A look at the big talking points ahead of England's Euro 2025 opener vs France
Can the Lionesses stay cool, both literally and figuratively?
This is the first time England have entered a major tournament as the defending champions after securing the European title on home soil. Sarina Wiegman's much-changed side enter this tournament in Switzerland with huge expectations to bring the trophy home again.
The worst of the heat wave in Zurich – where it hit 34 degrees on Wednesday – has subsided, but the mercury is still set to hover around 26 degrees even at the 9pm local (8pm UK) kick-off.
Chelsea forward Lauren James marked her return from three months out of action with an assist in England's 7-0 send-off victory over Jamaica in Leicester after coming on as a 63rd-minute substitute.

When she is fit, the 23-year-old, who scored three goals and added the same number of assists at the 2023 World Cup, is one of the most potent weapons in Wiegman's arsenal, and successfully managing her return – as well as how best to employ her – could be key to England's success.
Group D is arguably the tournament's Group of Death, with 10th-ranked side France and 2017 champions the Netherlands one place below them, as well as newcomers Wales keen to prove they will not be satisfied with a participation ribbon.

Unlike the World Cup, when England got off to an uneven start in a group comprised of much lower-ranked opposition in China and Haiti, there will be little margin for error here, if any.
Arsenal forward Beth Mead started every game of England's 2022 triumph, and was that Championship's Golden Boot winner as well as the player of the tournament.
But much has changed since, including the ascendance of her Arsenal team-mate and this season's Women's Super League Golden Boot winner Alessia Russo, who will be itching to assert herself early at Euro 2025.
Former France captain Wendie Renard's omission from Laurent Bonadei's side came as a shock to many – including former Lyon team-mate and England defender Lucy Bronze – and it now remains to be seen whether or not that decision was correct.
Centre-back Renard, 34, has played 168 times for France, scoring 39 goals, and was left out alongside France's top goalscorer Eugenie le Sommer, 36. While both have had tremendous success with Lyon, France's best result at the Euros was in 2022, when they reached the semi-finals.

Tyrone's Kerr misses All-Ireland Minor final after West Ham move
Tyrone coach Ciaran Gourley says it is "unfortunate" that West Ham footballer Joel Kerr was not available to play in Sunday's All-Ireland Minor final against Kerry. Kerr played a key role in the Red Hands' progression to the final on Sunday, but was not able to feature for Gerard Donnelly's side as his contract with the Premier League side started on 1 July. The 16-year-old had balanced playing gaelic football for Tyrone and was also an underage player with Irish Premiership side were reports in the build-up to the final that Kerr would not be allowed to play after his move to the Premier League side was finalised, but he was surprisingly named in the Red Hands' starting team before throw-in. However, Gourley confirmed that Kerr was not available to feature and said it was "unfortunate" for the teenager. "We had hoped during the week there might have been an opportunity for us," Gourley told TG4 before Tyrone's decider."Look, he signed with them on 1 July so he's their [West Ham's] player. "You have to respect that it's a big opportunity over there and you can't maybe jeopardise that for this one game."The players have still prepared as best they can and I know he'll be watching and cheering us on, but unfortunately for us he's not here."

Why has Sonay Kartal got strapping on her knee during Wimbledon last 16 clash?
SONAY Kartal is eyeing a spot in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon this afternoon. The 23-year-old star will overtake Emma Raducanu as British No1 if she can defeat Russian veteran Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the last 16 at the All England Club. 4 4 Wimbledon 2025 LIVE - follow all the latest scores and updates from a thrilling fortnight at SW19 She is the fourth unseeded British woman to reach the fourth round this century after Laura Robson, Heather Watson and Raducanu. Kartal has already put together her best run at a major, and she plans to celebrate after the tournament by getting her 15th tattoo. But it's not just the ink that's catching the eyes of spectators this afternoon, as she has heavy strapping on her right knee. Why has Sonay Kartal got strapping on her knee? Sonay Kartal first wore tape on her right knee on Saturday during her doubles match with fellow Brit Jodie Burrage. The pair went on to lose in straight sets to Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund, but after the match, Kartal explained the reasoning behind the tape: '(The tape) is just precaution. I am testing it out in the match today to see whether or not I like it. I'm all good. It took a lot for me to come out of doubles retirement." 4 4 But Kartal's knee has been strapped up much more for the last-16 clash than it was yesterday during the doubles defeat. The British hopeful later went on to discuss the honour of playing on Centre Court for the first time, with her last-16 clash against Pavlyuchenkova picked to open the iconic stage on Sunday at Wimbledon. Kartal added: "I found out about Centre Court just before walking out on court (for the doubles). My agent told me. It's a huge honour to play on that court. A court that you dream of. As a kid, you want to play on it. I had no idea. It was one I was hoping to play on this week. The way I am looking at it is that it's a slightly bigger Court One. "I think I have got over the court one (nerves), I will feel much better walking out on Centre. Still nerve-wracking, but Court One is already a super big court. It's similar to Centre. Warming up on Court One a couple of days ago will help me. 'I'm just tunnel vision, focusing on myself. I did watch the match yesterday (Friday). Emma played incredible tennis. Went toe-to-toe, at some points was even miles ahead. "She should get so much confidence from her game, making the world No1 play the best tennis. I don't feel much pressure. "I am playing with freedom. I feel like I have nothing to lose. I will go on court and enjoy the moment and hopefully get the win"

Iconic music star, 46, captains non-league side and takes kick-off before being subbed within minutes
ICONIC music star Pete Doherty swapped the stage for the pitch as he took part in a non-league football match. The Libertines frontman, 46, walked out and took the kick off for Isthmian League South East Division side Margate. 4 4 4 Wearing his iconic hat - and the captain's armband - Doherty led Margate out on the pitch for their pre-season clash with Tonbridge Angels on Saturday. Margate had announced earlier in the week that they had "signed" Doherty and that the star would be making his debut against Tonbridge. A statement read: "We are delighted to announce that we have signed Pete Doherty to make his Margate debut tomorrow against Tonbridge Angels. "See you there, 2:45pm kick-off". However, those hoping to see the indie guitarist play the full 90 minutes were let down after he took the kickoff and was substituted just a few moments later. Perhaps Margate could have done with Doherty up top for longer after they ultimately fell to a 3-2 defeat on the day. Nonetheless, fans loved seeing Doherty make a brief cameo. On social media, one wrote: "The living legend Mr Pete Doherty wearing number 10". While another added: "Pete Doherty playing for Margate FC… never thought he'd be 'The Man Who Would Be Wing'." - a play on The Libertines' tune The Man Who Would Be King And a third posted: "Jacob Adams has shared a pitch with Pete Doherty, what a world we live in". The Libertines have sponsored Margate's kits since 2018/19 season and continue to adorn the front of their shirts for the upcoming campaign. After the game came to a close Doherty was straight back to his usual job, headlining a homecoming gig down the road at Margate venue Dreamland amusement park.
