a new life. While the reason behind her disappearance is unclear, there is evidence to support the theory that she is alive, including suspicious logins from IP addresses in Barbados. The show has sparked debate among the viewers, who are questioning why Amy's parents stayed in the US instead of relocating or asking for help from the Caribbean to investigate the reported sightings. What? Why did they not temporarily move to the island she was seen on and spend the next few years investigating it first hand themselves?' Asked one detective during an interview with The Mirror UK. A legal expert, Alphonse Provinziano (via Mirror), took notes on the problem with reopening the case after so many years, citing loss of evidence and mishandling of information. He also blamed the cruise line for letting passengers leave the ship at Curaçao instead of allowing a full search and seizure. 'The argument has long been that Amy Bradley was smuggled off the ship, and the question is, is she alive or not? Was all the evidence properly preserved to determine who was last seen with her and if she was taken off the ship?' One major theory links Amy to Alister 'Yellow' Douglas, an entertainer on the ship who was seen dancing with her in the nightclub hours before she disappeared from the public eye. A woman named Lori Thompson claimed she saw them together again later that night. Douglas was questioned by the FBI, and a polygraph test was conducted, he was later released without being charged.

‘Stop It…' Passengers Scream As Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Water Slide Breaks Mid-Ride

Last Updated: An acrylic waterslide on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas broke open on Thursday, injuring one passenger and leaving a sizable hole in the bottom of the tubular slide. Chaos erupted on the Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas cruise ship when an acrylic water slide broke open mid-ride, leaving one passenger injured. The incident took place earlier this week on Thursday, when a section of the tallest water slide, located at the high-altitude Thrill Island attraction, suddenly broke while a guest was riding through its enclosed loop. The video of the incident is doing the rounds on social media platforms, showing the terrified passengers screaming 'Stop the slide!" as water was seen cascading onto the deck below. Several people can be heard shouting, 'Stop the slide. Stop the slide," as the incident unfolded. Icon of the Seas. Water slide breaks #iconoftheseas — Jim Muldoon (@jimmuldoon) August 7, 2025 Royal Caribbean Group confirmed the mishap and said that the injured guest was provided medical care. 'Our team provided medical care to an adult guest when acrylic glass broke off a water slide as the guest passed through the slide. The guest is being treated for his injuries," the group said in a statement as reported by CNN. The injured guest, whose identity has not been released, is reported to be in stable condition. The affected slide has been shut down for the rest of the voyage as the cruise line launches a full investigation into the incident. The incident came amid growing scrutiny of cruise ship safety. In July, the Icon of the Seas faced two separate mishaps. A guest fell over the side of the ship's infinity pool while retrieving sunglasses and a crew member died after allegedly jumping overboard following a violent altercation. According to Royal Caribbean's website, Icon of the Seas has six waterslides in a waterpark called Category 6, which it says is the 'largest waterpark at sea." The park is located on decks 16 and 17 of the behemoth ship, which is currently the world's largest cruise ship in operation. The cruise departed Miami on August 2 and is scheduled to return to port on Saturday after a tour of the Caribbean. It embarked on its maiden voyage in January 2024. The ship can carry nearly 10,000 people at full capacity. (With inputs from agencies) view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
