
Meta Rolls Out AI Translations for Facebook and Instagram User-Generated Content
Currently, the one-click translations effectively translate English reels into Spanish (or vice versa), though other languages will be added at a later date. But other languages aren't left out completely for now. A Facebook-only feature lets creators add multiple audio reels to a single video, allowing it to be accessed in as many languages as the uploader provides tracks for. It's unknown whether this feature will come to Instagram at a later date.
A representative for Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Additionally, uploaders can opt into an AI lip sync feature that works in tandem with the translations to create what Meta claims are seamless mouth movements in AI-edited videos. The AI lip sync can be turned off using creator controls at any time, which is helpful for anyone who is nervous about AI-generated visual elements in their content.
Creator control
Anyone who creates content for these platforms will also have additional control over how they spread with new tools on the backend. A new metric in the Insights tab will let creators sort through their view count by language, presumably as a way to prove the effectiveness of these AI translations.
The suite of AI translation tools follow closely on the heels of a report that signals that Google could soon be adding Duolingo-like AI tools to Google Translate. During the 2025 Google I/O presentation, an on-stage demonstration of Gemini integration for smart glasses showed off what an AI-assisted real-time conversation between people that speak different languages could look like in the near future.

The model performed just as well as or better than specialized predictive models without requiring much fine-tuning. CoMET will deliver tools like Median Length-of-Stay for Discharge Planning, pushing predictive AI straight into operations. As the dataset grows, the models get stronger, and stronger models deliver sharper insights. CIOs and healthcare operators must act now to embed these predictions into their operational workflow. Universal Patient ID Epic hasn't announced plans for a universal patient ID, but the pieces are in place and the path is clear. Patients juggling multiple MyChart accounts or moving across systems want one login. Epic announced MyChart Central, a feature that will allow patients to connect their records from different providers using a single Epic-issued ID. Through a partnership with CLEAR, patients can now verify their identity securely with biometrics. This integration streamlines account creation and recovery in both MyChart and EpicCare Link, cutting administrative workload while strengthening security across the enterprise. As more standalone solution capabilities fold into Epic's EMR platform, a larger question emerges: Will market consolidation leave enough competition to drive real innovation? Healthcare leaders must balance the appeal of a comprehensive solution with the industry's need for diverse and inventive players.

US examines equity stake in chip makers for CHIPS Act cash grants, sources say

Cherney WASHINGTON/SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) -U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is looking into the government taking equity stakes in Intel and other chipmakers in exchange for grants under the CHIPS Act, which aims to spur factory-building in the U.S., two sources said. As part of a plan to revive U.S. manufacturing - a key Trump agenda - Lutnick said earlier on Tuesday the U.S. government wants an equity stake in Intel in exchange for cash grants approved by the administration of former President Joe Biden. Now Lutnick wants to expand that plan to other companies, according to a White House official and a person familiar with the situation. The Trump administration has recently made unusual deals with U.S. companies, including allowing AI chip giant Nvidia to sell its H20 chips to China in exchange for the U.S. government receiving 15% of those sales. The Pentagon is slated to become the largest shareholder in a small mining company to boost output of rare earth magnets. The government's intervention in corporate matters has worried critics who say President Donald Trump's actions create new categories of corporate risk and that a bad bet could mean a hit to taxpayer funds. Much of the funding under the CHIPS Act has not yet been dispersed for companies such as Micron, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, Samsung and Intel. TSMC and Intel declined to comment. Micron, Samsung and the White House did not respond to requests for comment on whether Lutnick is considering more stakes. The two sources told Reuters on Tuesday that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is also involved in the CHIPS Act discussions, but that Lutnick is driving the process. The Commerce Department oversees the $52.7 billion CHIPS Act money. Lutnick has been pushing the equity idea, the sources said, adding that Trump likes the idea. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed earlier that Lutnick was working on a deal with Intel to take a 10% government stake. "The president wants to put America's needs first, both from a national security and economic perspective, and it's a creative idea that has never been done before," she told reporters. Speaking on CNBC, Lutnick said the U.S. wants a return on its "investment". "We'll get equity in return for that ... instead of just giving grants away," he said. Trump has previously said he wanted to kill the CHIPS Act program. Lutnick's comments suggested any stake would be non-voting, meaning it would not enable the U.S. government to tell the company how to run its business. His comments came a day after SoftBank Group agreed to invest $2 billion in Intel, which has struggled to compete after years of management blunders. "The Biden administration literally was giving Intel money for free and giving TSMC money for free, and all these companies just giving the money for free, and Donald Trump turned it into saying, 'Hey, we want equity for the money. If we're going to give you the money, we want a piece of the action for the American taxpayer'," Lutnick said. South Korean presidential advisor Kim Yong-beom said neither the government nor the potentially affected companies have heard about such a plan. He added that foreign companies like Samsung needed "predictability" for their U.S. investments. A Korean chip industry official, meanwhile, said it would be hard for chipmakers to accept U.S. government equity stakes, and some may either decide not to invest or delay investments unless Washington provides incentives like increasing funding. Taking lawmaker questions in Taipei on Wednesday and asked whether the U.S. government could take a stake in TSMC, Taiwan Economy Minister Kuo Jyh-huei said his ministry would consult with the company, which he pointed out was private and not a state-owned enterprise. "We will also discuss with the National Development Council, as it is a shareholder of TSMC. We will thoroughly understand the underlying meaning of the U.S. Commerce Secretary's remarks, but this will require some time for discussion and assessment," Kuo said.

Oracle will reportedly power a giant data center with gas generators
Bloomberg has published a deep dive into operations at Oracle, chronicling the software giant's rise in cloud computing and current push into powering artificial intelligence projects. The publication reported that Oracle has promised to develop tens of billions of dollars in data centers, which have become a hot business. Notably, Oracle landed a deal to back operations at OpenAI, in a partnership that will give the AI company 4.5 gigawatts of computing power. According to Bloomberg, that's enough energy to power "millions of American homes." So far, Oracle has seemed willing to throw money at its AI data center projects, no matter how expensive or irresponsible the needs might be. For instance, a source said the company plans to spend more than $1 billion a year powering a single data center in Texas with gas generators rather than waiting for a utility connection to be built. When completed, this data center is expected to be one of the largest known sites, with computing power of 1.4 gigawatts. In addition to the huge monetary cost, such a project can also have negative human and environmental impact. The Elon Musk-owned xAI is under fire after a supercomputer for its artificial intelligence operations became a primary source of air pollution in Memphis thanks to methane-powered turbines. Other majors, including Google, Microsoft and Meta, have chosen to try nuclear power for their data center projects, which comes with its own potential complications and risks. Purely on the financial side, Oracle's decision to invest so much so quickly meant the company reported its first negative annual cash flow since 1990. Should the current rates of AI investment turn out to be a bubble, it could be very bad news to have many billions of dollars on the line.
