Men's Asia Cup: India to face Pakistan on September 14 in UAE
The tournament will follow the T20I format and feature eight teams — the five full members of the Asian Cricket Council (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka), as well as the UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong.
The tournament opener is placed between Afghanistan and Hong Kong on September 9. India will kick off its campaign against the UAE on September 10, while the high-voltage game against Pakistan is scheduled for September 14.
India will play their final group stage fixture against Oman on September 19. After the group stage, the tournament will proceed to the Super 4, where the top two teams from each group will qualify. The final is scheduled on September 28.
India, Pakistan, the UAE, and Oman are in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong are in Group B.
Although India is the formal tournament host, a neutral venue will be provided for the opposing team for three years for competitions held in India or Pakistan, according to an agreement between the BCCI and the PCB.
The agreement was reached ahead of the Champions Trophy, held in Pakistan earlier this year. During that tournament, India played all its matches, including the one against host Pakistan, in Dubai. India went on to win the final, which was also held in Dubai.
India is the defending champion of the Asia Cup. In 2023, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, and Sri Lanka was picked as the neutral venue for India's fixtures.
In May, various reports and speculations stormed social media, suggesting that India had declined to participate in this year's Asia Cup and the Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
The reports claimed that the BCCI had informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) of its decision to withdraw from both events — the Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka next month, and the Men's Asia Cup, slated for September.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia categorically denied the claims, stating that the BCCI hasn't engaged in such conversations or taken any steps regarding the ACC events. The BCCI secretary labelled the reports as "speculative and imaginary."

"There was no need to sort of walk him off in that fashion': Marcus Trescothick on Ben Duckett, Akash Deep bante
London: England's Assistant Coach Marcus Trescothick reflected on Ben Duckett and Indian pacer Akash Deep's friendly banter during the first session of day two of the fifth and final Test at The Oval, on Friday. Trescothick said it is better for a batsman to put his head down and walk off after getting out, adding that there was probably no need to walk Duckett off in the manner Akash Deep did. During the first session, Duckett tried getting under Akash Deep's skin, saying, "You cannot get me out in here". In response, although Akash did not say anything, Duckett hit him with a reversed ramp shot to the delight of the English crowd. However, Akash Deep soon turned the tables, bowling Duckett out caught behind by wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel for 43 runs off 38 balls, which included five fours and two sixes. During the celebration, he pumped his fist in front of Duckett, then wrapped his hand around his shoulder, smiling and exchanging a few words with the opener. "I don't think I've ever seen a bowler do that after getting someone out. You see, he obviously has many words, and we've seen it within the series on both sides, but it was just different. You put your head down and walk off. Your job is done at that point. There's probably no need to sort of walk him off in that fashion," Trescothick told the media. Trescothick also spoke on providing substitutes for injured players, and said rules have been in place for many years and they've done just fine in the past, so we should not be changing anything at the moment. Ahead of the start of Day 2 of the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, England suffered a significant blow as their ace right-arm seamer Chris Woakes was ruled out of the Test match after suffering a shoulder injury. "Test matches is test matches, and I think you don't need to adjust too much. I like to think we're producing some good cricket around the world in every test-playing nation. I don't think we should try and mess with it too much. The rules have been in place for many, many years. And they've done just fine in the past, so I wouldn't be changing anything at the moment," he added. Trescothick also believes the match is evenly poised between India and England and feels the pitch probably continues to be lively and more seam movement will happen as the game moves forward. "It's pretty evenly poised, I guess at the moment, plenty of wickets in the course of today, but the game is moving forward pretty quickly, and who knows what tomorrow will bring. I think you'll see the pitch probably continuing to be lively and more seam movement as the day goes on," he said.

