Auckland FC: Guillermo May named MVP after historic A-League football season
Goalkeeper Alex Paulsen, who has played every minute so far on loan from English Premier League side AFC Bournemouth, was named the player's player of the season.
The former Wellington Phoenix star had another rock-solid campaign between the sticks, keeping 12 clean sheets.
On the night, Logan Rogerson was honoured for scoring the club's first-ever hat-trick in the Black Knights' 6-1 victory over the Wellington Phoenix in the third domestic derby.
That hat-trick was initially awarded to fellow forward Neyder Moreno before league officials overturned the on-field referee's decision after Rogerson was seen deflecting the shot into the net.
At the Phoenix's awards night on Tuesday, women's captain Annalie Longo and men's forward Kosta Barbarouses scooped the major accolades.
The pair won the members' players of the year, media players of the year, players' players of the year and the sponsor's players of the year honours.
Longo, the long-serving Football Fern who retired from the professional game after the women's final match, also collected the Lloyd Morrison Spirit of the Phoenix award for her leadership of the women's team.
Both Phoenix sides missed qualification for their respective A-League playoffs, while minor premiers Auckland FC find out their semifinal opponents after the elimination finals on Saturday.

Photo: Andrew Cornaga/ Auckland FC will not make its entry into the women's A-League competition until the 2027/28 season. In a statement on Thursday the club said the APL had "today confirmed the decision to delay Auckland FC's entry into the Ninja A-League Women's competition". "The decision does not impact Auckland FC's commitment to working with the best young female footballers from across the region, as well as the club's dedication to help grow women's football in New Zealand," the club's statement said. It comes after months of speculation around what some had dubbed the worst-kept secret in football. On 9 April, five weeks before the A-League Women 2024/25 Grand Final, the statement: "We are finalising our planning for the upcoming Ninja A-League Women 2025/26 season, and we hope to make a further announcement in the near future" was sent via email in response to six questions about the next women's season and Auckland's participation. Ten weeks later, on 18 June, multiple questions were put to the A-Leagues and the exact same one-line response was sent on Conroy's behalf. On 9 July, the message changed to: "We're hoping to have more of an update in the coming few weeks that we can share". "Planning" was taking that long, all while existing women's teams were signing players, coaches and making preparations for a season that those who run the game said was still not finalised. If Auckland were to be involved in the 2025/26 season they would be on the back foot if the team's existence wasn't announced while the opposition were loading up their squads. It was clear Auckland would not have a women's team in the competition yet - but no-one official wanted to publicly say so. Auckland FC deferred any questions at the time to the league pointing out that their comment was reliant on the competition boss speaking first. It was a line chief executive Nick Becker stuck with on in late July when he all but confirmed it could be a couple of seasons before Auckland FC have a women's team. "It is the league's decision, it is their announcement so we're just waiting for them to follow up. "It's for them to explain and talk about. They control whether we're in or not." More to come. Football: A-League draw 'chaos' if Western United lose appeal

Photo: While A-League clubs wait to find out the fate of Western United, their thoughts have turned to the players at the embattled club as well as what it means for their own teams for the upcoming season. Western United on Wednesday night lodged an appeal of Football Australia's decision to withdraw its A-League licence . Football Australia is expected to announce its decision on the appeal next week. Western United have been in financial turmoil for months, with the club's current owners unable to satisfy the financial criteria required to maintain their licence The men's A-League competition is set to kick off on 17 October but until a decision is made on Western United's involvement no draw has been released. Auckland FC coach Steve Corica has been part of the A-League, firstly as a player then as a coach, for 20 years and has seen clubs come and go in the competition. "It's obviously not great to lose a club at this time of the season," Corica said of Western United's potential exit. "You feel bad for the players that are there as well that are preparing for a season and they're not really sure what's happening. "We hope we don't lose them and we continue as normal but it will be a bit of chaos if we do lose them as well with the draw and everything like that but I'm sure they'll work that out." Photo: photosport Western United joined the A-League in the 2019/20 season as an expansion club and won the grand final two seasons later. The last club to be kicked out of the A-League was Gold Coast United who were involved between 2009 to 2012. Prior to that North Queensland Fury were around between 2009 and 2011 and the New Zealand Knights had a similarly short stint from 2005 to 2007. Corica said planning for Auckland FC was impacted by late release of the draw. "Western is the team we will have to play three times this year so obviously if they disappear then there is no byes anymore and the draw will have to be completely re-done. "It's just more about the planning side of things for us at the moment, we have to travel a lot and we have to make sure we've got the hotels and the training grounds in place but we can't do that while we don't know the draw."
