Netflix You season 5 ending leaves fans 'incredibly frustrated' over one character

Daily Mirror25-04-2025

You season five has signified the end of Joe Goldberg, seven years after the Lifetime-turned-Netflix drama first aired.
WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from You season five.
Netflix fans have left fuming over the conclusion of You season five, all thanks to one character's actions.

Joe Goldberg (portrayed by Penn Badgley) is back to his old tricks, falling madly in love with a troubled woman and using his emotions as a justification to torment and kill those around them.
This time, his wife Kate Lockwood (Charlotte Ritchie) uncovers his true nature when he murders a relative of hers who threatened to reveal a past deal she made that resulted in children developing cancer.
Although she initially gives him the green light, she soon regrets her decision and after further investigation into his history, decides that he must be stopped.
With assistance from Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman) from season four, whom he framed for murder, and his series three romantic interest Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), they succeed in trapping Joe in his infamous glass cage.

However, things don't go as planned when Joe manages to escape, shoots Kate and strikes her on the head with a mallet.

In a surprising turn of events, Maddie (Anna Camp) appears in Mooney's bookstore seeking revenge against Joe for imprisoning Harrison (Pete Ploszek) and sets the shop ablaze.
As he retreats to the basement, it is believed that Kate dies after losing consciousness shortly after recording Joe's confession of poisoning his first wife Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti).
But, in the final moments of the season finale, it's revealed that Kate is not dead.

She walks into the restaurant, burns scarring her right arm, with Henry by her side, ready for a rendezvous with her brother Teddy.
Despite being permanently marked by her past, "You" enthusiasts are convinced that justice hasn't been served regarding Kate's conclusion.
A Reddit user expressed their dissatisfaction, posting: "I don't care what fate he got since he was exposed anyways, but I wish Kate also got punished too. She was essentially able to walk free."

In response, another chimed in: "Thank you! ! I thought I was the only one who was incredibly frustrated with how they were portraying her to be some redeemable saviour.
"She killed children in the past and ordered a hit on a relative of hers because of the fear of it being leaked.

"The fact that she somehow survived being shot and hit with a mallet while burning alive in the basement was also ridiculous.
"Kate literally got to keep Henry at the end and was a karma houdini essentially".
Someone else wrote: "I'm glad Joe got what he deserved, but I still feel unsatisfied in terms of justice because of her."
Another commentator added: "Kate did all of that only to end up being exactly like Joe. Dodging accountability for her actions, escaping legal and moral culpability, insisting her own kills are for the greater good while pretending as though she doesn't like/derive pleasure and enjoyment out of doing it, and insisting that she's a good person beneath it all.
"Joe became the Love to Kate's Joe. And Henry absolutely does need to be taken away from her yesterday."

Lewis Capaldi to make 'huge comeback' with 'secret set' at Glastonbury Festival two years after breakdown

The Scots star is reportedly set to make a grand return to the music scene after taking time out of the limelight Lewis Capaldi is reportedly set to make a huge comeback at Glastonbury Festival after struggling to perform two years ago. The Scots singer is believed to be taking the 'Secret Set' slot on the Friday night of the music festival. The Forget Me chanter is believed to be taking to the Pyramid Stage at the iconic music event after Alanis Morrisette, reports the Daily Mail. It comes after the 28-year-old was forced to apologise to fans throughout his 2023 Glastonbury set as he battled with flailing vocals and a fading voice. ‌ The West Lothian native looked visibly frustrated throughout the performance as he made an emotional admission to the crowd. It later came to light that Lewis had experienced an attack of Tourette's Syndrome on stage. ‌ The Bruises hitmaker had previously taken time off in the lead-up to the festival to focus on his mental health and told fans on stage he would likely be taking another extended break following the performance. "Look I'm really sorry before we go any further, because this is a pain in the a***," he said. "You've all come out and I'm apologising that my voice is f***ing packing in. Glastonbury I'm really sorry, I'm a bit annoyed with myself here. "I recently took three weeks off, just because I've been non-stop since the start of the year and wanted a break for my head and my mental health. I wanted to come back and do Glastonbury because it's so incredible and I just want to thank you all for coming out. "I was scared but you really made me feel at ease. I'm really sorry, I hope they will let me back on even though it's been a sh**show. "I feel like I'll be taking another break over the next few weeks so you probably won't see me for the rest of the year. But when I do come back and I do see you I hope you're up for watching." ‌ In a touching show of unity and support, the crowd sang Lewis' hit Someone You Loved back to him, nearly moving him to tears. Music-lovers also buoyed him up by chanting "Oh Lewis Capaldi". Lewis vanished from the spotlight to adjust to the impact of his Tourette's, saying that it "became obvious" during his Glastonbury set "that he needed to spend much more time getting his mental and physical health in order". ‌ "I [need to do this] so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come," he added at the time. "Playing for you every night is all I've ever dreamed of, so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. "I'll be back as soon as I possibly can." ‌ Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder that often causes sudden unwanted and uncontrolled rapid and repeated movements or vocal sounds called tics, at times making it difficult for people to speak. Fans were given an insight into Lewis' diagnosis in his acclaimed Netflix documentary, How I'm Feeling Now, which was released shortly before his Glasto appearance. ‌ And back in March, singer Yungblud excitedly talked up Capaldi's pending return to music, remarking: "I have heard his new music and it sounds great. He is getting his mental health right. I love him. We've been on this ride together." Lewis Capaldi's management and Glastonbury Festival have been contacted for comment. Netflix fans urged to watch 'incredible' new movie with shock twist

