Morocco to Host 5th Meeting of Global Alliance for Two-State Solution
Rabat — Morocco will host a meeting on the future of Palestinian statehood on Tuesday in Rabat.
The 5th meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution will bring together high-ranking political officials, special envoys, and representatives from international organizations to discuss a path forward to peace in the region that is currently under crisis due to Israel's genocidal war on Gaza and the West Bank.
Morocco is organizing the meeting in partnership with the Netherlands, providing a platform for participants to address several key topics.
On the agenda are discussions ranging from the impact of Middle East peace processes to efforts to support Palestinian state governance structures, as well as economic foundations for peace in the region.
The meeting is also designed to be a launchpad for projects, initiatives, and achievements that contribute to and support lasting peace in the Middle East region.
Organizers expect participants to form concrete policy recommendations aimed at supporting diplomatic efforts and strengthening conditions to pave the way for a smooth and efficient implementation of the two-state solution.
The gathering also aims to draw conclusions that would contribute to the upcoming high-level conference also on Palestinian statehood that will be held at United Nations headquarters in New York in June 2025.

In September of last year, the Global Alliance launched during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week as a diplomatic platform dedicated to effectively reviving the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
This fifth meeting follows previous gatherings held in Riyadh, Brussels, Oslo, and Cairo.
Morocco has always backed the Palestinian cause, reiterating the need for implementing the two-state solution.
The North African country believes the two-state solution framework is the backbone of establishing security and stability in the region.
Morocco's King Mohammed VI has relentlessly called for adopting the solution, which includes establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
On the ongoing Israeli genocide on Gaza, the king has recently called on parties involved in the unrest to sit down at the negotiation table.
In his speech to the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad, Iraq, the Moroccan monarch urged the immediate intervention to put an end to the 'Israeli military aggressions against the West Bank, particularly the demolition of homes and the forced displacement of peaceful, unarmed populations living in areas under Israeli security control.' After updating Morocco's map to include the Sahara, France revises the Kingdom's total area
France continues to update its official data on Morocco following its recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. After publishing the kingdom's complete map, including the southern provinces, on October 29, 2024, French diplomacy has now updated Morocco's official area on its website—raising it from 446,550 km² to 710,850 km². This update reflects the political decisions made by Paris, notably following the letter sent by President Emmanuel Macron to King Mohammed VI on July 30, 2024. Earlier this week, the French ambassador inaugurated a visa application office in Laayoune, marking another step in this policy shift. This opening follows the announcement of a €150 million investment in Morocco's Saharan provinces, made by the Director General of the French Development Agency (AFD) during a visit to Laayoune. It's worth recalling that in February, both the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher, and the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, visited Laâyoune and Dakhla separately.

Israel Blocks Arab Ministers from Visiting Palestinian President in Ramallah
Rabat – Israel has refused to allow foreign ministers from five Arab countries to visit Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the city of Ramallah, located in the occupied West Bank. Israel controls all entry into the occupied territory, including its borders and airspace, and said it would not cooperate with the planned visit. An Israeli official said the meeting, which was meant to promote the creation of a Palestinian state, was 'provocative' and accused the Palestinian Authority of not condemning the October 7 attack by Hamas. 'Such a state would undoubtedly become a terrorist state in the heart of the Land of Israel. Israel will not co-operate with such moves aimed at harming it and its security,' said the official. According to reports, foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar were expected to attend the meeting. The five countries strongly condemned Israel's decision. The Jordanian foreign ministry said the ministers rejected the move to block their visit with Palestinian President Abbas. The delegation considers the move a 'blatant violation' that 'reflects the arrogance of the Israeli government' and its 'disregard for international law,' added the statement. Earlier this week, Israeli soldiers fired what they called 'warning shots' at diplomats from Arab and European countries during a visit to the West Bank. Also this week, Israel announced plans to approve 22 new settlements in the West Bank. These settlements are considered illegal under international law and are seen as a major roadblock to peace. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and France are planning to co-host a peace conference at the United Nations in June to revive talks on the two-state solution. Yet Israeli forces have in recent weeks shown no desire to halt or end their genocidal war on Gaza. According to Gaza's health ministry, the death toll in the Palestinian enclave has reached 54,381 since October 7, 2023. Gaza has become the 'hungriest place on Earth,' the UN lamented recently, warning that the entire population of 2.3 million people faces 'catastrophic hunger.' Tags: GazaIsraelPalestineWest Bank

Morocco Announces Special Holiday for Eid Al-Adha on June 9
Doha – The Head of Government's office has announced that government departments and local authorities will observe an exceptional holiday on Monday, June 9, for Eid Al-Adha. The holiday extends the observance of the festival, which falls on Saturday, June 7, corresponding to the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah 1446H. This decision was made in accordance with Article 3 of Decree No. 2.05.916 issued on July 20, 2005, as amended and supplemented, according to the government statement. The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs had previously announced on Tuesday, May 27, that the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah had completed thirty days. Consequently, the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah is Thursday, May 29, with Eid Al-Adha falling on Saturday, June 7. The ministry clarified that it had monitored the crescent of Dhu al-Hijjah for the year 1446H after sunset on Tuesday, the 29th of Dhu al-Qa'dah (May 27). Officials contacted all Islamic Affairs delegates across the kingdom and units of the Royal Armed Forces participating in the crescent observation, who unanimously confirmed that the crescent was not visible. This year's Eid Al-Adha comes under exceptional circumstances as Moroccans have been called to abstain from the traditional sacrifice. On February 26, King Mohammed VI urged citizens to refrain from performing the ritual sacrifice this year due to the alarming decline in the national livestock population. The royal appeal was motivated by economic rather than religious considerations. The national livestock, particularly sheep, has decreased by 38% since 2016, with the number of female breeding stock falling to 8.7 million heads in 2024, compared to 11 million in 2016. This decline threatens the sector's sustainability and has caused red meat prices to soar. The COVID-19 pandemic followed by several years of drought severely impacted livestock numbers. In normal years, approximately 5.5 to 6 million animals would be sacrificed during Eid Al-Adha. Continuing this practice this year would further deplete breeding stock and potentially drive meat prices to MAD 200 ($20) per kilogram. While there is no formal ban on sacrifices, authorities are implementing stricter enforcement of regulations regarding informal practices associated with the holiday. The government has launched a MAD 3 billion ($300 billion) program to help rebuild livestock numbers, with an additional MAD 3.2 billion ($320 million) planned for 2026 to support breeders participating in the female breeding stock preservation campaign.
