Builders dream about their jobs

Perth Now27-06-2025
Builders cannot stop thinking about work in their dreams.
Just over 51 per cent of tradespeople say they sometimes visualise doing activities - be it installing a toilet or laying a brick - whilst trying to get some kip.
Also, six per cent of builders compared their dreams to a "never-ending game of Tetris" - a puzzle video game where shapes must be neatly sorted into a pile.
Elsewhere, it is said that plumbers are likely to dream about pipes, toilets, sinks and showers.
Whilst roofers will think about fixing roof tiles to a building.
Chris Other, from Toolstation, which carried out the survey, is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "We know the demands of the job can often keep tradespeople up at night - whether its worrying about a project, chasing payments or just juggling a busy schedule."

Take That were turned down by Stock Aitken Waterman

Take That were turned down by record producers Stock Aitken Waterman. The legendary 1990s boy band - once formed of Robbie Williams, 51, Gary Barlow, 54, Mark Owen, 53, Jason Orange, 55, and Howard Donald, 57 - sold over 45 million records worldwide, as well as 17 top five singles on the UK Singles Chart, with 12 having reached number one. However, record-producing powerhouses Mike Stock, 73, Matt Aitken, 68, and Pete Waterman, 78 - who achieved 13 number ones in the UK with their artists, including Kylie Minogue, 57, Rick Astley, 59, and Jason Donovan, 57 - had no interest in signing the fivesome because the terms offered by their then-management were "derogatory". Stock told the Daily Star newspaper's Wired column: "We did turn down Take That. We didn't really see that for what it was." Agreeing, Waterman explained: "We turned it down because of the management. The terms they were offering were derogatory. "I think that you have to have a value for your talent, otherwise there's no point you doing it. "We were as hot as pistols at the time, so, we just said no. That wasn't against Gary and the boys. It was just, that it didn't work." Pete thinks a collaboration between Stock Aitken Waterman and The Pet Shop Boys - Neil Tennant, 71, and Chris Lowe, 65 - would have been something special. He added: "I still think Stock Aitken Waterman and The Pet Shop Boys would have been quite amazing." In January, Stock Aitken Waterman reunited at their former recording studio - nicknamed The Hit Factory - in Vine Yard, Borough, South London, as they received a Blue Plaque from the Southwark Heritage Association for their immense contribution to British music. Speaking before the unveiling, Aitken told the crowd: 'What a terrific honour it is, and thank you all for coming. 'It was a very special place for us. 'I think it's because it's hidden from view – but especially because it had thick walls, so the sound wouldn't get out and disturb the neighbours!' Stock added: 'I would like to say thank you to Southwark Borough Council for all the work they've done in getting this organised. 'And also a big thank you to Paul Smith. 'He got this started over three years ago, Tony King, they all put the time and effort for this to happen, and for our delight and thanks for doing it. I'm really happy.'

Tom Cruise boldly shows up at Oasis concert despite infamous diss by band members

Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas were spotted among a sea of fans at the latest Oasis concert. Cruise, 63, and his upcoming "Deeper" co-star, 37, caught the Gallagher brothers performing at London's Wembley Stadium on Friday, July 25. English producer DJ Goldie snapped a selfie with Cruise at the show, nearly 20 years after the band mocked the "Mission: Impossible" actor. Noel and Liam Gallagher embarked on a comeback tour earlier this month — a series of concerts marking the first time Oasis has performed together since the band broke up in 2009. Cruise appeared to be loving every second of the performance as he smiled with the British DJ in a snap shared on Instagram. His attendance proved there was no ill-will between the trio, more than 18 years after Liam and Noel mocked the "Top Gun: Maverick" star. In an excerpt from the band's 2007 documentary, "Lord Don't Slow Me Down," Liam and Noel admitted they weren't fans of Cruise. "Tom Cruise is a f****** midget," Noel said, before continuing on, "He's a little f*****, and he's not been in one good film his entire career." "'Cocktail' is great," Liam said about Tom's classic 1988 romantic comedy, which also starred Elizabeth Shue. Still, Liam asserted, "I hate Tom Cruise." While some of the band argued that "Eyes Wide Shut" was a good Cruise film, Liam stood firm in his disdain. "I hate Tom Cruise. Him and [then–pro soccer player] Michael Owen," he said. Shortly after the Cruise cursing was released, the "Jerry Maguire" actor reportedly confronted Liam at a hotel in Berlin. While Cruise was in town to promote "Valkyrie," the Daily Star reported that Tom and Liam "made polite conversation" regarding Gallagher's disapproval. Cruise allegedly reminded the "Champagne Supernova" singer that he was still a fan of "Cocktail." The reported rift was far from his mind, though, this week as romance rumors continued to swirl between De Armas and Cruise. The pair — who will soon begin filming the supernatural thriller "Deeper" — sparked dating rumors earlier this year when they were spotted together in London. They've since been seen together several times, including on her birthday in April and at David Beckham's birthday party in May. De Armas admitted that it was "surreal" to hear kind words about her work from Cruise, ahead of their new film. "It's very special," de Armas told Access Hollywood in May when asked about him raving about her role in the film. "It's very surreal that an actor like him, like someone like him, likes the movie and my performance and my work, and we're working together now so, yeah, it's pretty, it's really amazing." In a photo and video captured by a bystander and shared on X of the April birthday stroll, Cruise walked next to de Armas with his hands behind his back and was holding what appeared to be an olive green dog leash with a pouch. The pair were accompanied by another woman as well as security guards. The day before de Armas' birthday, the "Ballerina" actress was photographed with Cruise as they disembarked a helicopter that was flown by the "Minority Report" star. On Feb. 13, the two were pictured walking through London's Soho neighborhood as de Armas carried what appeared to be takeout bags of food from a restaurant. They stopped for photos with fans before leaving in a taxi together. Originally published as Tom Cruise boldly shows up at Oasis concert despite infamous diss by band members

Scouting for Girls frontman Roy Stride regrets snubbing collaborations

Scouting for Girls lead singer Roy Stride wishes the band had collaborated with more artists at the height of their success. The 46-year-old singer has recalled how the This Ain't A Love Song band could have "worked with anyone" when they had hits during the 2000s and regrets letting his ego stop them from doing so. Roy told the Daily Star newspaper's Wired column: "Honestly I had the opportunity then to have worked with anyone in the world, like, really I could've worked with Max Martin or like any songwriter in the world. "I was just like because I'd written all the first album myself I was like, 'No, I just write it all by myself.' "And now I spend such a great portion of my time writing songs for other people, which I love. I do wish I'd used that opportunity there to have worked with amazing artists." Roy admits that collaboration could have helped Scouting for Girls crack America, something they were "naive" about at the pinnacle of their fame. He said: "With America, it's not like we just thought that it would happen, but you do, when you're in that bubble of being one of the biggest bands in the country, you just assume, you do." Scouting for Girls are playing numerous festivals this summer and Roy thinks they are always asked back for gigs every year because they prioritise the fans. The She's So Lovely hitmaker said: "We're not trying to fob anyone off, so if you like new music and you're a big fan, there's good stuff coming out, but we always do a show where we're playing the hits as well. "I try to be the band, I do everything in this band that I wish the bands that I loved would do, I play the hits, but do really good new music, and really interesting on socials too." The group were branded 'Scouting for Idiots' by Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher in a 2008 interview but Roy admitted recently that he doesn't hold a grudge following the typically acerbic comments. He told Contact Music: "I would never retaliate. "He was like a God. Did it hurt? Not really. I never heard it. My wife heard it live on radio because I think he said it on Radio 1, but she was like, Oh, he basically sounded like he'd been out all night and he came in, and was just reviewing every single band, and he was just saying that about every band. I've never met him since. "You can see on my vinyl here. And I've got, yeah, I've got everything. I've got Oasis and Blur."
