Dubai, UAE – Rotana, the Middle East's leading hospitality management company, has announced a strategic expansion into Africa and emerging markets, with six new properties set to open in Ghana, Kenya, Benin, and Iraq. Unveiled at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025, this announcement reflects Rotana's commitment to growing its footprint in underserved, high-potential destinations.
The new properties include full-service hotels, branded residences, and midscale concepts — all aligned with Rotana's asset-light, partner-driven development model, which facilitates sustainable growth across diverse markets.
'Africa is incredibly important to us,' said Philip Barnes, Chief Executive Officer of Rotana. 'It's a region full of opportunity, energy, and untapped potential. We're entering these markets with confidence and care, ready to build lasting partnerships and deliver the kind of hospitality people can count on.'
Eddy Tannous, Chief Operating Officer at Rotana, added, 'What sets us apart in these markets is not just our systems or our brand portfolio — it's our approach. Our teams and I work closely with our partners throughout the entire development lifecycle, from concept to opening. This hands-on commitment, combined with our regional expertise, gives owners confidence and ensures we deliver not only consistency but local relevance and long-term value.'
In support of these openings, Rotana will extend its enhanced loyalty program, Rotana Discovery, across all new markets. Expected to be fully integrated with the Global Hotel Alliance (GHA) by the end of 2025, the platform will connect Rotana guests to a global network of over 30 million members, delivering increased reach, recognition, and value for both travellers and owners.
Africa: A Diversified Regional Presence

This flagship opening will serve business travellers, international organisations, and regional visitors in one of West Africa's most important capital cities.
Additional projects in Ghana are currently under discussion, reinforcing Rotana's long-term commitment to the country as a key market in its Africa growth strategy.
Benin – Cotonou:
Rotana's first Francophone West Africa project, the 185-key Rotana Cotonou, will cater to business and MICE segments in Benin's commercial capital.
Kenya – Nairobi:
Two properties in Upper Hill, Rotana Nairobi (200 keys) and Arjaan Nairobi (100 keys), will cater to corporate, diplomatic, and healthcare-related travellers in East Africa's economic powerhouse.
Iraq: A Reinvestment in Regional Growth
Rotana is furthering its investment in Iraq with two midscale hotels designed to serve domestic and regional business travellers:
Centro Baghdad (Miraj) – 210 keys
Centro Green Zone Baghdad – 150 keys
Both properties reflect Rotana's confidence in Iraq's evolving hospitality landscape and the brand's ability to deliver consistent performance in complex markets.
Looking Ahead
Rotana's global expansion strategy emphasises agility, local relevance, and commercial resilience. Each of these six projects is developed in partnership with trusted local stakeholders and tailored to meet the specific needs of the local community.
'This is the future of Rotana,' added Barnes. 'Agile, ambitious, and built around the real needs of our partners and our guests. We're growing in the places that matter most.'

Big-ticket events set the stage for tourism growth in the Middle East

According to the ATM Travel Trends report, 50% of industry experts consider leisure events as a key opportunity for the region's tourism growth Experts speaking at ATM 2025 discussed how global sports tournaments, cultural festivals and music events across the region are boosting tourism and economic growth Dubai, United Arab Emirates: 'Big-ticket' events are playing a pivotal role in driving international tourism and accelerating economic growth, according to experts speaking recently at Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025. In the GCC alone, the event and exhibition market is expected to reach US$827 million by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 3.94%. Following the global success of mega-events such as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and Expo 2020 Dubai, momentum is building across the region as Saudi Arabia prepares to host the 2034 World Cup. Discussing the evolution and impact of these events, panellists including H.E. Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority; Sebastien Doussin, Senior Vice President - Global Travel Services & Destination Management. Dnata and Noor Ahmad Hamid, CEO, Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), shared fascinating insights at ATM 2025, where the events industry was under the spotlight. The panel addressed how big-ticket events – so-called for their high value, cost and impact – have demonstrated their ability to attract millions of international visitors, boost hotel occupancy, stimulate infrastructure growth and generate long-term brand positioning for host destinations. Highlighting the importance of understanding the long-term strategic value of big-ticket events beyond immediate sales, H.E. Khalid Jassim Al Midfa commented: ' Big-ticket events provide a destination with an opportunity to establish brand positioning and exposure in a competitive global environment. These events play a vital role in supporting broader government objectives, but it is essential to invest in the right product for your destination.' Doussin reaffirmed the importance of large-scale events in destination positioning, referencing the growth of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the surge of international golfing tournaments throughout the UAE and the launch of NBA events in the capital. Commenting on the impact of technology on events, Doussin said: 'Technology has already changed big-ticket events, especially in terms of distribution and customer experience. All of the ticketing for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar was completely digital through the official event app, offering flexibility and ease of use. Ultimately, technology enables an event to become more seamless, easier and enjoyable.' Meanwhile, Hamid urged the industry to broaden the definition of big-ticket events to include exhibitions, conferences and cultural performances. He referenced Bangkok's weekly concerts, which are mainly K-pop driven, as examples of how live entertainment extends tourist stays. Supporting the panel's observations, the ATM Travel Trends report highlights the rising appeal of live entertainment and sports in influencing travel decisions. Leisure events were outlined as the top opportunity for tourism growth among 50% of industry experts, as consumer demand for in-person and cultural experiences has increased significantly in recent years. The trend of combining traditional leisure and business travel, or 'bleisure', has also accelerated as increased remote working and flexible working visas have enabled more people to live and work overseas. Building on this, business travellers are often extending their stays in destinations, creating a new opportunity in this rapidly expanding sector. The report also highlighted that business events (MICE) are emerging as a significant driver of tourism growth across the Middle East, complementing the region's thriving leisure sector. Global business travel reached a record US$1.4 trillion in 2024 and is projected to rise to US$2 trillion by 2030. The Middle East is well-positioned to capture a growing share of this lucrative market, increasing from approximately 2.5% in 2024 to over 3% by the end of the decade, supported by world-class infrastructure, a strategic location, and an expanding schedule of high-profile events. Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market, concluded: 'As big-ticket events continue to gain global prominence, their role in shaping the future of tourism, driving economic diversification and enhancing international reputation has never been more evident. The Middle East, with its strategic vision, world-class infrastructure and focus on innovation, is well-positioned to lead the next era of global event tourism.' Building on the success of its inaugural edition, IBTM@ATM will return to ATM 2026, which takes place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 4-7 May 2026, with a dedicated zone within Hall 3, highlighting the show's strategic focus on the global business events sector. Rotana embarks on region-wide digital transformation to future-proof hotel operations

