Amazon Nuclear Deal Helps Fuel 8% Leap in Talen Energy Stock (TLN)

Shares in U.S. utility group Talen Energy (TLN) powered higher today as it went nuclear with tech giant Amazon (AMZN). Confident Investing Starts Here: Energy Boost Talen, whose stock zoomed up 8%, said it had expanded its nuclear energy partnership with Amazon to supply up to 1,920 megawatts of electricity from its Susquehanna plant in Pennsylvania to Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers. The deal, which will last until 2042, is a huge boost to Talen as it means steady, long-term revenue, and for Amazon, which is looking to meet growing demand for fossil fuel-free energy to keep its AI and cloud operations on track. As part of the partnership, both companies will also look at building new Small Modular Reactors and expanding the nuclear plant's energy output. Amazon's share price was flat in early trading, though the partnership extension seems to allay some fears over the availability of clean electricity. Supply Squeeze Demand for electricity is growing in the U.S., driven by the growth in data centers and artificial intelligence, with supply potentially being squeezed by the crackdown in subsidies for renewable energy development under President Trump. As such, U.S. tech firms are scrambling around to find new or larger sources of energy to keep the AI fires burning. Nuclear power group Constellation Energy (CEG) recently signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Meta Platforms (META) to deliver 1.1 gigawatts from its Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois, starting in 2027. Back in May, Element Power announced a partnership with tech giant Google (GOOGL) to develop three advanced nuclear reactor sites. Last October, it agreed to buy energy from Kairos Power's small modular reactors, with the first expected to be running by 2030. Anthropic's co-founder, Jack Clark, recently estimated that 50 gigawatts of new power (about the size of 50 nuclear plants) will be needed by 2027 to support AI development. LANZAJET EXPANDS PARTNERSHIP WITH MICROSOFT TO STRENGTHEN THE COMPANY'S GLOBAL GROWTH

This agreement deepens multi-level collaboration with Microsoft across climate investment, renewable fuel offtake, and now digital infrastructure CHICAGO, June 12, 2025 /CNW/ -- LanzaJet, Inc., a leading next-gen fuels technology company and producer of sustainable fuels, today announced a new agreement with Microsoft to adopt Microsoft Azure as the company's preferred cloud platform. The agreement marks an expansion of LanzaJet's partnership with Microsoft and underscores the central role innovation plays in scaling next-generation fuels for aviation. LanzaJet will leverage Azure to support their global growth by enhancing the company's operational systems, financial platforms, and data-driven decision-making capabilities, including those related to plant performance and supply chain optimization. "For early-stage technology companies like LanzaJet, partners matter, and Microsoft has been with us from the start," said Anne Sidio, Chief Transformation Officer at LanzaJet. "This agreement builds on a multi-level relationship with Microsoft, from early investment in our company to renewable fuel offtake agreements and now digital infrastructure, reflecting the kind of collaboration needed to accelerate innovation, scale operations, and build a secure and resilient global platform." Microsoft has been a cornerstone partner in LanzaJet's journey, providing both capital and commercial alignment. The Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund was among the first institutions to invest in LanzaJet, offering one of the company's earliest low-interest loans to help finance the construction of LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels, the world's first commercial ethanol-to-SAF facility in Soperton, Georgia. Microsoft deepened that commitment in 2024 with a direct investment in LanzaJet to support continued global deployment of its technology. In addition to financial backing, Microsoft is also an offtaker of LanzaJet's fuels, leveraging renewable diesel as well as SAF Certificates (SAFc) from future LanzaJet projects to advance its own emissions reduction goals and fulfill its industry-leading sustainability commitments, including becoming carbon negative by 2030. With today's announcement, Microsoft becomes a core technology partner supporting LanzaJet's internal systems as the company scales its global operations. "Microsoft's continued support of LanzaJet reinforces the critical role enterprise-grade technology can play in climate innovation," said Alistair Speirs, Senior Director of Azure Global Infrastructure at Microsoft. "We are glad to be partnering with a leader in the sustainable fuels industry and be a part of LanzaJet's continued mission to decarbonize aviation." As LanzaJet expands its project portfolio across the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Latin America, building their global platform on Azure will enable secure, scalable connectivity across regions, while supporting robust data management in areas ranging from feedstock traceability to emissions accounting. This announcement follows a series of milestones for LanzaJet, including recent recognition from TIME100, S&P Global, and Reuters for the company's innovation, impact, and leadership in the global clean energy transition. LanzaJet is a leading alternative fuels technology provider with patented ethanol-based alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) technology. LanzaJet is creating an opportunity for future generations by accelerating the production and deployment of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and other alternative fuel technologies critical to transform the global economy. LanzaJet was recently named TIME100 Most Influential Companies for 2024 and a Rising Star Company of the Year by S&P Global. Further information is available at .

Databricks Announces Strategic AI Partnership with Google Cloud to Bring Gemini Models Natively to the Data Intelligence Platform

SAN FRANCISCO, June 12, 2025 /CNW/ -- Databricks, the Data and AI company, today announced a new strategic product partnership with Google Cloud to make the latest Gemini models available as native products within the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform. This partnership empowers organizations to build, deploy and scale AI agents using Google Gemini's advanced capabilities directly on their enterprise data — securely and with unified governance — within their Databricks environment. As businesses seek to unlock value from their proprietary data with AI, they need solutions that deliver accuracy, security and compliance without operational complexity. Many current AI deployments force organizations to move data between systems or manage fragmented controls. Databricks and Google Cloud have partnered since 2021 to deliver data at scale on Google Cloud. The expanded partnership addresses these challenges by combining Databricks' unified data and AI platform with Gemini's leading models. This offers a seamless, secure way to build and manage AI solutions at scale on Databricks. Google Gemini 2.5 represents a new milestone in AI reasoning and performance, excelling at complex, multi-step decision making and natural language understanding. The latest Gemini models, including Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash, now achieve leading performance on key industry benchmarks. Databricks customers will also get access to the recently introduced "Deep Think" mode for advanced reasoning and robust security safeguards. As native products in Databricks, Gemini models will be accessible to customers directly through SQL queries and model endpoints, eliminating the need for data duplication or integrations, creating a seamless experience. Customers can pay for Gemini usage through their Databricks contract. "By using Google's Gemini models directly on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, organizations can build and scale AI agents tailored to their specific domains and data," said Ali Ghodsi, Co-founder and CEO of Databricks. "Gemini is advancing at an impressive rate, and it's no surprise that enterprises everywhere are seeing value from these models." "Our partnership with Databricks is another critical step in helping every enterprise transform their businesses with generative AI," said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud. "By providing Databricks customers with direct access to Gemini's advanced capabilities, customers can more easily build and deploy sophisticated AI agents, automate complex data workflows, and uncover more predictive insights from their own data, accelerating innovation at scale." Partnership Highlights: Native Databricks integrations: Gemini models will be made available and billed as native products within the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, enabling secure, direct use of enterprise data without replication. Domain-specific AI agents: Organizations can now use Gemini models to develop AI agents capable of handling complex datasets and workflows, with support for advanced reasoning and large context windows. Unified governance: Databricks Unity Catalog ensures end-to-end governance and responsible AI use, supporting compliance efforts with security, access and ethical standards. Enhanced productivity: AI agents can use Gemini to automate business processes, generate insights from live data and support decision making with current, context-rich answers.