Fans of Netflix have been urged to watch the thriller Straw following its recent addition to the streaming service. Written, directed and produced by Alex Cross star Tyler Perry, the film stars Taraji P. Henson as a single mother who becomes embroiled in a sequence of terrible and violent events as she struggles to care for her ill daughter. The film also stars Jingle All the Way actor and comedian Sinbad, and Precious actress Sherri Shepherd. Released on the streaming service on June 6, the film has already picked up traction among viewers, swiftly moving up the charts to become the platform's most streamed movie in the UK this weekend. Emerging to strong word of mouth from audiences, it has already been described as one of the director's best films to date (admittedly, this mixed-bag of a catalogue does include his Madea and Mrs. Brown's Boys crossover). Viewers were particularly vocal about its 'heartbreaking' ending – which featured a twist to the tale which will ensure Straw won't be forgotten in a hurry. After watching, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on what they had just witnessed. 'Straw is such a humbling movie. The rawness was so real and the plot twist was crazy,' wrote she_mego on X. 'What a walk through emotions @tylerperry's STRAW. The plot twist at the end wallowed me up. A good watch indeed!' exclaimed sandra_buma. 'After watching Straw, I no longer know how my heart is feeling. When what gave you purpose is suddenly gone. It speaks to a pain that's hard to name. Raw, emotional, and deeply human. Kudos to the writer… truly outdone🖤' said david_harris_r. 'Tyler Perrys STRAW absolutely incredible i literally cried blown away!' said MelisaWhiskey. From its reviews, critics heaped praise upon star Taraji, with Screen Rant describing her performance as 'an acting masterclass.' 'Straw has a cultural pulse-taking urgency that lifts it above [Tyler Perry's] usual run of comedies and melodramatic potboilers, flawed as it is,' wrote Dennis Harvey of Variety. Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly described the film's emotions as 'so raw and the performances are so earnest that you've really got to have a heart of stone not to care for these people.' Award-winning Taraji – nominated Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at 2008's Oscars – previously starred in hit movies The Color Purple and Hidden Figures. Her performance in the film comes two years after she spoke out on the issue of inequality in pay for Hollywood's women of colour. 'I'm just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do, getting paid a fraction of the cost,' she told Gayle King on SiriusXM Radio. 'I'm tired of hearing my sisters saying the same thing over and over. You get tired. I hear people go, 'You work a lot.' I have to – the math ain't mathing. 'And when you start working a lot, you have a team. Big bills come with what we do. We don't do this alone. The fact that we're up here, there's a whole entire team behind us. They have to get paid. 'When you hear people saying, 'Oh, such and such made $10million.' That didn't make it to their account. Know that off the top, Uncle Sam is getting 50%. Do the math. 'Now we have $5million – your team is getting 30% off of what you gross, not after what Uncle Sam took. Now do the math.' As the interview went viral, fans and peers in the acting community shared messages of support. 'Not a damn lie told. Not. A. Damn. Lie. We go TO BAT for the next generation and hell even our own generation and above,' wrote Gabrielle Union in response. More Trending 'We don't hesitate to be the change that we all need to see AND it takes a toll on your mind, health, soul, and career if we're keepn it [100]. [Love] u @tarajiphenson. [sic]' 'We feel you, @tarajiphenson and we love you. It's a fight we ALL are waging,' agreed Community star Yvette Nicole Brown. 'For ourselves and for the ones coming up after us. This mess sucks!' Adele says relationship with son has changed after poignant moment

Adolescence hit screens earlier this year on Netflix and has quickly become a fan favourite, with many hoping another series is in the works Adele says her relationship with her son has changed after a poignant moment between them. The singing superstar has said that she has written letters of thanks to the creators of the Netflix hit series Adolescence for the impact it has had on her and her son. The 37-year-old told director Philip Barantini that she watched the series alongside 13-year-old son Angelo. She said the programme changed "her relationship" with Angelo who she shares with ex-husband Simon Konecki. ‌ Adolescence landed on Netflix earlier this year and was an instant hit. It stars Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham and tells the story of a 13-year-old schoolboy accused of murdering a classmate after being radicalised by misogynistic social media content. ‌ The Sun reported that Philip said: "I am getting messages, inundated on Instagram, from people from all over the world who can relate to this story or have really been affected by it. That, for me, has blown my mind a little bit. "I had a text message from Steven Spielberg who has watched it twice, and I got letters from Adele last week - handwritten letters from Adele. I mean, just like saying that she had watched it with her son, and it has changed their relationship. "Things like that are just beyond anything I ever imagined from this little show that we made with our family. You see things like Baby Reindeer and all of those shows — they come out and then they just blow up. It's a huge thing and that is the power of Netflix. "For some reason, because we made it in Yorkshire and it is set in a small town in England, I never thought in a million years it would be the number one show in India or Venezuela." ‌ The series has became Netflix's second most-watched English-language TV show ever only behind Wednesday, which is the Addams family spin-off. Since its March 13 debut, Adolescence has amassed 141.2 million views so far. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has also praised the show and how popular it has been across the world. He has even gone on to say that he thinks that schools should show the series to students for educational purposes. Sir Keir said he watched the series with his 14-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son. He said: "As a dad, I have not found it easy viewing." Main actor Owen Cooper has risen to fame since the show. He has been getting a lot of media attention after becoming an overnight star and even appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last week.