Pakistan batter Sadaf Shamas ruled out of Ireland T20I series
New Delhi: Pakistan women's team will travel to Ireland without top-order batter Sadaf Shamas, who has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series due to a muscle injury sustained during a practice session in Karachi. The 26-year-old has been replaced by Shawaal Zulfiqar, who was part of the 24-player skills camp held in Karachi. The 20-year-old has previously represented Pakistan in seven T20Is and three ODIs. She will travel from Lahore to Karachi to join the national squad ahead of its departure to Ireland on August 3. The Pakistan women's team, led by Fatima Sana, remain unbeaten in 2025, having registered five wins in as many matches during the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier at home. Ireland, who announced their squad on Friday, are also coming into the series with momentum after a clean sweep in their recent white-ball series against Zimbabwe. The two teams will face off in a three-match T20I series in Dublin from August 6 to 10. On Friday, a 14-member squad was announced by Ireland for the three-match T20I series against Pakistan. Gaby Lewis will continue to lead the side, with Orla Prendergast serving as her deputy. The Ireland squad is bolstered by the return of off-spinner Freya Sargent, who makes her comeback after recovering from injury. Fellow spinner Lara McBride retains her place in the squad after an impressive debut series against Zimbabwe. The series serves as key preparation for Ireland as they gear up for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, where they'll be aiming to secure a spot in next year's showpiece event. The two sides have faced off 19 times in T20Is, with Pakistan holding the upper hand, having won 15 of those encounters. However, in their last T20I series in 2022, it was Ireland who emerged victorious, clinching the series 2-1. Pakistan squad: Fatima Sana (c), Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, Eyman Fatima, Gull Feroza, Muneeba Ali, Najiha Alvi, Nashra Sundhu, Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Shawaal Zulfiqar, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin, Tuba Hassan and Waheeda Akhtar

"The idea was to back each other up every time we're bowling": Prasidh Krishna on team spirit in pace attack
London: After being put on the back foot by England's explosive start on Day 2 of the Test match, India's pace attack staged a brilliant fightback, led by Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, with Akash Deep playing the supporting role. England raced to 92 for no loss in just 12.4 overs, with Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley looking dangerous but Akash Deep struck gold when he removed Duckett for 43, triggering the breakthrough that saw wickets fall at regular intervals. Siraj and Krishna ended with figures of 4/86 and 4/62, respectively, while Akash Deep returned with 1/80. The Indian cricket team posted a video of Krishna and Siraj on their official Instagram handle. Prasidh Krishna opened up about the bond shared within India's pace unit, "With Siraj, we've been playing a lot, I mean, it's been five years now, including time spent together in the IPL (Indian Premier League). We sit together a lot, spend time together. It's the same with Akash Deep. I think the fast bowling unit is looking pretty good." Krishna also spoke about how he has worked on his bowling between games to bounce back stronger, "We did put in a lot of work. The intensities were different, the areas I was bowling were different. I think I can say I learnt from the two games I played, and was working on what I could do better." During the break, the three pacers had a brief but impactful conversation. "We said, whatever happened has happened, now we know what needs to be done. The idea was to back each other up every time we're bowling. If something needs to change, we just go up to each other and keep reminding ourselves, and get on the same page with our plans," Krishna explained. He added, "We're really happy. We enjoy each other's company and make sure we push one another, keep encouraging one another to do better and that's what we're doing." Siraj, who has played all the Tests in the ongoing series, echoed the sentiment and underlined how conditions in England favour fast bowlers. "I told Jassi bhai that, 'why you're going? Whom will I hug when I take a fifer?' Jassi bhai said, 'I'm here only, you take a fifer," Siraj said. The Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the Indian squad for fifth Test against England, currently in progress at The Oval. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement, saying, "Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the fifth Test of the series against England. The fifth and final Test of the series is underway at Kennington Oval, London." "In England, everyone likes to play because there's more swing, and the wicket helps fast bowlers," Siraj noted. Reflecting on the team's comeback, Siraj said, "After such a bad session, making a comeback like that, it's a lot of fun as a fast bowler. When you're given 100% responsibility, it feels great. I talk to the bowlers, explain to them what to do and what not to do, it's something I really enjoy." Siraj also touched on his personal journey and work ethic, "From childhood till now, I've worked hard to get here but my mindset remains the same, I must give my 100%, whatever the result may be."