Abu Dhabi, UAE – Rotana, one of the region's leading hotel management companies, has announced the rollout of a next-generation operational platform across its hotel portfolio — marking a major step in its journey toward fully digitised, data-driven hotel operations. The platform, powered by Connected Safety Net (CSN), is now live across Rotana properties, enabling teams to manage core processes such as food safety, reception standards, maintenance, and team audits — all through a single, unified digital ecosystem. As the region's hospitality sector continues to evolve, operators are under growing pressure to scale efficiently, maintain consistent brand standards, and deliver seamless guest experiences across markets. Robust digital infrastructure is becoming critical to supporting day-to-day operations and long-term growth. Rotana's adoption of Connected Safety Net reflects this shift — reinforcing its focus on operational agility and brand consistency as it continues to scale across the region. The move is part of a broader strategy to elevate service delivery and embed smarter, more responsive systems into hotel operations. By streamlining day-to-day operations and reducing manual workload, the system allows Rotana's staff to focus on delivering a seamless, high-quality experience that aligns with the brand's service promise. 'This transformation is about making every part of our operations smarter, faster, and more connected,' said Eddy Tannous, Chief Operating Officer at Rotana. 'It gives our teams the tools they need to lead with confidence and deliver the same exceptional standards our guests expect — no matter where in the region they are.' A Scalable Platform for Operational Agility Built for speed and flexibility, CSN replaces paper-based systems with a no-code, mobile-enabled platform that supports real-time reporting, automated workflows, and instant compliance tracking. With capabilities ranging from digital permits-to-work to configurable audits and safety logs, the platform empowers Rotana's teams to proactively manage service quality, drive accountability, and respond faster to on-the-ground issues — all while reducing administrative complexity. Paul Richardson, Managing Director at Connected Safety Net, said: 'We are incredibly proud to support Rotana, a true leader in hospitality, on this transformative journey. Together, we've digitised critical operations, enhanced efficiency while supporting sustainability goals, and demonstrating what can be achieved when technology meets visionary leadership. This partnership epitomises our commitment to enabling safer, smarter, and more sustainable environments across the hospitality sector.' Powering the People Behind the Brand While the technology operates in the background, the result is felt across every guest interaction — shorter response times, safer spaces, and better communication between departments. 'This isn't just a system upgrade,' said Carole Gemayel, Corporate director of Environment, health and safety at Rotana. ''It's a cultural shift. Our teams now have real-time visibility and the autonomy to lead with accountability — which directly translates into better service and stronger guest trust. More importantly, the CSN rollout is about digitizing all food safety and health & safety records, helping us reduce paper consumption and effectively track team compliance. These digital tools support hotel-level managers and frontline teams while aligning with Rotana's brand promise of delivering 'Treasured Time' across every stay.' With over 114 properties in operation and development, Rotana is building the infrastructure today that will support its continued growth tomorrow. The rollout of CSN reflects the company's commitment to scalable innovation — ensuring every hotel, team, and guest benefits from the same high-performing operational foundation. This initiative follows a series of strategic investments in people, systems, and partnerships that place Rotana at the forefront of modern hospitality in the region. About Rotana Rotana is one of the region's leading hospitality companies, founded in Abu Dhabi in 1992.
