Hawaiʻi to host international gaming tournament on March 25
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Farrington High School will set the scene for an international esports tournament on March 29, with competitive gamers from Asia and the mainland looking to engage in Hawaiʻi's emerging esports scene.
'Hawaiʻi is proud to welcome some the world's top esports talent to the Honolulu International Esports Tournament,' said Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke. 'As Hawaiʻi's first international esports tournament, this event showcases the power of esports to inspire students, create career pathways in technology and connect players from diverse backgrounds… We look forward to welcoming more teams from across the country and around the world as Hawaiʻi continues to grow as a global esports hub.'

Nine students from University of Utah, including their Asia campus, will compete in non-violent computer games against gamers from Farrington High School, as well as other Oʻahu schools. According to officials, this event highlights esports as a gateway to tech careers.
The University of Utah's partnership with Farrington High has helped the school's esports program flourish, opening up opportunities for students to gain priceless experiences that prepare them for careers in game development, animation and interactive media careers.'As our esports-friendly competition continues to grow with participants from middle school, high school and post-high school organizations, partnerships like this go a long way to promoting our long-term goal of global education and workforce development into various high tech industries,' said Farrington Esports Program Director Josh Dimaya.
Even Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi is excited for the tournament, saying that esports helps bridge connections across cultures and sets students up for bright futures.

'The Honolulu International Esports Tournament is an exciting opportunity to showcase the incredible talent of our local students while strengthening global connections through gaming and technology,' Blangiardi said. 'Esports is more than just competition–it's a pathway to careers in tech, digital media and innovation. The Honolulu International Esports Tournament will take place on March 29 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Farrington High School's computer lab and library. The tournament will also be streamed live on KHII and KHON2.com.

Sutter Pediatric patients get a Disney surprise
( — Children and their families at Sutter Medical Center got a special surprise Tuesday, as they were treated to a tropical-themed party, a private screening of the hit new live-action 'Lilo and Stitch' movie and a visit from Stitch himself in full costume. 'Sometimes these events can really help them feel like they're not in the hospital,' explained Sara Anderson, pediatric manager of integrated therapies at Sutter Children's Center. 'We all remember going to Disneyland and we see a character, how special it is. But imagine being a child in the hospital and having a character come to you, and how that can just really lift your spirits. And we always focus on helping children be more comfortable while they're here. And this is just a natural way for them to have something to experience that really brings happiness.' The event was put together in partnership with Disney and Starlight Children's Foundation. Disney calls it a movie party in a box. Kids come away with souvenirs and memories to cherish. 'We wanted to bring the magic of 'Lilo and Stitch' to a children's hospital,' said Dvorah Waldman, director of corporate social responsibility for Disney.' It's incredible to see the joy on their faces and the happiness that it brings. And just a moment of happiness, a moment of joy in an otherwise really difficult experience for a lot of these kids and families.' 'It made me feel like I was in the movie just standing with him saying, 'Hi, my name is Grace and this is my friend Stitch,'' said nine-year-old patient, Grace, after meeting Stitch. 'Amazing, cool, awesome and ten out of ten.' 'It creates a very family environment for the hospital,' added Grace's mom, Jessica Stevenson. Comedian Jefferies set to host new FOX show before tour stops in Hawaii
HONOLULU (KHON2) — A new show on FOX is putting master manipulators to the test. 'The Snake' will feature 15 contestants leveraging their unique skills and relying on their powers of persuasion. Throughout the game, a 'snake' will be chosen to juggle the fate of their fellow competitors, all while trying to compete for the grand prize of $100,000. Kev Herrera Brings His Raw and Relatable Comedy to Blue Note Hawaii World-famous comedian and show host Jim Jefferies tells us 'The Snake' will have a familiar 'survival of the fittest' theme, but with a twist. 'There's no backstabbing you in this game, people are stabbing you in your front,' Jefferies said. 'What makes this show different from other shows is once you win the challenge, you get to become the snake, you get a snake medallion, the most coveted character in the game, and then we have a saving ceremony, not an elimination ceremony where the snake decides who they're going to save first. Then that person decides to save another person, and that person decides to save another person until we get down to the final two players, and the snake decides who gets to live and who goes home.'Jefferies is coming to the islands this summer for a pair of stand-up comedy shows, starting July 25 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, followed by a show at the Blaisdell Concert Hall on July 26. 'I've been writing this show for a very long time, it's good to go. I will say this about the Hawaii shows, these are the only shows in the world that I request to do every year,' Jefferies said.
