AMP 2047: India launches automotive mission plan to become global auto leader; built on AMP 2026 goals
The government of India has initiated the formulation of the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047), a strategic roadmap aligned with the 'Viksit Bharat @2047' vision.
The plan aims to establish India as a global leader in the automotive sector, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and increasing the country's share in global automotive trade, the ministry of heavy industries said on Thursday.
Seven sub-committees, comprising experts from the government, industry, and academia, have been formed to guide the development of AMP 2047. The committees have held their first meeting to define the plan's objectives, framework, and specific targets for sectoral growth, exports, and industry advancement.
"The vision for 2047 is not an aspiration but a strategic road map backed by concrete targets for sector growth, exports, and industry advancement.
We must think beyond specific technologies or companies and focus on India's global standing in 2047, aiming to increase our share in global automotive trade through innovation and quality," said Hanif Qureshi, additional secretary in the ministry of heavy industries as quoted by PTI.
The plan sets milestones for 2030, 2037, and 2047, with a focus on addressing challenges such as technological advancements, electric mobility, and charging infrastructure.
Government-industry collaboration underway
The initiative is being led by the ministry of heavy industries under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of minister for heavy industries and Steel H D Kumaraswamy.
It involves active participation from various ministries, including the ministry of power, ministry of road transport and highways, ministry of commerce, ministry of petroleum and natural gas, DPIIT, and the ministry of environment, forest and climate change.
Industry bodies such as SIAM, ACMA, CII, FICCI, academic institutions, testing agencies, and research think tanks are also part of the collaborative process.

Building on AMP 2026
The AMP 2047 builds upon the earlier Automotive Mission Plan 2016–2026 (AMP 2026), which aimed to position India among the top three global players in engineering, manufacturing, and export of vehicles and components. AMP 2026 also targeted increasing the sector's contribution to over 12 per cent of India's GDP and generating 65 million additional jobs

Farmer groups to step up campaign against FTA with U.S.
A general body meeting of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) held in New Delhi on Sunday (July 20, 2025) has warned the Union government against going ahead with the proposed trade agreement with the United States. The SKM said, in a statement on Monday (July 21, 2025), that the general body has also called for nationwide protests against the deal as it could act against the interests of farmers. The SKM will observe August 13 as 'Corporations Quit India Day' and said it seriously apprehends that the Narendra Modi government is surrendering to the diktats of the 'U.S. Imperialism' to sign the free trade agreement (FTA). The SKM said such an agreement could lead to opening up of agriculture, dairy and food markets and that will hurt the interests of the people. 'The FTA is supposed to come into effect by August 1, 2025. August 9 is the 83rd anniversary of the Quit India Day movement against British colonialism. To protest the BJP-led NDA government's moves to accept USA's pressures and increase imports of food and dairy items, including Genetically Modified foods and penetration of multinational corporations in food markets, SKM will issue a mass warning through these mass protests,' the statement said. 'Peasants will raise the slogan 'Corporations Quit India' on August 13 by organising tractor/ motor vehicle parades and protest demonstrations and burn effigies of the US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,' the statement added. The meeting congratulated the leadership of the united trade union movement for the strike action on July 9. 'This was the 22nd general strike since the invention of neo-liberal policies and its success has filled confidence to all the democratic sections in the society that the entire working people are ready to fight back the anti-people policies of the ruling classes,' the statement said.

Mamata accuses Modi Govt of being ‘controlled' by U.S. President
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday (July 21, 2025) accused the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being controlled by the President of United States of America Donald Trump. 'Where is India now? You [Prime Minister Narendra Modi] are being controlled by the U.S. President [Donald Trump], and yet you boast loudly,' Ms. Banerjee said addressing her party's annual Martyrs Day rally in Kolkata. The Chief Minister felicitated them with traditional 'uttariyas' and announced a financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for each family. 'The Monsoon Session stands as a proud moment for the nation, a true celebration of our collective triumphs,' the Prime Minister said, addressing media ahead of the session on the parliament premises. 'The world has witnessed the strength of India's military power.' He added that the armed forces successfully neutralised key terrorist masterminds in their hideouts with remarkable speed and accuracy, completing the mission in just 22 minutes. 'The success of Operation Sindoor has increased global interest in India's emerging 'Made in India' defence capabilities,' he said, adding that several global leaders had praised India's indigenous military technologies during recent interactions. Prime Minister, then, spoke of the broader impact of such operations in boosting domestic innovation, employment, and strategic confidence. 'This spirit will drive research, innovation, and manufacturing in India's defence sector — creating new opportunities for our youth,' he said. On internal security, Modi declared that the government's efforts have led to a sharp decline in Naxal and Maoist influence. 'India has endured many violent challenges — be it terrorism or Naxalism — but today, the Constitution prevails over bombs and guns,' he asserted. He said the so-called Red Corridor is fast transforming into 'green zones of growth and development.'
